Agreed, although laughably easy even on Impossible difficulty. Though I have fun on Impossible, because even though the AI is a twitchy schizophrenic moron, he out produces and out researches me for most of the game. Once I have a planet that can churn out a Titan every two turns, then it just turns into a couple major fleet engagements and mop up. (Unless I win a council victory or an Antaran Victory.) Stellar converters aren't necessary, but who DOESN'T want the power to destroy a planet?
Endless hours on this game as a teenager. Though I haven't heard these in probably two decades or more, I instantly remembered each theme as I heard it. I forgot how well they matched the alien lifeforms and situations.
The first contact moments with races were always the most memorable for me. I remember cheering audibly when certain races were in the game, just because I loved their music so much.
Such gifted people the ones that made this game. I thank them so much for providing this universe for me to grow up on. Made me a folk interested in astrology, technology and in civilizations. And although I'm not aiming to be an scholar in my professional career, I feel that this type of character as if we were on a RPG, would be the one that most fits me. Best regards from Brazil.
You can go to Mars on the colony ship and start to build your Master of Orion empire there and expand through the galaxy getting into big wars with aliens.
I've played this game for years, and I'll be honest, I've never played against the Psilons, cuz I was ALWAYS the Psilons (creative is so OP for an ability), when that theme played, I didn't recognize it at first cuz I never heard of the song until now, and then it hit me because I've heard all the other races, omg, that's the Psilons! It's so much more pretty than I thought for a theme!
4:38 - Theme 3 - is the music I love to play when I'm writing in my sci-fi setting, and need some ambience that fits to a mindset of "travering the vastness of the galaxy and its myriad worlds".
Those hostility themes...I lost count of how many times I pissed off a highly developed race with a fleet that easily outnumbers mine then tried to make peace just to be ignored every damn time while listening to them lol
So that's when that music shows up. Huh. I know all of these themes by heart except the Hostility themes. I guess the few times I got into that situation I didn't remember the music for it. Odd. Would have thought I'd have run into that ALL THE TIME. :) But I probably clicked through the diplo screen if I knew it was going to go badly. God it's been so long since I played this. And I'm pretty sure it's still in my Steam library. *cracks knuckles* Probably time to take over the galaxy again.
Thanks for the upload. Spent countless hours on this game. Ion Pulse Cannon = The ultimate weapon for countering a superior, advanced tech civilization. It's just occurring to me how much that opening track reminds me of Brian Eno's "Prophecy Theme" for the Dune soundtrack. And not in a bad way; those shrill-but-soothing high synths and overall musicality mixed with ambient swells is exquisite. Over two decades of good memories playing this game from my childhood to today.
This game is one of my all time favourites. I also love Stellaris in the genre but I still find myself pining for this! MOO3 isn't as bad as they say but I couldn't get into the MOO4. My take on the game: Before launching the game for the first time (I didn't hear much about it up until that time), I was skeptical of its atmosphere, because I thought many such space games have something of a rock soundtrack. And then when I launched it, I was greeted by the main menu, and heard the Theme 3. This is when I almost immediately fell in love with the game, and knew I will love it :) Soundtrack is a really huge part of this game!
it was at a time when the games themselves graphically could not make or break the game. Adding strategic values with multiple facets of choice truly helped proportion of this amazing 4X. I'm not crazy about video games but I have not seen a game but he has even come close to rivaling what this game offered me. The graphics are not even a problem. It is MIDI : )
What was your guys favourite race(s)? Mine wasa toss between sakkra, mrrhsn and bulrathi
+Uncanny Jackal kinda, the awesome thing with bulrathi is their marines kick so much ass. So you can board antaran ships and get the best ship techs in the game pretty quickly.
Elerians, namely because of the whole psionic takeover of systems.
I usually Played a custom Race, based on the Silioides (so I Won't have them as enemie :D)... Creative Lithoves called "Pentons".
CXSGroupie mine is darlocks or sakkaras
Silicoids hands down. Psilons are fun, but I love the whole "I don't care where I settle because rocks are delicious" thing they have going for them.
15:23 ^_^
I'd name three battle themes as: Borderline conflict, Home defense, Cool counterstike.
