the german public TV channels are funnily enough paid through an extra fee paid by every german citizen. much like the BBC in UK.
the state of course tries to influence it. sadly, in austria, the ORF, although with a similar construction, is much more politically influenced. lead to the cancellation of some TV-shows that were not well liked by politicians.
and heute show, die anstalt and magazin royal have earned the right of critizising other countries, they massively critizise their own country too.

ARD, ZDF and the other media channels of the Öffentlich-Rechtlicher-Rundfunk are not part of the state. It was founded to inform every citizen of the country without the influence of the government. Unfortunetely most higher positions in the ÖRR nowadays are staffed with relatives of many politicians and many of them are suspected of corruption. The system is a good idea, but the greed of humans is just too big. :(

It’s no state TV, it’s Public broadcasting! That’s a big difference. State TV wouldn’t allowed things like this because the government would be in charge. The Second German Television (ZDF) is like the BBC. The public media is independent from the German State. The so called ‘broadcasting state contract’ guarantees their independence. It is financed by a fee every household in Germany has to pay. The broadcast companies are collecting it by themselves so it’s not a tax!

Yes, Die Anstalt already caused some trouble to a lot of people, but thats no problem. They are part of Public Broadcasting, so they do not rely on advertisement for finances. And as long as they do not lie and present in a satirical way, they are also protected by laws of "Kunstfreiheit" (Freedom of Arts), which is really a thing here in Germany as it is the opposite of the way the Third Reich did it with "Entartete Kunst". As long as it is "Art" in some way, you can do almost everything here in Germany. For each show Die Anstalt publishes a list of sources they relied on for the show. Absolutly impossible to sue them for anything with success - that is true freedom of speech.

If Die Anstalt comes across as anti-American, i think that's because the general reporting was very pro-American or stereotypically: American good, Russian bad. The thing about the performances of The Anstalt is that they do not reach a big enough audience. Their political satire is genius and nuanced and so often they make the point that much of the opinions in the public space are either for or against something, while in reality most situations are too complex for catchy sound bites or headlines.
So they do confront big papers like Bild and Spiegel a lot, but their sensible and accurate critique is often too late, since prominent papers here are already hooked on the next scandal or event

Back then for example when it was not clear who shot the plane. I was too early to conclusively state who did it, as indicated by the Dutch team investigating the incident, which they allude to.
So what is their critique about? It’s not about if it happened or who did it, but about the fact that a big part of the press ran with the narrative anyway. So it’s way more a jab to the German press than anything else. By saying well the German press was right in the end though IMO you’d open up a can of worms that enables the press to report whatever they want anyway instead of at least wait for the evidence or the investigation to finish.

Quick guys, he dug up the realy controversial one.
Edit: And yes, they got into trouble with German several times, especially for this episode. In a sketch before this one, they had visualized the ties of the chief-editor of "Zeit", one of the large German newspapers to the military-industrial-complex. While beeing correct on their huge Conspiracy board one link was misplaced by accident and said editor sued them for spreading "misinformation" which was hilarious because the only line of argument, he could legally use was: "They said, I'm in bed with five non-government lobby-groups, but in reality I'm only in bed with four." They won that case, as they won all of the others afaik. On their homepage, they post large PDFs with all of their sources, to be safe, that they are not misrepresenting anything.
And also maybe important to mention: While they are pretty hard on Nato and the West, they are far from pro-Russia. They aimed for Putin too several times, epsecially during the current invasion.
Edit 2: Oh and the "controversial road toll" turned out to be the biggest infrastructure desaster in the last decade. It was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court (because it fucking was and everybody could see it from the beginning" but the ministry had already cloed deals with several companies to enforce it, which they had to terminate and pay findings woth of 243 Million Euros. There is currently an investigation going on and the government is looking for a way to sue Adreas Scheuer, the minister who initiated it. Oh yeah and the best thing: His fuckup made the guy so well known, that he is now a reoccuring character in "die Anstalt" and a public favourite. In a lot of episodes, he has a discussion with Sir Isaac Newton, where Newton is the theoretically most rational person to exist and Scheuer the most irrational person.

The nice thing, satire is protected by law :D. There were a couple of law suits in the past, but more or less they went nowhere. But one has to say, journalistic quality is rare in Germany. Now only the story counts and how many people you get to buy it. And you see what happens, if another media outlet is trying to shoot down the show, they are ridculed. "Die Anstalt" is probably the best satire shows on german TV. It exists already since eons. Generally there is not much they won't touch.

The middle class send their kids to public schools, where education is getting more downhill every year.
The upper class send their kids to high schools and universities.
The problem is that low and middle class don't understand the systematic behind the problems.

I started doing fact-checking myself a few years ago, a large fraction of it was on the war in Ukraine. I took original battle footage and videos of engagements and aftermath. Also a lot of old news articles and original sources from 2010-2014.
Nearly everything reported by our media after Russia intervened after the hostilities and bombardment on the 'separatists' by the west ukrainian stakeholders was false or warped thruths. The Intervention was actually triggered when a power plant supplying east Ukraine was 'incapacitated by bombardment', cutting off communications, power supply and the like for the eastern resistance.
One such truth was a false flag cruise missile attack on a high rise building in southwest of Kyiv (videos show the missile arrived coming from the southwest, despite western claims of it having been fired by russian positions) - no casualties... less risk of whisteblowers among the ones conducting the false flag op.
Or when one looks at the videos from Zaporizhzhia NPP in march 2022, one can clearly see the 'defenders' took firing positions on roofs and directly in front of the nuclear reactor core buildings and were firing heavy anti weaponry at the Russians, which were merely in front of main gate outside the premises simply trying to secure the entrance.
Our western media reported it completely differently, depicting the Russians of risking a global nuclear catastrophe by 'attacking' the NPP itself.
These are just a few examples. The way it was depicted gave even me the feeling the russians were carpet-boming whole towns.
The western media is mainly held and controlled by a few rich families and stakeholders along with their network of contacts.
As a remark on the side: One does not need 'many' extremist proxis to 'cleanse' a political or ideological landscape. Hitler did it with just a fraction of what the original military had, just sending his 'state security' to eliminate the key figures and dissolve parliament.

@Mert Thanks for your video. I have to say I wasn't sure if I should watch that video or not as my information about Ukraine and Russia are FRIENDS who actually LIVE there. I stopped reading German media about Russia and Ukraine as it was full of bs which wrote completely different than what I was hearing from friends and what I heard and saw when I WAS in Ukraine (20+ times) and Russia (4 times). And what is happening now is something I saw coming at least in 2011 when I heard the words - "We dont want to be loved, we want to be feared" (Moscow 2011) and of course when I read the results of 2014 crimean election one day before the election. Or I heard of what happend in Odesa from a friend in Odesa (actually armed Russians with some pro Russians who attacked Ukrainians. Ukrainians fighting back, Russians running into that house, preparing and throwing molotov cocktails to throw at Ukrainians. Unfortunately for the Russians they set their own house on fire when preparing the molotov cocktails ...)
While on the one side "Die Anstalt" is right that good journalism is something else, they did not realize how much Russia manipulated the world since 2014 and them being absolutely naiv towards Russia only talking bad about what Germany wrote. Never ever was something shown what Russian state media said to their people each day. Why? They would have noticed that something is odd!
Comment sections of newspaper were flooded with comments made in St. Petersburg and had to be shut down.
A meeting of fascistic (German NPD) and far right European parties (French LePen, Dutch Crazy-Hair-Dude) held there too in 2014 or 2015. Wagner being the "private army" (that was actually paid by Kremlin (official)). Wagner made from russian people and with russian people with NS tattoos to hunt fasicsts in Ukraine...
While the fascist party in Russia (Shirinovsky) got 5% last election, Ukrainian far right parties together got 2% (so yes indeed there are some fascistic Ukrainians too, but much less than in Russia). In Germany the far right party Alternative für Deutschland (sponsored by Russia) gets 15+%. So do we need to get liberated because of fascists that are sponsored by Kremlin? If "Die Anstalt" says that it is bad that we are also supporting Ukrainian fascists they don't realize that Russia is sponsoring fascists in Europe and all over the world. If the fascist is pro Putin it is a good fascists. If he is against Putin, he is a bad fascists.
Also - Who do you think will be the first to start to defend your country, if you get attacked? Will it be the communists?
Ukraine had no army ready and was happy for anybody defending. The Azov group also changed during the years (I talked to a refugee here from Mariupol. Her husband was in Azov, no fascist, no tattoos, just defending his country against invaders).
Sorry Mert, there is so much going on in my head, so much to write and Im rewriting the text for 5th time. But I hope at least something was understandable.
All in all that episode was one of their best (yes there is propaganda here too) and their worst (not questioning Russian propaganda).

About the prohibited Episode: there was a defamation lawsuite against "Die Anstalt". It was the episode of 29. April 2014, where they unveiled the connection of some high ranking journalists to some interestgroups, challenging their ability to report unbiased. In the first lawsuit in Hamburg was a ruling, where the ZDF was prohibited to air this episode again or make it available on their mediathek. The lawsuite went to the next higher court and there hey basically one. The interesting thing in this case was the argument of the two journalists, whom claimed that their ability to do their jobs unbiased got ruined by false claims of this satire. On the other side was freedom of speech and strong protection of that good for the two comedians. The BGH ruled, at the end, that it is allowed in satire to show reality and even if some connections have not been depickted correctly, the two journalists cannot argue, that they are connected to some think tank outlets and thereby the satire delivered the right message. It has not to be hold against the account to be 100% correct. That aside, the Team of the anstalat (basicaly most of german satire) is very throroughly researched.

Thank you for commenting on the Anstalt. These comedians and others are my source for political information. I am German.

Nicht gut, denn das was Die Anstalt damals gebracht hat, war pure russische Propaganda, für die sie sich heute schämen. ruclips.net/video/m2c_zX4FPI8/видео.html

The problem is that people in Germany prefer to watch trash TV like Jungle Camp, and such pearls as Die Anstalt unfortunately have far too few viewers.

About the injunction mentioned in the video:
Yes, it's true. The 'Zeit' took legal measures to prevent 'Die Anstalt' from airing some very harsh truths about some of their higher ups and their not so clean and not so impartial and not so objective involvement in certain ambiguous organizations, etc.
'Die Anstalt' and the 'ZDF' went to court over this and they won their case and they were allowed to air the episode in question and offer it through their website as catch-up TV. It's revealed in a later episode (around christmas, I think, as the winning statement was presented as a gift if my memory serves me right).
This show has taught me so much about politics, economics and all the corrupt and/or hateful things happening in the shadows of my own country and worldwide. They also did a show focussing on the Football World Championship 2014 in Brazil, revealing the corruption of the FIFA and their most prominent/powerful/questionable figures as well as the intolerable conditions the sponsors (Adidas, Nike, etc) have their employees work under while barely paying a livable wage.
It certainly broadened my horizon as I would have never even thought of worrying about certain topics.

'Die Anstalt' is the best that German TV offers. So eye-opening, so much on point...in every episode.

This exact episode was extremely bad. We know now who shot down the plane in Ukraine, and we also know the whole video how the separatist found the plane, but we don't know who caused the fire in odessa....

you said in your video people nowadays have better tools to fight propaganda (social media), but to be honest i think propaganda nowadays is an even bigger problem than before.. people seem to have a general distrust of mainstream media, but at the same time they pick social media personalities, whom they choose to believe, and then they believe them without questioning and again people start to consume information only from the same sources and often from the same political/ideological bubble promoted by social media algorithms based on what the person has watched before... and after "picking a side" all this stuff is not questioned anymore but blindly agreed to
so the propaganda bubbles people end up in nowadays are even stronger than back then, because social media actively feeds people the same stuff they have watched before...i think that's also the reason why, especially online, opinions and believes seem to get more extreme day by day.... it feels like moderate opinions disappear and get replaced by extremes...
maybe social media paints a wrong picture when it comes to this and we just don't hear moderate voices enough - they are probably not polarizing enough which most likely equals less views and less outrage and hence other outlets don't use them to spin their own narrative around moderate content.. but if that's the case then this is already dangerous in itself, because people might start to believe these extreme opinions are normalcy and get pulled into them more easily

I think a big part in the splitting of groups is a distrust of opinion. Groups are forming based around a specific feeling and then reinforced with supporting facts. Every fact not in tune with the underlying feeling is "fake" and everybody with an opinion slightly positive about learning/understanding/supporting an other group is stupid/wrong/extreme regardless of their general identity.
