This video came at the perfect time… I did well for two months and then suddenly it was my birthday. My birthday weekend turned into a birthday two weeks of eating like my old self…. so basically eating whatever I wanted. It’s been very hard to get back into it, but I’m holding on.

Hey Carla, because of your videos I've already lost 13 kg since August. You've said some key phrases like: "there is not always motivation just consistency" and "there will be a time you don't have to loose weight any more".
I really like your videos and I'm more than grateful 🙏
    THANK YOU! ❤

I have only been able to successfully loose weight once in my life when I was 19 years old and I maintained until age 21. I’m now 27, turning 28 in November… I’ve two kids now, went through almost loosing my mom and sister in an accident and the death of my dad last year. 6 almost 7 years of gaining 90 pounds. Wow I’ve never admitted that. 90 pounds 😭. My wonderful body has brought forth my boys and I’m so thankful for that but I’m tired of being morbidly obese. I don’t want to self sabotage myself again. I want to be fit to be able to enjoy playing with my boys and being on this earth with them as long as I can. My sweet husband has never made me feel bad and always tells me I’m beautiful but I want to “actually” look good for him. Most importantly I want to be healthy and fit for me!!! 🙏

I found myself during this this week, I had went to work and was getting compliments on the weight-loss and then I came home and ate after 8pm. This is something I hadn’t been during . I knew what I was doing was not helping me. I am doing intermittent fasting and have been doing it since February or March. I feel like I have done this before to myself but I was usually stressed out at that time but I don’t understand why I got compliments and then I am sabotaging myself isn’t anybody else been through this all doing this to themselves?

The attention was still stressful, maybe. I also feel like getting attention make a me want to celebrate... Celebratory foods are usually not so supportive of our goals and eating those foods at a different time of day seems even more festive ... It's so crazy. I'm in there with you 🙄😊

I’ve had the same experience during my journey. It seems like the compliment would be motivating but instead it makes me uncomfortable. I’m realizing that I gained weight in the first place to stop getting attention and I need to stop myself from reacting negatively. My first step is recognizing that it’s happening.

Yes, I go to the doctor and get praise for good blood pressure or weight loss etc and as soon as I leave I think “ I deserve a reward/treat and go right to Popeyes to eat something that raises my blood pressure and puts on weight. You are not alone.

It is interesting. It's like the attention or compliment made me aware of myself as existing through someone else's eyes... and that makes me feel foreign and then I eat to feel "familiar". Hahaha what is that!

This came up at a good time for me, as I have been noticing that I'm sabotaging myself lately. I lost 110 lbs and have been maintaining that for a bit over a year. While I am proud of this accomplishment, I do not want to be simply maintaining, I have 60 more lbs to lose to reach my goal of a normal BMI. I get a lot of feedback from friends telling me I look great, which I am not totally comfortable with because I do not feel it is objectively true, only true in a relative sense compared to how I used to look. These type of well meaning comments actually trigger my frustration and dissatisfaction. My goal has been health and longevity more than appearance, and I have improved my health very much, but I still have quite a bit of belly fat so I am concerned about that being bad for my organs. Yet I keep bouncing around in a 10 lb range just above 200 lbs, losing weight for a few consecutive days and then overeating in such a way as to negate my progress. I actually broke through that glass floor of 200 lbs last week and had thought I had finally broken the plateau, but then I blew it again. I think a major trigger for me is being uncomfortable with male attention/flirtation because it has been so unfamiliar to me for so long when I was over 300 lbs, and because I am still not comfortable with my body image so I don't really know what to do with such attention, not sure if I am ready for intimacy. I think my fear of intimacy and distrust of men based on some bad experiences in my past are definitely contributing to holding me back, and I am trying to get over that and keep working on myself for me. Thanks for your videos, for the inspiration and the aid in introspection.

There are many You Tubers who show unattainable weight loss perfection and then talk about how magically their lives have changed cause of weight loss. But what makes you different is that YOU COMPLETELY CHANGED AND IMPROVED YOUR LIFE, BECAUSE YOU TOOK THE PROPER ACTION AND PUT IN THE PROPER EFFORT. You used every tool in the tool box. It doesn’t happen magically just because you lose weight. You are a breath of fresh air in the weight loss community on social media. And your channel has profoundly helped in improving my mindset to lose weight and stick to it.
    Thank you for your efforts.

Hello beautiful! I have definitely found myself on that hamster wheel since 2010 when I initially started my journey of weight loss. I went through a different program. We’re on three different occasions I lost over 100 pounds and gained it all back due to self sabotage, I really appreciate the video today. Much needed. I rewound it a couple of times and what stood out to me was the section between 11 minutes through 14.50 minutes. I definitely will need to think through this and journal through this and I’m very grateful that you were able to share very specifically how to think about it in order to have a victory! Your words are spot on as they often are! For me I think my inability to lose the whole weight (70kg) was linked to the fact that I had put on that weight as a child and a teenager, I unconciously I didn't want to let go of something I had acquired at a young age because it would be proof that so much time had gone by. From 18 to this year (24) I maintained my weight without gaining more but without losing either. I think I held onto that weight like a child would hold onto his teddy bear, anyway that's how I interpret it. It's a very strange situation to be in. All these years I didn"t understand why I couldn't lose weight even though I had wanted to with all my heart for over a decade. I think I finally understood why and only became a fully grown adult this year.

Thank you for this ~ I have found this to be exactly how change effects me too ( whether with weight loss, jobs etc. ) Many of us may also have past traumas that come to the surface when stressed by change, or other triggers. I know that I have hidden from “attention” for several years now- after a horrible divorce ~ It’s scary to let yourself be seen & admired again by men…. Once I started noticing results and other people saw results, I think I just decided that I would “settle” for that and I would compromise on my goals and just start eating whatever I wanted again. And then I would end up back where I started!

🤗🖤 ⭐️🔄 🦧Thank you for this! I just realized as you were talking that my recent self sabotage episode came from my discomfort with the thought of someone not being pleased with me because I am losing weight and God forbid, becoming comfortable and just maybe happy in my own skin.
I realized the discomfort from the attention was why I’ve self sabotaged in the past because of what Ger talked about in my first round of BodySlims. Also, because you talked about it further in Carla’s Corner and your other videos. That was huge for me and this is as well. The “who does she think she is” mindset apparently bothers me way more than I ever wanted to admit. This is great! Now I can get rid of letting this way of thinking impact my life. This is such a huge monkey 🦧off my back! I will have to keep tabs on this tendency. Wow! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! More of these would be great! ☺️

Thank you for such an insightful video Carla. I see myself in that vicious cycle and sitting in that discomfort rather than giving in to old habit patterns is sage advice. I'm glad to know I am not the only one who finds compliments on weight loss triggering. Along with triggering self sabotage the compliments also trigger my bitchy inner critic. I love your suggestion of just “sitting with it” - because you’re right, once you get into the thing you do when you self-sabotage (snacks after dark are my vice) - you get into a sort of an autopilot mode. I feel like all this boils down to making how you take care of yourself, what you prioritize to take care of your health needs to become part of your core belief system. Somethings we do or think or feel regardless of what the crowd around us is thinking, feeling, doing. That's integrity. So making the way we take care of ourselves a matter of integrity. And then not swerving from that belief system around health even when people around us encourage something different or the voice inside gets scared. But stand up for ourselves , at least internally.
Maybe this isn't at all right but this video for my wheels turning in q good way. I needed this support today

Carla, this was so so helpful, thank you! Could you please do another video around self sabotage about the following question: how do you stop yourself from self sabotaging when the discomfort you feel (and that makes you overeat) is something that is recurring and not resolved? For example, let’s say you have made the effort to exercise and eat right but you constantly have financial worries that make you want to self soothe through food? You can sit with the discomfort but it constantly reoccurs because there are stressors in your life which make you want to reach for food. Your life is in a perpetual state of anxiety so even though you try to make positive healthy changes, stress makes you digress.

Great video Carla! Thank you! I have been making big changes in what I eat and was surprised that I stayed away from ice cream for about three weeks! I think because I am eating food that is better for me, I am not craving ice cream all the time! Yay!!!

We also sabotage ourselves in our relationships ~ for many of the same reasons as with sabotaging ourselves during weight loss : If you grew up in a dysfunctional/toxic family, being drawn to toxic/unhealthy romantic relationships often happens because they are familiar to us: they mimic the unhealthy family life we came to know when growing up. Thank you, Carla, for presenting this important subject ~

🔁 Great video! I'm 10 months into a weight loss journey, down 54 pounds. I've been spinning on the self sabotage cycle for the last couple of months. I still have a long way to go. This is so helpful and insightful. Your journey and your growth is very inspiring!
