My dad went to this concert, while I was just a baby... He showed me Rush, and they changed my life!! Unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to see them live, but someday I want to play guitar like Alex! Neil will be forever missed
This is one of their most energetic songs, imo. I'm way older than you are obviously, but I also missed the chance to see them live, cause I discovered them too late by a recommendation. But lately I discovered another band of very young members, which I liked immediately very much and hopefully will have the chance to see here in Germany. But they are located much closer to you, cause they are from Mexico, so I you like them, you may have the chance to see them in near future. I recommend for a try their song Evolve from their latest album: ruclips.net/video/-8pOEmvssQo/видео.html. This is from a gig in Mexico City, where they opened for the Foo Fighters. And for you being not too astonished, they are three sisters of 22, 20 and 17 years. Hope you like it.
All of the album "Vapor Trails" is the most intense drumming recorded in a studio, and Peart was making a statement to himself that he was recovering from his double tragedy, and returning to his status as the greatest drummer alive.
Rush in Rio was done with no soundcheck, no pre show preparation at all outside of a solo backstage warmup for each of the guys. They were literally walking on the stage as the stage was being put together. Despite all of that, they made a magic live album that will be remembered for generations to come. That's Rush.
Agreed. It's not the best sounding concert DVD that I have ever heard. It's not even the best sounding Rush concert DVD that I have ever heard, but it's the best DVD representation of the band live. When anyone wants to get into Rush, I always say: "Start with RUSH IN RIO".
When this first came out, I weighed nearly 300 pounds, had type 2 diabetes, and was numbed out on half a dozen different psych meds. And had not paid attention to Rush since "A Farewell to Kings." Then I read somewhere, Rush had just put out their first album in several years. So bought a copy. Only to be blown away by how awesome they still were. Though I noticed what seemed to be a Zen influence in the lyrics. Which I liked. But that's all. I had no real idea what had happened to them, or what happened to Neil, to prompt such a long absence. 2 or 3 years later, I was a new man. Because I started working with the "Attacking Anxiety & Depression" home study program. I lost the weight, beat the type 2 diabetes, and was totally free of all those psych meds. One little victory.
So sad the Professor is gone. There will never be another Neil Peart and there will never be another Rush. What a beautiful musical gift Neil, Alex and Geddy gave the world. I will treasure it always.
Give thanks to EA and Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 to show the youth this iconic band. We miss You teacher Peart. The professor's legacy will be forever remembered. R.I.P Neil Peart.
One of THE BEST concert films I've ever seen. I watched it twice in one day when I bought the DVD a few weeks ago. It was brilliant to "end" the show with the first few bars of "Cygnus X-1" with all the stage props swirling down into a black hole.
This song and performance have aged like fine wine. And to think Rush was nearly finished prior to bouncing back with this album. Incredible... They... Are...
Every time I watch "Game of Thrones" dragons, I can see them flying to the thunderous drums of Neil Peart as in this video. RIP Neil Peart, your legacy is immortal and unique.
The Holy Triumvirate. I mean... holy sh*t. Just three guys at the top of their game, having a blast. I know Neil was hurting during this tour... It's been over a year and I still tear up when I remember we lost him. How can anyone give this a thumbs-down? Even if you don't like it, you have to respect it.

I got hot pursuit 2 when i was like 4 yrs old on ps2 and i loved all the songs on that game and when i was like 9/10 i played it out of the blue and i was like waittt no way, that song is rush😂😂
hmmm, to think, soon after this show Neil found out he had brain cancer. It still kills me. What a great man. Listening to his second book right now on audio and he refereed to this song. had to check it out live. thanks. What a bummer!!
If you have the DVD - play it in STEREO mode, which has excellent sound not the goofy sound surround. Then you can crank it and have the concert experience.
They did it to be funny. It was poking fun at the giant amp stacks some bands would take with them, so instead of amps they would bring washing machines or rotisseries. Once they even had a cook attending to the rotisserie chicken throughout the show 😂
@@jtg2737 oh yeah also i forgot about this tidbit of info but Geddy's bass has a direct line into the PA systems so the various gag items were used to keep the stage from looking empty since Geddy didn't have any amps on stage
Porque o Geddy achou que cantar, tocar baixo, teclado e sintetizador com os pés tava muito fácil, então ele decidiu que dava pra aproveitar o tempo livre e lavar as roupas. PS são secadoras, não máquinas de lavar haha

My dad took me to see time machine when I was 5 years old unfortunately I don't remember it too well, I did get to see them during R40 thankfully
Two years later, are you still practicing that guitar? 💪🏻🤘🏻
@@RocknrollcureYes, but I still can't play Rush hahahaha

Only way to describe it!

Well done indeed!!!
This is the human story of victory. The hero’s journey. You lived it and are still here🌲👍
Props to Alex for not only his incredible guitar playing, but also his complementary backing vocals!
One of the most beautiful bass lines of the entire rock history!
R.I.P. Rush.
We need all those "Little Victories" to prepare us for the BIG ones. RUSH isn't just a great rock band, they are teachers for living.
Such an underrrated song.
Underrated by whom?
I can't think of Neil without crying

They way they reintroduce themselves one at a time in this song always fires me up.

Still one of the best intros to a song ever...'live' with the Dragon Film Intro, even better! :)
RIP Neil Peart & rock on🤘🖤🤘
Saw them play this in Calgary, Alberta in 2002. Just stunned by the force and precision of the boys. Especially Neil's opening riff. Brilliant.
A perfect example of a live version even better than the studio version!! 😊
Oh my! I’m remembering seeing this in concert. Shivers! I miss them so much RIP Professor.
This sounds, and looks amazing. RUSH FTW
Killer drum intro!!!

A certain measure of innocence
Willing to appear naive
A certain degree of imagination
A measure of make-believe
A certain degree of surrender
To the forces of light and heat
A shot of satisfaction
In a willingness to risk defeat
Celebrate the moment
As it turns into one more
Another chance at victory
Another chance to score
The measure of the moment
In a difference of degree
Just one little victory
A spirit breaking free
One little victory
The greatest act can be
One little victory
A certain measure of righteousness
A certain amount of force
A certain degree of determination
Daring on a different course
A certain amount of resistance
To the forces of the light and love
A certain measure of tolerance
A willingness to rise above
Neil is brilliant in this
