This music works perfectly in the game itself. A lot of music for games is simply nice to listen to, particularly older games with limited audio channels, which are very melodic, but they aren't necessarily good for the game. Silent Hill 2 is a perfect example of music that fits the gameplay, even though most wouldn't listen to the majority of it outside of the game. This is another case where it's used to such a good effect. but it's also really nice to listen to on it's own. It gives the game a great sense of flow that it might not otherwise have and isn't too abrasive that the player cannot focus on the task at hand, but still help gives the game a feeling of tension, urgency, and speed when things are getting hectic. It has a very nice contrast between the tracks which are more ambient and wonderful, while the player searches empty or friendly constellations, and the stimulating tracks of hostility.

Whatever genre it is has certainly never been particularly popular (not that a lack of popularity makes it bad).

@@internetbodhi1009 Personally, I think Federation would work better during the credits. It would serve as a nice reminder of who you fought for. And it would work particularly well with Federation ships moving across the screen. Just a thought though. :D
Nothing quite hit me like the Civil (Explore) theme my first time playing, the music made me feel like I was in outerspace. Also being high for the first time really helped ;)
57:11 I've been looking for this track. It was the final straw that made me fall in love with the game. I mean yeah, everyone likes a battle to be epic and engaging and visually and audially spectacular, and the other OSTs manage to do that quite well. But not all of them have to be that way. It's very rare for a game to present a battle that is slow, concentrated, almost tedious even, all while still having the player at the edge of their seat. Absolutely amazing!
I’ve played this game for seven years now, and owned the soundtrack for six. I don’t think I’ve ever heard “Colony Ship” before, which is shocking because it slaps
The music by Ben made the game, it gave you the immersion needed to enjoy every other aspect of what was happening in game. I have hundreds of hours on this game and haven't grown tired of the music.
And Hacking Malfunction Battle is the best Battle theme in the game in my opinion... and it usually comes on during intense fights on my runs, making it that much better! =]
It's so great how the soundtrack sounds pretty basic, but they still managed to pull off this alien galaxy exploration vibe without needing to rely on orchestral instruments or stuff. Kinda reminds me of Mass Effect's galaxy map soundtrack.
Airduinec SI According to your profile you left and then came back, presumably under a different name, so I don't recall you, no. I saw you posted a comment on one of Truefurry's videos, lol. I used to talk to him, I'm in a couple of his older ones.
By far the best soundtrack I have ever heard. This even surpasses the Halo series, and I am a diehard Halo fan, thank you for uploading this, subscribed
Does anyone else listen to this while playing Kerbal Space Program? If you start Star Cruise as you enter the main menu, the music fits perfectly. Especially if, like me, you design cruiser-class ships and fly them to Mantis battle music.
"Yes! We're about to defeat the flagship once and for all!" *WARNING: ENGINES CRITICAL* "Oh well, just need a few more seconds to charge the kill shot, we can take that hit." *WARNING: SHIELDS CRITICAL* *WARNING: HULL CRITICAL* "Uh oh." *WARNING: POWER SURGE DETECTED!* "Fuck."
The greatest thing about any game is the soundtrack. Your game could literally be a perfect simulation of the entire universe, with perfect graphics and AI so convincing you begin to wonder if they really are NPC's, but if that game has a trash soundtrack, nobody will play it. The FTL soundtrack perfectly fits the game's concept and style.
*Starts game* I went easy this time. *Sector 2 abandoned sector* This will be easy, with my burst laser, artemis and vulcan, nothing can stop me!*First ship encountered a lanius bomber with 2 crew boarding, fire beam and hacking tools* Oh well.... GG!
I've started using this to replace background music in game and i fits so well i forget i did it, until i'm doing something chill and a battle theme comes on and i feel like i'm under attack.
The Rebel space soundtrack really is amazing. It conveys the danger very well, those composers did a great job. It reminds me quite clearly of those suicidal missile drones with self-repairing systems.
I left my game running to farm evasion points for a long time, I came back to find that the music audio completely spazzed out, adding an odd pulsing effect and mixing other rhythms into the music. Oddly enough the final output sounded quite catchy.
Check out Deep Space Deluxe by Ben Prunty. It's like an unofficial EP for those that like the FTL soundtrack. I would say Black Hole Entity (Battle) is my favorite Prunty track besides maybe Hacking Malfunction (Battle).
if we ever make it to the stars, this is one of the courses that should be taught at Starfleet Academy. Yeah. A less creepy version of last stand is very relieving.
Was looking for a comment saying that
57:11 I've been looking for this track.
SAME. this song made me stop everything and look up the soundtrack
I’ve played this game for seven years now, and owned the soundtrack for six. I don’t think I’ve ever heard “Colony Ship” before, which is shocking because it slaps
I just spent 6 hours coding to this stuff. Almost sad it's over now.
***** Wouldn't it be amazing if it was a mod for the space related game of exploration and nerve-racking danger we all adore...
Kerbal Space Program?
***** I am not in particular a fan of it, but I can see why it is adored.
love to work with this in the background. I get boosts encouragement during the battle versions of the tracks. ;3
6 hours of coding done in 2 hours ... that is impressive.
Christopher Wanha He's sad the coding is over, he restarted the music 2 times.
The music by Ben made the game, it gave you the immersion needed to enjoy every other aspect of what was happening in game. I have hundreds of hours on this game and haven't grown tired of the music.
FTL soundtrack works for literally every space game, you can’t tell me otherwise
The GOAT soundtrack to the GOAT game.
9 people got attacked by giant alien space spiders.
+Towel and their clone bays were destroyed in the previous battle
+Squash
Gigant spiders are no joke! But didn't they have Engi on board? Didn't they fixed themselves before next jump? Weird :
i have no idea,,,
+Towel im one of them here :throws giant alien spider at you: have it
I like how the Slug Battle theme is pretty much representative of how terrifying it is to fight Slug ships near the endgame.
And Hacking Malfunction Battle is the best Battle theme in the game in my opinion... and it usually comes on during intense fights on my runs, making it that much better! =]
+TheYAGC yup
5 shields, hack+mind control
Yeah. Mind control. Fucking scary if you have max level hand to hand and no clone bay
5 shields, 3 levels of cloaking, and by the way your oxygen is turned off until the end of the fight 0.o
It's so great how the soundtrack sounds pretty basic, but they still managed to pull off this alien galaxy exploration vibe without needing to rely on orchestral instruments or stuff. Kinda reminds me of Mass Effect's galaxy map soundtrack.
Is weird to listen to this music without the constant hyperspace jump sound and then the 'DING' LoL
its 2020. owned the game for 5 years. playing it right now
Well, how is it?
This is the only video I can find with both the original soundtrack and the Advanced Edition soundtrack. Kudos!
Airduinec SI
hi
Airduinec SI
According to your profile you left and then came back, presumably under a different name, so I don't recall you, no.
I saw you posted a comment on one of Truefurry's videos, lol. I used to talk to him, I'm in a couple of his older ones.
Airduinec SI
Doesn't ring a bell but it sounds vaguely pony related and I really can't avoid that stuff more.
Airduinec SI
Yeah I recognize you now.
Airduinec SI
I'm still using the same name on Skype and Steam if you want to add me, going to bed now
By far the best soundtrack I have ever heard.
Never tried that, but i believe that is a good idea!
It sounds like rocks are being smashed together in the background of the Rockmen theme, nice touch.
Your Missiles: Miss miss miss miss
Their Missiles: Hit while cloaked, hit while cloaked, breach on O2, Disabled Engines with 2 fire.
Solution: ion weapons + lasers

+James26994 I expirienced it one time i made a screen
+James26994 i will post a link when i have time
Colony ship is hands-down my favorite in this OST, never heard it until I listened to this track lol
We need a sequel or a prequel.
Prequel!!!
One where the kestrel is the backbone of the federation instead of an outdated but still used ship? I'd love that.
Gran Gurbo on the forums there its a mod in developmet for you
Niklas Bergvall what?
zDark PixeLz Raven is developing a mod that is 50 years in the past
Commenting to support this amazing soundtrack
I don't even have a favorite song from this game, they're all so good I can't just like one the best.
god i love this game
Playing Starsector, with this going on in the background. Perfection!
Deepspace (Battle) will forever be my favorite track. The percussion and metallic sounds are just too damn cool.
2 years since I first played this, just absolutely beautiful, definitely one of those soundtracks that stick with you
The feels I get from this OST is unquantifiable
1:47:17 - Federation is the best one, final answer
Let us take a moment to thank the person who uploaded this.
Hacking malfunction hits me and i just think whoa... this is amazingly FLT.
It IS amazingly FTL. The best game sountrack i have ever heard.
Thank you so much for not putting a bunch of ads over music you don't own like everyone else.
I fucking love everything about this game
Never played the game..... LOVE the soundtrack. I have it playing on my MP3 on my long distance rides. LOVE modern day composers!
The best moments are when an encounter suddenly turns hostile and the music turns to battle mode.
chills.exe
*Starts game* I went easy this time. *Sector 2 abandoned sector* This will be easy, with my burst laser, artemis and vulcan, nothing can stop me!*First ship encountered a lanius bomber with 2 crew boarding, fire beam and hacking tools* Oh well.... GG!
Rip lol lanius do suck out the air but seriesly its on easy cmon :p
Rip lol lanius do suck out the air but seriesly its on easy cmon :p
That would be sudden regret for not upgrading oxygen system.
FTLRNG: KEKEKEK!!! NO GOOD RUNS FOR YOU!!!
Colony Ship (Bonus) and The Last Stand are my favorite.
Also this video is awesome!
Ben Prunty is the king of video game soundtracks
I wish mantis battle 40:41-41:00 would go on forever.
just played it again after so many years. still an awesome game and one of the best soundtracks ever. i forgot how good it was :-)
The Last Stand. The one of the only songs in any game that will make me sweat quite a bit and pause more times than I remember.
I've started using this to replace background music in game and i fits so well i forget i did it, until i'm doing something chill and a battle theme comes on and i feel like i'm under attack.
best title music in any game ever
I can’t count how many times I’ve fallen asleep to this
What a strange, gorgeous soundtrack.
I've never heard of FTL, looks like it's a game. I'm loving the soundtrack though!!
GunGryphon
Interesting. Have you tried to recreate this phenomenon? And capture it in a recording?
Charles I recorded as many tracks as I could, but it's in an un-edited mess on my old computer. I'd have to dig it out of storage...
Check out Deep Space Deluxe by Ben Prunty. It's like an unofficial EP for those that like the FTL soundtrack. I would say Black Hole Entity (Battle) is my favorite Prunty track besides maybe Hacking Malfunction (Battle).
Holy scrap, how am I just finding out about this?
please give the composer Ben Prunty credit, mate
thanks, Captain Klutz
Andrew Shankles Done
+Andrew Shankles thanks smelly liberal hipster douche, i thought it was Captian_Klutz who composed this music.
+Andrew Shankles THANKS BRO, WITHOUT YOU I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO NOT CARE EITHER WAY
+SquarishLink Get back on the short bus and GTFO of here.

if we ever make it to the stars, this is one of the courses that should be taught at Starfleet Academy.
FTL, Artemis, Rimworld, Stellaris, No Man's Sky, Planetbase, Surviving Mars, Per Aspera....
you literally have all fields covered there: Command, Engineering, Astrometrics, Navigation, Xenobiology,....
if you manage to win this game, you qualify to try the Command course.
Pulsar Lost Colony would be a good final exam too
You forget Parkan and Space Rangers series.BTW,maybe it`s for the command?
Add Starsector there to teach how to commit profitable crimes
Thanks for this track order, seams like even the album awkwardly splits it between Explore/Battle and without the advanced edition bits :)
I listen to this while at work. Really helps get through the slough.
Merci MV de m'avoir fait jouer à cette pépite.
This music reminds me of when I played this game with my uncle, about 6 years ago. 🚀 It was the first time I heard about this game. Now its October, 2021 and my uncle committed suicide. I miss him so so much. Rest in peace. 😕🕊
I'm so sorry for your loss :( Playing video games together with family is a wonderful experience, I was never as close to my father as I would have liked but we bonded a lot over gaming together. I hope you and your uncle made some fond memories via this game.
Balfuset thank u so much! i didnt think anyone would care enough to answer but u did! i really appreciate u. i hope ur doing well. 💕
i know of no other soundtrack that is so uplifting yet can cause so much PTSD
I MUST NOW GO AND PLAY ALL THE FTL
all of it?
good luck,
see you in 10 years or so
xx
Matthew Wilder It's been a month since his first, only, and likely last post... RIP in peace techandtrains101...
Was probably eaten by space mantis's
Decietful Cake GLAIVE BEAM!
Decietful Cake :O
naaahhhh
he is just playing, another 9 and a half years he will comment again :D
techandtrains101 Oh god, the Glaive Beam, I once got that and I could wipe out an enemy ship in about two to nine seconds, depending on how much shields he had.
Ive visited many musical galaxies in search of this type of music. I've finally reached my destination.
One of greatest soundtrack of all time, I cannot say much more fucking brilliant!
It's the soundtrack of the game that makes me crave to return to it again and again after almost a decade of playing.
Giant Alien Spiders are no joke!
The OST for this game does things to me... Extremely nostalgic and beautiful
