    Last year I bought a used long block for my 97 Accord 2.2 for under $80. The guy told me the engine idled poorly and had blue smoke coming from the tail pipe. Further inspection revealed excessive oil in one spark plug and oil seepage from the exhaust. Disassembled the engine and found a burnt exhaust valve probably due to oil coming through the piston oil control ring. Purchased a re-ring kit and went to work. Found #3 pistons rings totally shot out and replaced the burnt valve. Put the engine together and she started! I was so glad since this was my first project I ever did putting an engine together. I gave the car to my son to get around town when he’s not deployed in the military.
    I bought the car for a great deal with mechanical issues. The owner said the engine sounded like a rod bearing was going bad. When I removed the oil pan, it looked like Tinker Bell’s Dad was living in the oil pan...I still have the original engine in the garage. Maybe I can bring it back to life??🤔

    Thank you so much, you were a life save today. I have a oil leak and today I was in a rush and filled way too much oil (did not take the time to use the dipstick) . My old Nissan then proseeded to smoke bomb the whole neighbourhood. Then I found your video and the light bulb finally went on. I drained down the oil to 3/4 and let the engine run for 30 minutes. Problem solved.

    Thanks for this video. My 2013 Ford Flex loss power & then I saw some smoke coming from behind (mufflers) I pulled over immediately & shut it off, raised the hood, checked my oil, which was fine/normal, my antifreeze was still full in reserve tank, it never ran hot but did start rough idling too. Next day auto parts store put the check engine light machine on it & it gave codes for four O2 sensors. Next day had it towed to a shop parents have used for diagnostic & told them exactly what it was doing for them to waste my time to tell me the next day they didn’t put it on the machine because of the smoke (that I told them about the day before in their shop office) & that it had a blown head gasket. I find it crazy to say that when they didn’t even put it on the diagnostic machine or do any other testing besides there was smoke so it’s a blown head gasket. After watching this video, I’m really wondering if it just needs a catalytic converter & O2 sensors replaced as thought from taking by auto parts store for the check engine light little machine that said O2 sensors four to be exact. I don’t like getting the run around when I’m trying to get my car fixed before my child goes back to school Monday. I’m her transportation because she’s out of zone & no bus is provided. Hoping tomorrow I can find an honest mechanic that will diagnose the problem instead of guessing, I can’t afford a well I thought that was the problem. So many shops are still trying to get over on women & it’s pathetic. I know some about cars & they hate when I ask questions.

    • @raybrensike42
      @raybrensike42 2 года назад

      Biggest rip offs I have seen in life are auto repair shops. Be careful. If you have loss of power it might be good to check the catalytic converter to see if it is clogged. I was able to clean mine with a power drill and a round wire brush and same a lot of money. Might want to start there. If you have a clogged cat you can loos a lot of power, like not being able to drive past 60 mph, but a partially clogged one can rob gas mileage.
      So if a cat is clogged might that cause 02 sensor readings to be bad? I don't know. I long for the days when we didn't have cats and 02 sensors, but I suppose they will never return.....unless I go electric.

    • @TruLuvin84
      @TruLuvin84 2 года назад

      Well auto supply did the check engine light check & at first it said O2 sensors, so did the O2 sensors & then it said it was 2 specific coil packs, so did those. It had the power back but still a little smoke so was driving it about two blocks away & it threw a rod right before turning into the auto supply place, so now I need a dang on motor. My friend that works on cars asked me what was I doing with a used motor in my flex & I said what? He said the markings on the motor are like when you get a used motor from a junk yard. I never put a motor in my flex. Contacted Car Max & of course they’re giving me the run around about probably can’t pull up where they bought it from. Daughter’s dad told me a few weeks ago the salesman told him it was a rental car before they got it. But they didn’t tell me the one buying it. It only had 10,056 miles supposedly when I bought it but if it was a used motor, no telling how many miles it really had. I have never blown a motor in any of my cars.

      Dark Grey smoke shouldn't indicate headgasket. White sweet smoke does, and lots of it. Dark Grey or black sounds like a full filter issue or possibly fuel injector issues to a plethora nore involving the gas itself. However blue smoke= oil white smoke = headgasket, condensation. Grey/black smoke. Something bad probably. Lmao. I don't know a whole bunch but hope that helps. " yup, the engine certainly looks like an engine." 😅🤣

    You can add this one to the list: the fuel pressure regulator. If this goes out and stays in the open position, your engine will be flooded with fuel (as in it is running too rich) and cause white smoke to come out of the tailpipe. Expect a noticeable decrease in fuel economy and for the car to quickly sputter out and not want to start (or start and run very poorly) after a day or two.

    • @Mit_Reklaw
      @Mit_Reklaw Год назад +2

      Will a stuck open injector cause white smoke too?

    • @Russell-rc6qq
      @Russell-rc6qq Год назад +3

      @@Mit_Reklaw It can, yes. Like with the fuel pressure regulator staying open, a stuck open fuel injector will eventually allow excess fuel into the combustion chamber and cause the engine to run rich. A bad fuel injector can also lead to engine overheating so it is something you want to get taken care of fairly quickly if that is in fact what's gone out.

      I thought a stuck-open injector would cause it to smoke black. Would a bad fuel regulator also cause it to run hot? Ive checked my injectors and are not stuck open. Replaced my fuel pump and having same issues. Vehicle turns on but cranks a few times before it does. It doesn't really get hot but i notice coolant level gets low...

    Another way to check for a worn block or piston rings is adding Lucas heavy oil stabilizer to your engine oil and let the engine warm up if the smoke goes away and your engine harmonizes out and starts running better it may be time for a rebuild I did this with my 76 f150 and started yelling about it for a while when it ran smooth and the smoke went away

    white smoke doesn't always mean bad head gasket/cracked block or head. It may be condensation as he said but most description say after car is fully warmed up it should disappear.. not always the case some cars just have a light thin white smoke every time on colder days.
    My 04 BMW M3 I noticed a thin white smoke and it was more apparent when I went catless during cold weather season. and it doesn't go away. looked at atleast 10 other videos of same car with exhaust videos and they all do it. doesn't lose any coolant level either so I figured combustion + cooler weather when those hot gasses comes out they produce steam and makes em smoke/spit a bit of water in your tail pipe.

    White smoke can also be from stuck open injectors. I had this and watching all the videos thought is was coolant but it wasn't. Two of my injectors were dumping fuel and it must have been going straight into the exhaust and also into my engine oil. My engine oil was full of gas and I changed the oil and replaced the two injectors. I did crank this car over a lot and run it trying to figure things out and all that time I was dumping fuel. So I think hot fuel vaporizes and comes out the exhaust pipe as white putrid smoke. Other video's attest to this.

    You are definitely spot on because I already knew that my CO2 sensor needed to be replaced and the check engine light has been on for almost 2 years and I knew the whole time, that's exactly what it was but it just now started to really cause problems with using a lot of fuel, the Gray smoke, rough idling, Etc but I would say the biggest thing now is the stuttering, fuel consumption and the gray smoke if it has a gas smell to it. This tells me that I'm very lucky and blessed and I better hurry up and get this fixed and come up with the money any way possible and pray that I don't need a new catalytic converter because it's a 2005 Lexus ES330 and if I'm not mistaken, I've got like three or four catalytic converters on my car! I don't think they took apart the fuel injector but maybe just sprayed in cleaner. Just curious why their scan computer did not record it.

The problem seemed like it fixed. My mdx doesnt use alot of oil just did a tune up with new wires, ngk plugs. It ran fine. I stop at a cheap gas station and when I used there cheap gas it smokes white. Also is studded a little maybe foul filter needs replacing. Help please!!!!!

    Hello I have a question for you? I have an old reliable 2000 Toyota Camry XLE 2.2l four cylinder sedan. I bought it with 180k and do oil changes every 3k miles. I use straight synthetic 5-30. No service records on car. Except timing belts. Car is cutting out for a split second. No popping,or back firing. The cutting out does not seem like anything electrical. I do have a oil leak on cylinder one on the porcelain of the spark plug. I changed out the spark plugs and found this. Just ordered new valve cover gasket and spark plug oring seals. There no oil on the threads or electrode on the plug. I tend to run my gas in the tank till the yellow light in the dash comes on. But never got stuck,always was able to get to gas station. If I took it to a auto parts store and they put a scanner on the car would it show any possible problems if there are no check engine lights on in the dash? Fuel filter maybe under the hood? Any other possibilities? Thank you for your time and help in advance!! David

    Mine smoked a bit and stopped, then showed a stop sign later in the day and turned off, then started it again and took it home. Topped up the oil after a couple of hours because it was low, started it back on and it was alright, few minutes later it shows a check engine light and starts smoking(white/blueish). It says the depollution system is faulty, which usually means the fuel injector or fuel filter or pump. I completely changed the oil and replaced the filter but it still smokes and jerks, will open it up soon to look at the top gasket

    I have a dakota 2001 4.7 and it has a Poweraid air system added. I have been asking mechanics to tell me why I have SOME smoke out the tailpipe on occasion, but they all seem to want to diagnose it for $$$. I know about compression testing and Leak testing for Valves and Piston issues and the possibility, but this truck only smokes a very little and only when I'm doing short work (yard work) or when I put it in reverse. All videos talking about smoke don't specify that it has to be a LOT of smoke or a Little smoke to be valves of pistons. I am not wanting to put that kind of money if my problem isn't a problem. Does a Poweraid Air Boost create the potential for pockets of fuel to create white smoke? It doesn't smoke when idle, or on the highway or at stop signs...but it does when I sit for more than a couple minutes in park/stopped.
    I'm looking for the truth about this so I can be at peace. Grateful!!!

    Ugh.. this smoke in my car is driving me crazy.
    2017 Pathfinder with the VQ35DD engine smokes a little bit after start and then it's gone. However, sometimes when I am 5 to 10 mins into a drive, it will suddenly start smoking white very badly to the point where it's just a huge ball of smoke coming out of the exhaust.
    I changed the PCV valve, but it keeps doing it. I suspect the valve stem seals.
    The car is consuming a little bit of oil but nothing alarming. It doesn't seem to be consuming coolant.

    I have an 03 Camry that has one or two leaky valve guide seals. One thing I noticed with that problem, if I parked on a hill facing the front end down the hill and the car parked at an angle so the valve covers were sloped on the down hill but also to one side like the left side of the valve cover was on the down hill side, I got no puff of smoke in the morning. It was like, park on a slight hill with the font end sloping down hill and then jack the entire passenger side of the car up in the air about a foot. Maybe all it really would have taken was to jack up the passenger side of the car in the air about a foot to drain the oil to the left side of the valve train. I don't know. Maybe I just needed to park sloping the nose down the hill. It suggests to me that the passenger side seal or seals were leaky and with no oil covering the seal, none could leak through. That's my guess.

    I have a 87 Mustang 2.3 sometimes when I start the car up it smokes I honestly think I put to much oil in the car but lately I will get going up a hill in it just let's out a big cloud of smoke!! I don't understand the PVC valve it's a EFI motor but u can't get ur hand in there it looks like it runs from 1 hose then into another hose cause the PVC valve is up by the distributor in its like I said plugs into another hose that I don't know where it goes!!! The car has been running ruff new plugs distributor cap rotor I tried to set the timing 10 degrees btc but it doesn't want to take!! It will be running fine then when u like go to get on the highway it will spit sputter then just take off like a rocket!! Like it needed to burp even on regular street it will do the same thing if stop at a stop sign then pull it doesn't feel like it has power then it will kick in! It feels like TFI module maybe I can't find anything about a 2.3 1987 Mustang 4cyl it's 93 models in my car has a distributor not coil packs!!

    I have a 5.3 I recently rebuilt but before I got to run it and seat rings bad head gasket then other side bad gasket so fix that and started acting up with other problems like electrical so 1 cylindrical like #7 was plug was wet with oil and I was going to do valve guides but thought against it didn’t want to drop in to motor so now looked in with scope and pistons that were new looked bad like covered in brown junk then plugs fouling then I put injector cleaner into each cylinder but after I thought about rings. It seated I blew it out and helped but today smoking bad real bad wet oil plugs now what rings are stuck to pistons and won’t seat like that do I take it out and take apart clean it and reassemble or is ther away to seat rings now thsnks

    Some cars come with air/oil separators that can go bad causing for the engine to smoke. In this case, there's no oil blow by to the cylinders but oil is being allowed into the intake maninfold.
