That is a very long distance maybe 24 to 30 ft for that AC unit to " just fall ". That AC unit had to have some serious momentum to go that far. Newton's law says so. This needs to be investigated!

The FDNY has not used the Cairns leather helmet for many years. I think the brand they currently use is Morning Pride and the model is the Ben Franklin. It’s made of a composite material. No leather. The Cairns all leather helmets were phased out in the early to mid 1990’s because of OSHA requirements. Cairns then sold a leather helmet with a composite inner shell which the FDNY then used for a number of years. When Howard Safir was the Fire Commissioner the FDNY switched over to a quartermaster system and the City supplied the uniforms and PPE with the exception of SCBA. Prior to that F/F’s had to purchase and maintain their gear. Perhaps because Morning Pride supplies the bunker gear they supply the helmets as well, although IDK if that was the reason for the change of brands. BTW, helmets have to be replaced every so many years...I forget what the time frame is. Every 10 years, perhaps. I don’t recall.

That helmet is called a New Yorker. made of hard leather, it has saved many firemen and civilians.
