    A drip Pan is required if it can leak and do structural damage. This actual house or building foundation must be higher.

      Thank you @donaldblank8873 this unit was on the ground floor of a slab-constructed building. You are correct that a drip pan is needed when the unit can leak into structural areas. That would be something to look for during an inspection.

    The thermal expansion tank cannot be supported by plumbing.
