We grew up knowing that they create Fong Kong's so it's in us,it's not different to people that likes Mercedes Benz most of them likes Mercedes due to hearing from others that it's a balanced car that can never overturn or rollover due to how it hugs the road. So these Chinese are so well equipped that you even wonder why must you pay a million if not close to a million just to buy a demo model af a German car which you'll have to pay extra if you want some useful options which aren't added in the car. These Chinese are in the same level of comfortability just like most well known Japanese cars which are less equipped than these Chinese. So let's stop comparing them with German cars and place them exactly where they are. In a short space of time these products will be so fine tuned that most people will go Chinese and abandon the absurdly overly priced Germans.

That Andriod Auto Apple Car whatsapp notification can be disabled 😂😂 but i think that big infotainment make everything quiet visible and no need to squint your eyes to see what options you are choosing/clicking.... Great review non the less🎉

I somewhat understand GWM`s pricing and yes the Chinese have marketed themselves as considerably lower than the European and Japanese counterparts BUT if you were to add all the extra bits that come standard in the Tank, it would push the price much higher than its competitors. With that said I would have to drive the Everest Platinum, Land Cruiser and Tank back to back to make a decision. I also think the calibration will certainly be sorted on the 2nd generation.

I don't understand why Chinese are still insistent on using petrol engines for such massive cars. I know it's hybrid but a 2L petrol engine carrying such a heavy load isn't gona end well. Not to mention the fuel consumption. For that price, there are many trusted and tested 7 seaters with efficient diesel engines. Leave the 2.0L engines to Tucsons and Tiguans
i think China and diesels are not the best of friends. yes they do make some diesel engines but they are heavily invested in New Energy Vehicles like Hybrids, Plug In Hybrids and Battery Electric Vehicles... other than that they default to Petrol.
Its plain to see it is inspired by the Nissan Armada and maybe thats not a bad thing, i also realize that the Chinese are playing a chess game towards the Fortuner, the Armada, the VW toureg etc etc albeit living out the big Germans, purposely, the trade off here is that, the competition has been tried and tested, some used cars will always be better than some brand new cars, for a million rand, i would happily get a used V-cross, a used legend 50 and they will outlive this car and still retain their value than this car, the car is okay, they just needed to price it right, somewhere along the Haval H6 pricing which for me the H6 looks nicer, beautiful review once again Reba, you’re doing due diligence!
More land cruiser 300 than Armada. Which is the logical car to clone considering how popular it is as opposed to the Armada which is nowhere near as popular as the Toyota.
This car would be a great seller if it had the diesel engine. Probably with more power to match the Prado or the V6 diesel available overseas. But the scepticalness around the HEV is what is holding it back. I would consider it but I would rather opt and buy the P500 Super Luxury 2.4 diesel, I get a majority of the features and safety tech, similar looks in front. Virtually similar in side. But maybe if you get a cheaper price closer to R1mil it would be worth considering

I think the Tank 300 is such a great car to own. Since the Chinese are all about pushing sales, the car should either on the million mark or less. Offer the bells and whistle of the car’s technology at a less price. They definitely need to do something about the 65” tv on the dash 🥴
You buy an LC 300 which has been notorious for "under-perfoming" more especially when towing. Totota will advise you to tune the engine. I may be biased, but we ought to go easy on these Chinese manufacturers. Their product offerings have incredibly improved, and not withstanding their thirsty engines, the rest of the stuff seems to be coming along quite well. At the very end, lets bear in mind that anything and everything breaks. Nothing is bullet proof
The rear mounted spare wheel works for the tank 300. But takes away from the premium-ness of the tank 500. It's a bit too add on after thought looking in my opinion. But proper car.
Kia Sorento doesn't have the off-road credentials. It's got a low ground clearance. And the face-lift that's coming might make it the same price as the Tank 500 top spec. Granted both a diesel engine besides the Tank 500 , that will be sway the decision to be both ways. Kia Sorento to me it's in the same category as the Mazda CX60. It's a city slicker SUV with gravel road capability, if you want something more capable rather the Everest, Prado and Tank 500 to be on the shortlist. The defender is way more expensive so as the LC 300. The German suvs are just premium crossovers. The Lexus LX is worth a look but expensive. The Patrol is just expensive to run. Makes the Tank 500 look like a great deal. So it actually depends on how capable you want your vehicle to be. So in the scheme of the bigger SUVs, it's definitely worth a look and besides fuel consumption but if you can afford such vehicles, fuel shouldn't too much of a concern.

It drives OK, even though it's got some niggles. You also tell us that it's competition starts at R1.35 Million. So at R1.2 Million, the price is great, compared to the competition. Even the niggles are well priced in kahle kahle. So what are you complaining about exactly? I'm not in that tax bracket. But I can see the value for the people who are. What is the problem here Maseve?

It's not the affordable option anymore. GWM should have directly targeted Toyota Fortuner owners with pricing and capability. I'm not sure of it's offroad capabilities and maybe we'll get to know that soon. The other thing I don't understand about Chinese manufacturers is the small engine capacities! The klein baas and groot baas in the farms will not be too impressed with a 2.0L when they can boast about a 3.0L/4.0L to their mates for a similar price. I share your sentiments abouts the looks though...........I was actually in George when it was launched and first thought it was a RAM "truck".

Its a hybrid. Hybrids are always the expensive trims. Future engines will be cheaper
