One thing I’d like to point out is that Patrick stated he changes his type stupidity to mix it up so he chooses to be as stupid he is at any given moment
What makes this really interesting is that he, under normal circumstances, chooses to be stupid the majority of the time. In actuality, however, if what was stated about Patrick in this video is the truth (more specifically, the fact that he chooses to not use his super powered abilities in fear of hurting those he cares most about), that means that he's really far smarter and more intelligent than he typically lets on.
That makes him evil all on its own, his “stupidity” is constantly making everything worse for everyone involved. Remember the episode where SpongeBob tries to save him from drowning and he tears the boat apart so SpongeBob is drowning too? If he did that on purpose he’s clearly not a good dude
You know what, this is surprisingly and probably one of the most coherent theories in Spongebob and I can actually see this as canon. Plus it makes Patrick a much better character haha
Patrick: I think I'm a genetic copy of a supervillain that used to fight Mermaid Man. Spongebob: Patrick, I don't think you were a supervillain, that would have been before you were born. Patrick: What's a supervillain?
Something I’m surprised you didn’t mention, is the weirdly consistent gag that involves Patrick talking to a mirror, and his reflection talking back to him. Heck, most times his reflection is extremely negative and dare I say, “evil.” To also add, Patrick is usually very afraid when these instances happen. Like it’s genuinely one of the weirdest mysteries of the show imo. Other characters very rarely get this same gag (at least to my knowledge), but Patrick has gotten it several times. Really helps the ‘evil’ Patrick and ‘good’ Patrick being two separate parts of him idea.
I remember the episode when he got a nose and he took it way too far, ended up removing the nose. man abuses every power he gets, even the power to smell 😂
I can't explain how much I would love to read comics about Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy fighting an evil past version of Patrick. This theory is amazing. Great video.
I just watched this full video and went to the comments to see what people were saying. I had no idea this vid only had 600 views and there’s like 5 comments!? That’s crazy, amazing vid. This theory kinda goes along with some questions I had about Patrick in the past, so I fully believe it to be possible.
one thing i want to point out is in the dream episode with SpongeBob going into dreams forgot the title, Patrick is on the seahorse ride doing absolutely nothing. Why.... sponge bob tries to convince him to do other stuff but he refuses.
tbh this theory really does make sense. I think it's not just because of how concise the video is it is something I like more than the typical X character is actually evil theories which I usually don't like because they really do reach and therefore make the video longer. It also doesn't make Patrick reprehensible which is a big plus to me since most theories that make the character evil *do* frame the character as beyond redemption. Thanks for this video to be the exception to the rule.
i think it's worth mentioning the orb of confusion also present in Mermaidman and Barnacleboy 3, which is mentioned to permanently leave you confused if you use it for too long. running with this theory, it's likely that the orb of confusion is how Patrick was able to repress his supervillain side. we see him acting like the orb is still on despite it being off at the end of the episode, with SpongeBob being perfectly okay in spite of actually having been touching the orb for longer (seemingly implying that Patrick is just like that, rather than the orb doing anything to him). since his default state is the same as when the orb of confusion is on, it's likely that the orb of confusion would be either purposefully and accidentally used by Patrick for long enough to leave him permanently dumb in this theory.
About two years ago, I bought the first 200 episodes of SpongeBob on disk and watched them over and over just realize how big of a jerk Patrick can be and now I really realize why😢😅
I was always curious after the crying clam episode where SpongeBob threw a peanut and Patrick was a detective and concluded that “The secret villain was me all along! Even I didn’t know!”
I don't know if this was actually intended by the writers, but I do like the idea that Patrick only seems stupid because he's constantly somehow repressing his own memories to keep himself in check. Holding himself back from his true potential to avoid becoming the worst version of himself out of a genuine desire to do good, or at least to live a normal life. This would also explain why what "flavor" of stupid he comes off as can change from episode to episode. Because he's repressing his own memories, he forgets why he's repressing them and only continues to do so out of habit. When he starts to enjoy himself doing something, he stops repressing his memories in the same way for the sake of making the most of whatever activity he's involved with that is bringing him joy until he does something that brings him regret and he finally resets himself back to his "normal" state of repressed memories. If it were true, it would also say something about his friendship with Spongebob. Aside from the general identities of those around him, the fact that Spongebob is his best friend is the only thing he stubbornly clings to as a consistent fact in the forefront of his mind, never to forget. It's incredibly important to him, and could even be the reason why he's repressing his other memories to begin with. This would mean he values his friendship with Spongebob so strongly that he's actively rejecting whatever parts of himself could put that friendship in danger. Perhaps his deepest fear is the idea of Spongebob rejecting him, leaving him all alone? It does seem as though the preservation of this specific friendship is his biggest motivating factor to giving up power when he has it.
I like how you included Nighty Nightmare, because if someone refutes CFTKK because of its ending, then you could point to NN as that game never implied the same thing that CFTKK did as a twist.

Kind of like how ManRay was still affected by the tickle belt even afterwards? And that sometimes Patrick gains his intellect back once and a while. And yeah Patrick is very power hungry, that's for sure. Also, I found it really creepy when Patrick flew off at the end of The Sponge Who Could Fly. It's really unsettling.
