  • This video is for close friends to critique. I played after a long day building a shed outside in the cold and lifting a ton of wood pellets twice so my hands felt like bricks but in this video I'm thinking about the musicality or lack of. Every drum in the kit was made by me.

Thank You. You can find this track and more in the book "Billy Hart Jazz Drumming". Although I would like to send the track I have to respect the copyright and the time the artists put into these works. Their business is tough nowadays and they deserve to make a living. Don't know if it can be found free on line but the price of the book is reasonable.

Thanks Gino, I really appreciate your comment. I often think about something Adam Nussbaum (my hero) said "I never learned anything when someone complimented my playing" but I believe we all need some encouragement and I thank you for that. I do know however that I have nowhere near the capabilities of some of these young drummers. Sure wish I was young again knowing what I know now. I just play because I love it though.

The way that you played this cover is far more helpful for me in my learning of the song. I don't need to be impressed by drumming fireworks or bigger / faster / louder playing, but you capture the essential elements of the tune in a very tasteful manner. Thank you so much

Wow man! This is one of my favorite videos on RUclips right now. Every time I watch it, I'm inspired to go play and practice a little more. You're feel for the groove is great, but I think the fills are better and the way the fills propel the groove of the tune. The drums and cymbals sound great too. Thanks for posting this!

Hey Ron, this came up again and I saw it today so I am commenting for the second time. You 're playing beautifully, your playing is so natural. You and your brothers are the most talented guys. You should leave our hometown and find a place where you can play. You should be playing, most definitely. Very inspiring! Great natural feel and you move around the drums beautifully. Very fluid playing. Written and submitted with total sincerity. Vig

Wow! I'm really glad this came into my recommendations! You've got a great sound and feel all around. I really liked the way you phrased the mambo rhythm on the bell during the theme. If there's anything I could say for feedback it's that when you switch to your second right hand ride during the sax solo it feels like the energy goes down a bit even though the sax player is still burning, so might want to have that in mind, but it's also a subjective thing. Still, great playing! Wish you the best, and keep on drumming! :)
