    on ours, the valve stem oil seals were also shot. These engines run very hot (up to 112c) and toast the rubber gaskets. I would keep an eye on the TC, as some can be knackered at 60k miles if the oil changes are not frequent enough and the stop start is used regularly

      Hi Phil. Thanks for your comment. Maybe a silly question but what is the TC?

      @@midlifemini lol, there is never a silly question - it is the timing chain. If (read when) it needs changing, go for a full kit including rectang rings, vanos sprockets, guides, tensioner, chain, front main seal and lower sproket

    If you have oil and water mixing, it might be the oil filter housing gaskets are bad, letting water in the oil lines and oil in the coolant. Would explain why you are losing oil. Easier to fix than rebuilding the engine block.

      That’s a great shout. Thanks James. I will run this past my mechanic next time I see him. Could be a part 3 coming soon 😂

      @@midlifemini upon reflection- water in the spark plug area is not likely the oil filter housing

      Thanks for your comment. Changing the rocker cover gaskets actually helped it a lot. That said I have since part exchanged the black Cooper for a red Cooper S. Love it :-)

    I'll be interested on how you get on, you seem to have exactly the same issues as me

      I’ll be sure to update on this channel with developments. It’s hard to know if it’s still bad with the cooler temperatures atm.
      I find it’s mainly on idle? Is that the same with yours?

    • @lankyjohn
      @lankyjohn Год назад

      @Midlife MINI yes same with mine on idle. I seem to have used a little coolant but the oil and coolant look fine and don't look like they mixed

      @@lankyjohn sounds very similar although my coolant has been okay….. I think 🤔 😂

      It’s seemed to but I couldn’t give you a long term answer on that as I fell for a Cooper S and part exchanged the old black one.

    did you ever fix this car?

      Hi. I have since changed the car and now have a cooper S but changing all the gadgets did seem to help it. I had no intentions to get rid of this car until I saw the one I have now. I was teased in by the panoramic sunroof and heated seats.
