who puts in effort to hit the down button I don't get a player puts time and effort into free content and some guy gives it a thumbs down I don't get it
I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your tutorials. You are one of the best youtube instructors. I learned the Johnny B Goode intro, which I always wanted to learn
I'm 63..and you are quite the talent. Thanks for the tips and perfect finger look. Sometimes its hard to see fingers in other vids. And your taking time for this deserves a tip of the hat. Thanks again. .
You have single-handedly done more for my understanding and progress on the guitar than any of the DOZENS of other courses and tutorials I’ve tried over my 40-year journey to advance my proficiency and enjoyment of the instrument… I cannot thank you enough…
I tried this Rockabilly picking a few years ago but with no success, now I think due to a less than great tutorial, as after watching this I am now semi-fluent within an hour thanks to your excellent tutorial! I just found your channel, seems we share an appreciation of punk/new wave and country, a bit of a weird combination. I'll be working my way through your vids. Cheers buddy.
I have been thinking about getting into rockabilly. I didn't know there was a picking pattern. You're the only one I have found that shows right hand technique. Subbed. I'm looking forward to watching your videos.
You're the best Adrian! Started playing guitar only recently and was a bit lost 'till your lessons on The Cramps popped up. Now I'm making full-throttle progress and I owe it all to you mate! Thank you so much.
Thanks a lot for this bro. I learned these picking patterns about a year ago because I started getting into rockabilly and country. Started getting obsessed. Now I use this technique all the time. I love it.
This is a really great lesson, clear and easy to follow. I used to do a bit of Travis pick years ago and this lesson made it really easy to get back into. Thanks
I'm totally amazed how clear and productive this lesson is. I had the simple version mostly under my fingers (stumbling of course) in an hour. Great Lesson!
Nice Lesson. In 72 I was learning this from Chet Atkin records..an older gentleman helped me. Mom got me some Chet Atkin learning material.. At first, all I had was a Sears Silvertone archtop accoustic 🎸. .Developed calluses with it. I learned one of Chets showpiece thumb picking songs. Can't remember the name. I was watching a Music award show..i saw Chet Atkins come out..and thought he would do some real show stoppers.. He did the one I knew..I thought people really need to hear the amazing things you do.. I learned years later that he was the vice president of a little ole record company. RCA.(Radio Corporation of America.. A style like this requires. accuracy. I've noticed.keeping the fingernail well trimmed fretting hand is definite plus. I personally like to let the picking finger grow. You can play with out a pick or with a pick. Just a little trimming..for standard neatness. Also you can peel oranges with that etc Orangeja glad I included this.
Brilliant pattern breakdown tutorial thanks ! I never realised quite how much rockabilly picking stems right out of the early blues players styles before it's insane - love it.
This is *exactly* what I was looking for. I pretty much have clown fingers that take a very long time to "learn", and you've broken rockabilly down into a beat-for-beat template that I can add layers to as I practice (every day). Thank you for remembering that there's always someone out there who needs to see step-by-step how to achieve the sound they want.
This guy like many others, especially classically trained musicians, cannot play Rock a Billy and a few other styles. The reason is, these guys are focused on notes, and counting. And the trouble is, RockaBilly can't be properly written in any time signature. Hes countinh a 2/4 time, but Rockabilly is not 2/4 time. So, while he may play the right NOTES, he's missing the feel that makes Rockabilly sound like rockabilly!! To learn Rockabilly correctly, tou need to LISTEN to the music being played. NOT by a "teacher" but by someone who plays it. Listen to some of the greats old the 50's, 60's etc.. Listen and listen more, until you can feel the music, and feel the groove its supposes to have. Because its ALL about the groove and feel. NOTES are secondary. Tou can play all the eight notes, and the best youll ever sound, is like this guy at the 21:40 mark when he "lets it rip"... While that may sound nice, thats NOT RockaBilly. Its a standard blues, country progression in 2/4 time. RockaBilly came out of the 40's Big Band music (guitar), it also comes from 1940's western swing music, which is a very close sound to RockaBilly, just a bit more refined, polished and complex.... BUT, if you remember anything at all from this, let it be this: RockaBilly music is all about the feel, swing and groove of the music. 3 things you MUST know so well, you dont have to wven think about them when playing. And while I think this teacher here, is a good guitarist in general, he has NONE of the three things mentioned. He plays notes. Rockabilly is about playing the music in a way that it has that swing, groove it MUST have, or its simply not rockabilly! Its just a country blues progression in 2/4 time. I hope all this makes aense to the person who's really trying to develop their rockabilly sound but is stuck. Following a lesson like this leads you in the wrong direction. Again, I don't say that to criticize this guy, I personally think he's a great guitarist. He just cant play rockabilly. And hell, as a guitarist myself, theres styles I just stay away from. And thats because I CAN'T play them properly. And as to this new school of thought, put forth by Gen Z'ers and Millennials who claim "There is no right & wrong way in music, its art, so however I CHOOSE to play it, IS correct".... How many times have I heard that, from a 15 year old saying he's going to play Hendrix Purple Haze, BUT "He's gonna play it HIS way, so the notes that are wrong, (oops, I mean different than Jimi's notes) are played "wrong" on purpose, because thats how he plays it".... 🙄.
I've had to return to this several times, but the information is sound, and well-constructed. Once I have mastered this I will really feel I've accomplished something so thanks fort pitching this at me.
Fantastic beginners rockabilly lesson. Ive always wanted to do this and for the first time I'm really on my way. Best Travis picking pattern breakdown lesson Ive seen.
Great lesson mate. We'll explained. Thanks a lot! I got it in a short while just doing what you're doing. Now I'm not even thinking about what the fretting right hand should be doing.
Hey Adrian! Good to hear from you man! Hope all is well with you and yours. Looking forward to working this one out. Always enjoyed Carl Perkins work, especially when George was with him. Take care amigo & thanks again, Dave in the Adirondacks
You're an excellent teacher. Me, open chord guitar blues but mostly baritone ukulele. Watching the chords, it's like I/IV/V but jazzed up in standard tuning. I've never attempted this style. Don't own a Tele (just a Strat), but I'll be working on this with a thumb pick tomorrow. Thanks!
Been working on it for a week now and can stumble through the simple version. The trickier version moving between the root and low fifth seems impossible. Thanks again for such a wonderful lesson and I wish you Happy Holidays! I'll keep working on this :-)
This is a really great sound. I always liked fingerstyle, but I believe close is good enough. I never realized how difficult guitar was until I started with Travis picking. its very difficult. The chords are the easy part, I just flail with the right fingers., Its close, still sounds pretty good.
Cheers Adrian, I really appreciate you taking the time to post these. My playing is coming along in leaps and bounds thanks to you and your well explained, excellent lessons. Thanks mate.
I’ve been working this video the last few days and OUCH! My picking fingers are soft from years of brutal sweep arpeggios, now I wanna play some bumpkin music and it hurts...I guess I found what techniques are really brutal! Thanks chap
This is so much fun! Thanks a lot for this awesome lesson. I've been working on it for two days and have the basics of the simple picking pattern down now. I'll definitely be back for subsequent study/practice.
Hi Adrian, I learned a few country licks from your channel and just wanted say that your teaching method and playing skills are excellent! I do lessons of my own here on the tube of a different genre so I know how much effort you put in to these videos. Thanks buddy, keep up the good work! Ken :-)
To all you “shredders” that laugh at rockabilly, honestly ive met a few who laugh at when ive been asked what i play on guitar, give this a go, i dare ya, ive been playing this since i was 13yrs old,im now 57 and still love it. This is what gives me goosebumps
The only instructor more interesting in teaching than showing off his chops. Thanks for these videos. I love the country also.
Don't know who the nuggets are who are downvoting this...great playing and teaching, thanks for these lessons Adrian, I've learned loads.

More than half a million visualizations for a rockabilly rhytm guitar lesson: great!
You are a man that makes me want to play. Thank you for your inspiring and generous lessons

The best explanation of the basics of fingerpicking. Thank you, Adrian.
I completely agree. I came here to post that same thing :)
This is a really great lesson, clear and easy to follow. I used to do a bit of Travis pick years ago and this lesson made it really easy to get back into. Thanks
The I VI II V turnaround was a life changing event. Thank you!
I'm totally amazed how clear and productive this lesson is. I had the simple version mostly under my fingers (stumbling of course) in an hour. Great Lesson!
Top quality as usual... The best guitar teacher online!!!
I never did much more than power or bar chords on guitar, now I am trying to learn some and your tutorial is excellent
That is AWESOME Adrian!! Thank you!!! You're welcome to come stay and visit in Ventura , Calif after pandemic. I'll introduce you to some pickers!

Thanks Adrian !! For years II’ve been using Open Chords, or Cowboy Chords, for Johnny Cash Songs. This opens up the whole fretboard. 😁🌴🥥🎸🇵🇷
