As always, Emily thinks about all the tiny details when she teaches caking, up to and including HOW to cut a tall cake. Brilliant and very helpful! Thank you!
Thanks so much for this video. So helpful! I watched it this morning so I could cut my son's 1st birthday cake at his party this afternoon. It cut perfectly! Barely any mess at all 🙌
I did this at a party this weekend where I served a cake I was hired to make. The swiss meringue icing was a bit soft and it was just a bit messy (but prob not more than slicing another way). But I didn't bring a board for it to fall onto and I realized very quick it is essential! Luckily it was friends, so next time when I use this method it will be more refined. 😁
Yes, the board is definitely essential! I imagine it's a bit messier with swiss meringue because it doesn't set as firmly as buttercream but happy to hear it still works - thanks for telling me!
I would like an outside slice, please. lol That looks so good and although your slicing method is excellent, I would love it no matter how you slice it. Stay safe and see you next week. Bisous de la France
It's just a question of preference. I prefer the taste of buttercream but some people prefer whipped cream. I like working with buttercream because it takes on very bright colours and there are lots of decorating techniques that are possible with buttercream but not whipped cream, like acetate transfers
That's how I cut it but the last piece always falls the other way before I am done, or when I don't want to cut anymore. If it's cold I know that won't happen but when it come to room temp the butter softens

Just showed hubby. I make a huge cake for morning tea for his work, every week. I told him to cut it like this, now you have proven me correct 😆

Good tip thanks dear. Wanted to know whether whipped cream has any advantage over butter cream frosting
