I like the Edc23 for the size
Yeah, if you don't care for the extra brightness or runtimes, the 23 is the way to go.
It's still plenty bright anyway
I really wanted the EDC29. I need a good flashlight to turn on at night. No police officer will even investigate when someone says "He pointed a flashlight at me" - but if I pull out my gun and point it at someone, I'm going to prison, despite a flashlight likely being better at deescalating things anyway.
A tail switch and easy, quick access to both the full brightness and the strobe are important. It's nice if the light has some lower settings for using as a work light, too. But blinding someone at night, especially with an absurd amount of light, like 6500 lumens? That sounds like a great idea.
It looks like the EDC23's 3500 lumens is about as bright, minus some throw. That's good to see.
I am just so disappointed that these are IPX4. They are NOT waterproof, at all. They will let water in. Falling in a river will kill the light if I take it outdoors, but worse, sweating can kill the thing too! I do physical activity all the time for my job!
It is also pretty disappointing to see how little time these last on full brightness. I would happily cope if the light was waterproof.
Some caveats for sure. The biggest one for me is the short turbo runtime. But it'd burn itself out. Perhaps in the next generation, Nitecore will address this. Someone suggested a little internal fan, maybe larger heatsink. End of the day, it's still impressive as it actually puts out 8500 lumens according to some other reviewers with lumen tubes.
Which of the two has user replaceable blades? I just had to ask, since my new Panasonic wet/dry battery operated shaver doesn't.
Oh, crikey, my apologies mate, I confused this review with that of a shaver! 😵💫
Come to think of it, my shaver doesn't come with a flashlight either! 🤔
Hahaha! You always crack me up. I remember seeing videos of those 2-in-1 shaver/flashlights on eBay. Was either that or the shaver paired with some thing else like a mixer 😂
@@DarrenYeoYT What? Nah, no bloody way I'd buy those multi-purpose torches that double as a shaver.
I get awfully dyslexic when it comes to dual role appliances, and am apt to turn the shaver on when I want to illuminate something and shine on my chin when it's time to shave! 😐
Wow, I hadn't realized how much bigger the 29 was. Yikes!
Yep. It'll fit in your jeans pocket OK though.
the edc 23 has the better led's at 1200 lumens with the uhi 25 led's are much brighter than the uhi 20s that are in the edc 29
I just got the 23 but I have two big issues with it. The two stage button is too easy to overshoot turbo into strobe. You dou demonstrate the 29 not having this issue and being programmable instead. The second issue is that I can "fat finger" both buttons at once. I'll accidentally half press the button sticking out while trying to press the flush button and get nothing. Does the 29 share this flaw? If not, I'm ordering a 29.
I just tried this on the 29 and it's the same - if you press the taller button while pressing the lower button, nothing happens. Light does not turn on.
@DarrenYeoYT That sucks. But thank you very much for testing it. No information on that specific situation anywhere I could find. Your awesome!
Nice review, I’m still thinking about what one to get - I have the Nitecore TM-12K with 12,000 Lumens , do I need another torch?
I don't think we need any of these things lol. But would it make you happy is the question ahah!
I mainly carry the EDC29 now. Nothing else like it and though I worry about that quick step down from turbo, still enough if I get into a messy situation.
Thanks for ur reply, I’ll probably get the 29 for the extra power , I’m a fan of Nitecore ,and the new slim design of these torches 🔦 and the new UHi LED
Wow , that has to be the shortest turbo mode ever... Im embarrassed just watching...
It's a few seconds, enought it quickly spot something or someone. But due to the small heatsink, it won't have anywhere near the performance of a larger tube light.
>8000 lumens (according to 1lumen) produce a lot of heat, that has to go somewhere
Great comparison. Hard pass on both
Cheers, it is what it is
Same. Built-in battery? Why?
I owned EDC29 and it was mind blowingly good for what it is, I love the strobe ready luminshield which is perfect in self defense situations, it is insanely bright for its size.
