- A man has been arrested for allegedly tossing debris onto subway tracks in Manhattan on Sunday morning in Chelsea, causing a train to derail and snarling service for much of the day.

When I hear about crap like this it pisses me off! As a person who lives and works between NYC and NJ, I worry more about my mother who (has now resided to working from home) has to travel into the city for medical appointments. This could be my mother on that train, this could be anyone's love one or family member. This is just insane!

Glad no one got hurt. R.I.P to that subway car. I don’t think they’re able to fix the severe damage since those R46 subway cars are over 40 years old and don’t think they have the same materials to replace and possibly scrap the whole car down.
Looks to me like some sheet metal work and maybe a refurbishment of the suspension would do it.

@@mikewolf5367 most of the R46s havent been scrapped, they are the prime rolling stock on most train lines in NYC
The first two cars (6150-6151) were permanently removed from service and replaced with another A-B pair (6206-6207) which existed because of two cars being wrecked in an incident years ago in the 179th St. relay where a motorman was killed. So this pair was linked with the remaining two cars (6153-6152).

That is probably the same train type that was involved in the 1991 Union Square derailment.

Another staple of an upstanding member of the community who did good in school, helps kids with their homework, repairs computers, volunteers with the local church to take old people to get their vaccines, aspiring to be a security guard, learning photography, rap music, designs QR codes, helps the city find potholes, etc etc etc. His bab mama so proud of him.

Has anyone notice that only the old trains are involved in derailments and not the NTT’s? The last time a NTT derailed is a couple years ago on the Q line
Subways especially Manhattan, Brooklyn (downtown areas) are full of homeless mentally ill and people with substance abuse issues, not surprised @ all, am surprised more things like that don't happen.

All you need to do in order to derail a train, is to place a custom made thungsten ramp on one of the rails
1. Were there eye witnesses?
2. Why did authorities arrest this particular man?
3. Where did the generator come from?
None of this makes any sense.

I almost got on this train but the doors closed half a second before I could get on. I got on the next train that came AND GOT STUCK ON IT IN BETWEEN STATIONS FOR HALF AN HOUR later when I got to NJ I was at Exchange place (Jersey city, NJ) and saw a flatbed truck carrying away the subway car (idk why they brought it to NJ)

The old trains structured are weak, if that was a NTT like a R160 or R179, it would have bent the metal, just like the Canarsie yard incident in 2006

They should take the museum R44 and replace that R46 with that
It’s just 4 cars out of service. There’s enough cars in the R46 fleet assignments where we won’t need to replace the damaged cars.
New R211s will come in a few months.

QuarioQuario54321 But under standard procedures, the entire train must be pulled from service until the set can be returned to service. The 4 cars will be held until further notice and other cars from the existing roster will pick up the slack.
As for the museum R44, the other 3 cars of the R44 are somewhere in Coney Island yard, the last time those 3 cars were spotted was in 2018, and I doubt the MTA will return the R44 sense there structure is rotting

I just finished watching the 1975 Classic Movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest" that started the movement to dismantle the Psychiatric Hospitals system in order to "integrate" these sick individuals among society. Now after 45 years, you see the continuous results of this decision where homelessness, crime and social deterioration are the norm thanks to the Liberal Einsteins of that day. I say bring back those facilities and hire more Nurse Rachets to care for these lost souls.

Sadly homelessness is nationwide and an ongoing battle as I was once homeless myself briefly but through buck and people who cared I went back to work and now live in my own apartment in Chelsea Manhattan.
Why couldn't the crazy stay at home in Bellevue this morning. Management should start putting eight locks on their room door instead of 2. There is no excuse for what the homeless man did.

good thing no cops was around, the article said that the good Samaritan caught the the perpetrator and had him in a chokehold for 15 minutes until the cops arrived. a lot of cops would of been in trouble if they did that.
