So appreciate this video.. been trying to get this style for a while.. was feeling very spastic.. turns out I was missing hitting the E on the 4th string with my thumb .. now I’m on the path .. thank you so much ..
Great lesson, but it's not one-to-one the Scotty Moore version. If you listen carefully to Scotty's MYSTERY TRAIN, you can hear a slight tonal change in the basic lick: in the first measure Scotty uses the fourth, third and second string (as you did in your lesson), but in the second measure Scotty uses the fourth, second and first string instead of repeating the fourth, third and second string . And then Scotty repeats both measures the same way...
Scott Moores version is the choo choo train getting started, chugga, chugga, chugga, ..Setzers version is the train picking cadence chugga, chugga , chugga , chugga , chugga, chugga ,chugga ..Choo choooooo. They sound great totally together !!
scotty did use a thumb pick.....what a player....feel scotty and elvis were pretty close to 50/50 on their recordings....must of been something from up above that they got together
I saw an interview where Scotty said that Elvis would always just play straight major chords to everything, no minors, no sus, etc etc, while Scotty played the actual chords as written, but together, it worked.
@@chairlesnicol672 A type of chord variation, I'll let Wikipedia explain - A suspended chord (or sus chord) is a musical chord in which the (major or minor) third is omitted and replaced with a perfect fourth or a major second.[1] The lack of a minor or a major third in the chord creates an open sound, while the dissonance between the fourth and fifth or second and root creates tension. 🙂 Basically, Elvis could play guitar, but he wasn't a guitarist, he played at a basic level.
@@chairlesnicol672 No, I just play guitar! Like Elvis though, I'm not a guitarist, I'm a singer that can play guitar and bass when required, and like him, I keep it simple and leave the subtleties to the guitarists (not saying I'm as good at singing as Elvis was!).
Thanks! I will be adding tabs to future videos. I added a link to the tab for this in the description. And here it is as well: theteledynes.com/guitar-tabs
Thanks! Yeah I probably should have. I talked about it a bit in my two previous videos, so I kinda forgot to mention it. Anyway if want to know it’s a Nocturne BS-301 Mystery Brain pedal.
There is only ONE version of "Mystery Train", not two --- and it's the Scotty version. If you want to sing and play "Mystery Train" do the Scotty. Setzer is doing something else, an inferior variation that just doesn't sound as good. Scotty's version is perfect, end of story. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
The Elvis-Scotty-Moore version of "Mystery Train" is also my favourite one, it's much more relaxed and more melodic than the Brian Setzer version. Most of the cover-versions are played much too fast for my taste.
@@cinquettitt6161,hi When you get time, check out Edward Phillips ,Edward does the Scotty style then another with slide on his cigar box, really really good👍 That cat can play then some👍
Yeah I hadn’t started putting TAB in the videos yet. However in the video description box I put a link to a free downloadable PDF of the TAB. Here is the link: theteledynes.com/guitar-tabs
Yeah but his version is a more slower funkier thing, still very cool but not really rockabilly. Danny Gatton and James Burton also have some pretty crazy versions too. Much respect to JG thanks for the comment.
You are an EXCELLENT teacher.
Thanks.
TeleDynes.....good work.. most appreciative...thanks for sharing
Nice job. I hope to see your channel grow. A follow up vid for the other parts of the song would be awesome. Especially the Setzer version.
Thanks! Yeah defiantly I'll do a follow up video. Working on the TAB so I can included that too.
Excellent vid great playing and sound great lession easy to understand😊
Thanks I appreciate it!
Jerry Garcia Band absolutely murders this song. I would love to see a version of Jerry’s riff for it. This video helped a ton though, thanks man
Great lesson. Nicely explained
nice slap back
Thanks for the lesson, that guitar is real good looking +the sound matches ❤😊
Great playing and tutorial
You rock dude, cool lesson.
That guitar sounds so bright and clear
Enjoy watching this picking… Scotty Moore a legend and Setzer is fabulous…! ❤️💯👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks again for the comment!
Incredible
Hey..... Harder than it looks, but very nice demo! I'd like to hear more about the riff when you slide up to the A.
I just stumbled on this and you are a great teacher!
Thank you, I appreciate it!

Great lesson, really beautiful guitar. You got yourself a new subscriber, thank you !!!
Super cool lesson 👍
love this!

Please dont forget that Chet Atkins plays along with Scotty at the RCA Sessions😊
Great lesson, and of course like everyone else, Great Gretsch Guitar! I have a charcoal hot rod, myself. 2016 or so, deep body version. I love it!!
Brilliant 🤠

Great lesson, sub added
...'That's pretty much the jist of it...'.Genius;
Jerry Garcia has a nice take on the riff as well.
Oh cool, I'll have to check that out. Thanks for the Comment
Came here to say this. Love JGB.
Sounds good slowed a bit
Just found your channel today. Nice job on the lessons that is easily explained. Will you have a printable tab on other lessons?

Artists shouldn't be forced to comply with "One" 'rule'. What a boring music would result.
No tableture.

That Gretsch is beautiful.
I kinda like James burtons version lol
Man this lesson is awesome. You are really very good at explanation. Thank you 🙏🏽
I've seen a ton of videos on Mystery Train, but yours is the first to explain it clear and simply. Thank you!
You’re welcome, thanks! I appreciate it!
My favorite Elvis song of all time....
Mine too! Although’Baby let’s play house’ is up there
Setzer's version almost has a Chet Atkins ring to it......
Just subscribed.Brilliant video
👍👍 lesson 🎸🎶
good analysis, Brian didn’t just copy Scotty, as many do. he improved this classic riff and made the sound even richer
Setzer is awesome, but you can't improve that original riff. Great lesson.
Dude, loved the breakdown of the two versions of Mystery Train.
Thanks! I appreciate it.
Great lesson
Jerry Garcia plays it best...

What Gretsch model #?
It’s a Blue Harbor Setzer HotRod 6120
Great lesson
Thanks!
