You know a lot of people say that the old MH games were harder, so me being a masochist I went and played all the psp games and 3rd I can say with certainty that they were extremely passive, aggressive playstyles were not that good or rewarding, and that's mainly because of the tanky controls you have, it's far more of a grind fest I'll give you that but patience is not something that I would consider a difficulty, it just makes things drag out too long, the arguments I usually see about old MH being harder than MHW -IB are these: * Potions - move while drinking a 7 seconds animation or drink and flex a 4.6 seconds animation, I by far prefer the old style, MHW has really active enemies that stop you from drinking or even roar or cause tremors and stop you from drinking, easier on my books you just have to not be an idiot and do it while the monster is attacking you (Kinda like estus in DS) {Also potions here are equivalent to super potions in MHW} Weapons not having more moves: I fully agree with this, not only do they lack attack options but they're also very repetitive, I despise GS and Hammer in freedom cause of that, but again dragging things out is not necessary difficulty is just the lack of patience that makes you commit errors. Avatars being heavier and sluggish: another thing that drags out the game, but is not like the monsters are super aggressive fuckers like they are in MH, they actually stay still for a lot of time in comparison of course. Finally shorcuts, UI, quick craft: yeah but no? In old MH you had to prepare before the fight while in MHW you can (At least in low and most of high rank) do it on the go with things you find in the map, also yeah navigating through a clunky menu (Hold L + circle or square to browse the menu) was a pain but you had much more time to pay attention to it than in MHW. Personally I find MHW far more difficult than old MH. New is constant action old is a lot of passiveness.
Mhp3 is a bad game to pick up to make this analysis that game is known to be criminally easy. If you wanted to compare difficulty MHFU is a better game to make these conclusions

Was Barioth actually fun to face back then? Cause it actually looks relaxing compared to the screaming retard we got now. Like you could actually play casually and not hate the game.

Perfect. It has a nice speed and it doesn't attack every fucking second, which gives you a chance to attack it. I hated fighting this thing in iceborne. It barely had anything openings, it threw 1000 attacks and then had a 1 second opening before doing 1000 more attacks at the speed of light.

Barioth is why I always used DB in 3U, on top of being really fast weapons in general. But I could zoom around it and bust those wingspikes to slow it down considerably, then go right for the tusks or tail. In Iceborne it's certainly a challenge and I need to hunt more because I don't even remember what the fight is like besides that body slam it does that hurts like a bitch.
I know it’s a small detail when there are other things to miss about old Barioth, but I really miss his sound design. His roar sounded awesome and super menacing, and all of his screams added lots of, I guess “character” to the monster. Also please give me giginox in whatever MH game is next 🙏🙏
I also missed how your health and stamina bar reached the end of the screen to make it look like you're beefed. Instead in MWH we only get a quarter of the screen :(
Well, it's a new continent so bringing back the old maps is impossible. Still, they made a small tribute to it by playing a remixed version of the Tundra theme during Barioth's intro cutscene.
@HorizonCrosser 128 well I think it's the feeling because of how zone are like different types of arenas so the maps feel like they have different types of variety be it different environment hazards and mechanics or sizes. Certain monsters would also have different mechanics based on the map you fight them in aswell
I prefer this version of Barioth. The new one is way too direct, the whole point of Barioth is he tries to attack you from various angles which can throw you off, but in MH:W he just constant charges and jumps on you, and there was no reason to give him a ground slam as well, and the hitboxes are awful and is way oversized especially considering how tiny the iceborne map's arenas can be.
Nice vid! Back in the day, me and my cousin play mh 3rd in our psp’s and ending up sleeping at the middle of the night. I kinda miss those days and its really hard not like Mh world, new players we’re baby sitted.
Thus, the flame wars start once more on the difficulty comparison of Iceborne and the older games that could melt the Tundra Region along with the Hoarfrost Reach itself
I didn't even know old mh allowed for such smooth gameplay, I was under the impression it was all "jank" .I guess it's just easier to get smooth looking plays in world than in the older games...?
That was Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. Freedom Unite wasn't even jank, but it has aged meh. Though Portable Third was fucking amazing, super depressing to know it never made it to the west.
When people refer to jank is not really the gameplay is jank more to the controls and how your character moves, if you started with world probably recommend you hunt down generations ultimate for ease of access or if u do have a 3ds try out 4 ultimate

You know a lot of people say that the old MH games were harder, so me being a masochist I went and played all the psp games and 3rd I can say with certainty that they were extremely passive, aggressive playstyles were not that good or rewarding, and that's mainly because of the tanky controls you have, it's far more of a grind fest I'll give you that but patience is not something that I would consider a difficulty, it just makes things drag out too long, the arguments I usually see about old MH being harder than MHW -IB are these:
* Potions - move while drinking a 7 seconds animation or drink and flex a 4.6 seconds animation, I by far prefer the old style, MHW has really active enemies that stop you from drinking or even roar or cause tremors and stop you from drinking, easier on my books you just have to not be an idiot and do it while the monster is attacking you (Kinda like estus in DS) {Also potions here are equivalent to super potions in MHW}
Weapons not having more moves: I fully agree with this, not only do they lack attack options but they're also very repetitive, I despise GS and Hammer in freedom cause of that, but again dragging things out is not necessary difficulty is just the lack of patience that makes you commit errors.

Mhw is in the new world, not old world
Well, it's a new continent so bringing back the old maps is impossible.
Still, they made a small tribute to it by playing a remixed version of the Tundra theme during Barioth's intro cutscene.
It's the New World, not the Old World. What, are they supposed to saw it off the Old World and throw it into the sea in the New World?
Yeah, bought Iceborne yesterday, was thinking "yeah I could beat him on PSP, this should be fine" then proceeded to get my ass handed to me
