    The Subtractem + CaptainLance + Palsteron interview confirmed that Flask charges will work differently from that.
    It's a system similar to PoE1's, but there's a change: the count of Flask charges granted by a mob is now determined by the mob's "effectiveness".
    E.g. a small easy-to-kill mob has only a small chance to give you 1 flask charge; a big heavy mob provides a guaranteed 2 flask charges. And there will no doubt be stuff in-between and beyond those two examples.

    The point raised about players stubbornly trying to clear a boss that's they are spawning directly in front of at 9:08 is similar to how players reacted to Tree Sentinel in Elden Ring. I think it's fine and players will learn to overcome or adapt. The implied alternative of not having a checkpoint outside the boss arena is worse.

    This was a fantastic video. I think the best part about the feedback, so far, is that the things that are "holding back" POE2 are VERY clear (specifically: flasks and how you refill, uncut gems being for specific weapons and not having any skills for new weapons, lack of drops, some WASD movement jank, etc.)

    • @SuperCatacata
      @SuperCatacata 5 месяцев назад +1

      Agreed, Idk why flasks were made worse for the second game. But I'm glad all the content creators made it apparent that it's not fun to always be out of flask charges in POE2. It will hopefully be changed a bit by launch.
      Encouraging teleporting to town just to get back flasks isn't a good idea at all.

    If WASD is going to be a valid movement control scheme, will the letter keybinds for abilities still be comfortable to use? WASD makes sense in game that controls like WoW or another MMO, but in a PoE style ARPG where constant movement in every direction is really important, moving fingers to E, R, etc. sounds like it would mean death.

    I think the 'I spawned in front of the boss so I should be here' is a side effect of what games have done to us by being so streamlined and easy. It's hard to get back into the idea of going back and farming to return stronger. Tough thing to weave into the game. But could go about it in a few ways.
    tips in loading screen suggesting farming for better gear
    npc nearby who talks about how not every challenge is meant for today
    changing the options on the revive from return to town to 'return with more more' or gather your strength in town.
    As a person who does get a stubborn streak with this sort of thing, having this kind of messaging that it's okay to come back is helpful.

    @09:00 Give me those ultra hard bosses. I can grind a boss a hundred times under-levelled for a challenge. Games just aren't fun without a challenge. The most fun I've had in ARPGs is Lost Ark bosses where you have to coordinate with your team. Now, fair enough, some of the Korean mechanics turn into dance-dance simulators which could probably best be avoided to some degree, but there are endless ideas for epic bosses with advanced and intricate mechanics that make you want to chip away at it for hours and feel fulfilled when you finally beat it. That has disappeared from games in the West. POE 2 can bring it back

    @0:40 Yes. I missed the POE 1 boat because of everything that POE 2 seems to fix about it. I agree with Jonathan's direction of POE 2. I've followed GGG POE 1 since 2013 and have seen tons of footage. The reason I didnt invest in playing it was because of all the hyperactive, brainless playing. I LOVE the complex skill trees, but I can't stand the bland combat and bosses. If POE 2 fixes this, and makes small decisions meaningful, then I will happily invest in POE 2.
    For those complaining about this direction, you will still have POE 1.

    • @JohnSmith42374
      @JohnSmith42374 5 месяцев назад

      In an ARPG (which does not have to be braindead gameplay loops), if you have a low drop rate, you will gradually start to shift your attention to the quality of tweaking your current gear, and appreciating more rare drops. There may be many ARPG players that don't like this, but that's because they've become accustomed to loot rain.
      If this was not so from the start, players would have less of an issue. In exchange for loot rain, we can have gameplay reinforcement that makes players appreciate the total package experience, rather than define the game by loot drops alone, which can become boring very quickly.
      Layered complexity is there to take grinding to the next level and keep player retention.
      Easy in = Easy out. And players that learn to climb through effort will stay if they are rewarded for their investment.

    My big problem with POE2 so far is that they have only shown the early to mid campaign which, to me, is absolutely meaningless. The campaign doesn't matter after your first playthrough and 99% of your time in a season will be spent in the end game. The fact that they refuse to show any fully developed characters at this point (decent gear, leveled to least 80) really scares me. Makes me think the it's going to have drastically different gameplay POE1 and they don't want to show it off to avoid a backlash. I'm almost at 5k hours in POE1 and plan to continue playing but I'm really sick of hearing about the POE2 tutorial.

      Man I agree, not to mention while every streamer is praising the Act 1/2 content they got to play, it's like...why should anyone care? Early acts suck, they clearly STILL suck. To say your build isn't functional would be an understatement, your build hasn't even STARTED in early acts. It's going to feel exactly the same every playthrough as it does now. Every damn video of the PoE2 event made these early zones look miserably slow to slog through. That kind of atmosphere is fun, *once*. This is a game where any dedicated player bashes their head through the endgame for 100-300 hours. Feeling like a slog is the most damning thing it can do.
      Like I get it. Early acts are unbelievably boring and devoid of options, I get it GGG, can there finally be the slightest focus on what a long term player actually wants? Imagine if 90% of PoE1's advertising was killing Hillock and running through the Coast. Riveting.

    Am I the only one that hates the UI and Character/Bags UI? I feel like I've played Diablo 2 enough. It's 2024 and it's time to give PoE a more updated modern feel without destroying the PoE style. One of the things I liked about Diablo 3 was how items were looted into your bags. In PoE2 seeing 2 shields and 3 weapons take up 3/4ths the bags just makes me cringe. Seeing items drop is supposed to be fun and intriguing. And saying "Put a loot filter on" isn't a solution. That's being lazy about solving a problem in the first place. Last Epoch was the perfect middle ground. And seeing Last Epoch from Beta UI/Character/bags to full release UI/Character/bags was night and day. If all PoE2 is going to give us is an updated graphic engine and some new mechanics/bosses/lore then this will be a wasted opportunity.

    Okay but I would argue that PoE gets easier the further into the campaign you go. Act 1 is insane, Act 2 just drags on and then around Act 4 after Malachai it gets quite easy when you have most of your tools. And then PoE 1 stays very easy until later game maps. Or maybe never in SC.

    Gotta say, watching the recent stuff, I'm getting a little worried. Will obviously need to play the game before rendering any real judgment but...
    First is the interview with Jonathan. He seems a very auteur game director/dev. "I'm right and I don't care what you think" attitude. He might not actually be but thats how he came across to me.
    Resetting the whole dungeon ala dark souls? I was OK with the reset the boss but everything is going a bit far.
    The Well in town mechanic? Worst idea ever. It interrupts the flow of gameplay. Its a needless annoyance that provides no true benefit that I can see. Already we've heard that there are builds to get around it and that makes it worse as its restricting what kinds of builds you can use.
    All in all i think they need to step back and reexamine themselves and the game, and start asking "Why are we doing x/y/z?" "Does this improve the gameplay experience?" etc.
    And before anyone comment: yes i can just play PoE 1 if I don't like it. Cept of couse that I'm getting a bit bored with PoE1.

    Sadly you didn't add footage of Act 1 and 2 bosses, 12 h should give enough time to get to them seeing from other people that went to the event

    Just a small take why the teleport to town system exists how it is. You will play more awareful knowing that your ressources of recovery are limited. The bit of friction with having to go back to town motivates you to use your flasks wisely but still giving you the potential to refill them everytime you need. Its certainly a downside for players who like to turn their brain off and just blast through the area. Sanctum players might enjoy this though.

    I hope it will be vastly different then the other arpg's but i have several doubts that it will or stay that way since all streamers i see playing those games want the same thing and that seems to be good systems but mindless gameplay.
    Lets hope it becomes a soulslike game and not a dynasty warriors like game like all the current arpgs .

      If you're looking for a soulslike ARPG, then No Rest For The Wicked seems more up your alley than PoE2.

      @@NekoBatyx That game is already on my wishlist but the comment i made is more about that some ggg devs said that D4 went more of the mmo like route and they are going more of the soulslike route with poe2. they said it around the time that D4 launched.

    I love you have to go back to town to refill - if you can stay in the combat area forever you have one less resource management aspect to juggle as a player. They could skip the “portal to town” thing and just have it take 5 seconds to refill flasks, but good luck building a realistic lore around refilling your flasks yourself. (And no, it is not okay to have your char pis in the flasks to refill, even though it would be yellow like the rejuvenation potions from Diablo 1)
    I surely hope they keep this resource management and high difficulty level - There are more than enough of way-too-easy ARPG’s out there today - We don’t need one more!
    Give us a different and difficult ARPG please where progress is something you have to work hard for so that accomplishment feel great with or without friends!
    Great stuff and great video! 👍

    Dont understand why do this "rares" white mobs and they drop white mob gear? Theres no point make them drop good gear at least seems like they are actively annoy you reminds me a lot of wow devs get back to the city to fill your flasks?

    • @Jabarri74
      @Jabarri74 5 месяцев назад

      No flask charges 10x the hp, who really is gonna bother killing them? So if you find a rare version of it it will have 50x the hp. Why bother, no one will even attempt to kill them early on as it would take multiple minutes. The rares remind me of the Archnemesis rares which everyone kinda hated yet are still in the game.

    All these concerns were there in Demon Souls, Dark Souls, Elden Ring... and they were massive successes.
    I'd say stop making games for casuals. Make good games and casuals will try them out.

    No shot this launches in 2024. if the more deliberate combat is persistent through endgame ill be impressed. i cant stand braindead 2 button spam builds at endgame in some ARPGs. Lost Ark crushes these games in boss and dungeon encounters with clean mechs and combat.

    WASD was always the correct choice for these games and it's embarrassing it took so long for the bigger names to adopt it. Now they need to get rid of the gender locked classes and POE can finally be considered a proper game.

    Going back to town to refill flasks is the most horrid decision ever, what the hell. Just pure tedium. If the rest of the game is anything like this, that's a hard pass.

      It's pretty much confirmed POE2 is just Ruthless but worse, they want it to be a job for streamers, not a game for anyone else.
