    Lol I loved the ending of this. As someone who’s disabled, & is often interacting with different nurses / doctors & receptionists, it’s nice to have some camaraderie & humour, makes the day go by quicker for all involved & takes some of the seriousness of out some situations, definitely helps alleviate a bit of stress ☺️
    They’re all just normal folk like you & I who appreciate some light heartedness along the way.
    I love the gentlemen who has lung cancer, his humour & positivity is inspiring despite his prognosis.
    I do hope the young lady got her anaemia under control. It’s worth remembering you can’t ever overdose on iron as our bodies are clever, they’ll expel any excess - so if a Dr prescribed you iron tablets, just keep taking them even if you do change your diet! x

    • @ceven526
      @ceven526 3 года назад +13

      sadly not true about the iron! overdoing it on iron supplements can actually be really bad for your health but if you start out anaemic, even if you change your diet your body needs time to increase its stores so check with your dr before stopping the tablets

    • @sean1592
      @sean1592 3 года назад +12

      Only water-soluble vitamins (B and C) are expelled by the body when there is an excess.
      Taking high dose iron can build up ferritin stores, but overdosing on even a therapeutic dose can be harmful.

    • @LauraBidingCitizen
      @LauraBidingCitizen 3 года назад +5

      @@sean1592 Hi Sean / Cevan :)
      Thank you for letting me know about the potential to overdose on iron. I’ve asked my own GP this several times & he’s the one that gave me the above information that I left in my comment, I didn’t just pull it out of thin air.. I promise lol.
      I’ve recently had blood work back that showed increased red blood cells, & I was told years ago I was anaemic so I started taking multivitamins + iron. I’m still on them & I asked (for the hundredth time) if it was possible my daily dose could increase my red blood cell count, & he told me the above ^ that my body would expel anything I didn’t use.
      Now I’m concerned it is my multivit + iron! Thanks again, I’ll do some more research on it.

    I understand the girl's worry about gluten free alternatives but she's knocking them before she's even tried them. I'm hugely gluten intolerant and after a few years I'm so used to gluten free pasta now that I hardly notice the difference. There are options out there, it's just about exploring and seeing what alternatives taste good for you.

    • @pansprayers
      @pansprayers 3 года назад +6

      As a former dietitian nutritionist with a full blown wheat allergy, the other issue with GF/WF options is the appalling amounts of sodium and additional salt they add to make the decent ones taste less like cardboard. Even switching to corn/oat flour alternatives is sometimes dodgy because while corn and oats are GF, they are often processed in facilities that handle wheat at the same time. It's a nightmare sometimes trying to find the proper products and maintain a healthy diet.

      Certain food restrictions are harder in certain cultures. In many, bread is more than a food, it is in itself an eating tool, part of every meal. You pick your food with bread pieces instead of fork/spoon. Bread is also proudly made at home, daily, so celiac disease will mean not to be able to share certain elements of one's culture with one's family, an that is hard.

    Both of my parents (long time smokers) both died from lung cancer. By the time they found my dad's it had already spread to his brain. My mom's was in the upper left lung and was aggressive. It pressed against her heart. She was diagnosed and died a month later. Scans just a few months earlier it wasn't even seen. I had two uncles die from lung cancer too. They of course were the generation where smoking was actually recommended. Jeez.

    does anyone know why the patient with lung cancer with suspected infection was given pholcodine (a cough suppressant)? wouldn't that just exacerbate the infection as the mucus isn't being expelled?

    • @lauraspacie5185
      @lauraspacie5185 3 года назад +11

      Hi. The infection isn’t in the mucus itself more it’s a product of the infection. Antibiotics (which the GP gave) would clear the underlying infection. The cough is clearly distressing for the patient, keeping him up at night, and with an already collapsed lung it’s important to balance risk and give cough suppressants to improve cough and prevent further damage.
