Great, what a find and looks quite solid. They're Vanden Plas 1300 seats and door cards. The same steering wheel was used on the Austin & Morris 1300GTs which effectively replaced the Riley in late 1969.
Lovely car, pure class in a small package. Check to see if there is an ignition isolator switch as a security device, might just need turning on! Good luck!
Always a rare sight even back in the day , I owned one once and attended a BMC car gathering at Gaydon motor museum and there were maybe 50 or so cars there but only one Riley kestrel ! - mine.
That's a great number plate OAP. From what I remember ,with these motors, they were great until there was any moisture in the air then they could be troublesome. Living in Australia I had the Morris 1300 with auto trans. and if that thing even saw a puddle it would cut out.
I had one exactly the same color as yours I think it was a 1966 and I got it in 1984 lovely car had to renew the rear sub frame but apart from that little or no rust in it at all changed it for a citron 2CV must have been mad
I was taught to inspect the points on any SU fuel pump after a layup , and to use a rubber mallet in the field, to give a few taps to jolt it until the workshop .
I remember those fuel pumps on my very first car an Austin 1100, they would regularly stick, and a few short taps with a spanner would normally resolve it.
My dad had a new one in 1969. I was a young driver myself and ‘borrowed’ it one evening. Showing off to my friends I drove too fast and wrote it off, about 100 yards from my parents flat above a shop they owned. It took some explaining…
I think your Riley might be ready for retirement, looking at the number plate! Good luck getting this car back to living again, it certainly looks like a challenge! They were one of the prettier of the badge engineered 1100/1300 BMC's, and the front looks complete too ...
It’s exactly the same as the Vanden Plas, slightly different shape to the top of the grill, the same interior including the rear drop down tables, but different steering wheel. Plus some fancy chrome stripe effect on the front. BL badge engineering at its best! My parents had the VP when I was a teenager and I hated the thing but they thought it was posh. For comparison my next door neighbour had a new Reliant Scimitar, somewhat posher!
The 1300 Kestrel was also the last ever Riley. It's possible that it started life as an automatic, hence the engine swap. The twin carb 1275's were once highly prized engine donors for Minis - I burgled a few for the engines alas. Sorry.
I see the door liners and Wood veneered cappings are probably from a VDP 1100/1300.Shame it doesn't have the original engine wth the Cooper s cylinder head and Twin Su's that was fitted! I had had a Wolseley 1300 lovely smooth car but these ADO 16s rotted for England..
Another rare of British Leyland (Austin) vanden plas 1300 they did all sorts of models basically it's a mini A+ engine like the metro I've had a few years ago but im a experienced welder fabricatior so im lucky looks a good car just hope its not rotten under neath like every old model normal are but parts you can find and easy to work on even if it's not for you car most parts will fit good luck to you worth saving 🙂
The numberplate: OAP. For a car to be so old, it IS an O.A.P! I'm so glad you didn't do the stupid thing people do these days, and BLUR the numberplate, so no-one can identify it! Why are people so paranoid nowadays?
"The suspension is all a bit drum and bass at the moment" caused coffee to come out my nose. I'm still laughing. Thanks lad.
Good luck with the Riley, the best of the range worth all the effort. Bob
Only seen 2 on the road in my 50 years , great find! I'd take a couple of the kitties too to keep the mice at bay

Thanks for the info!
What a find Alex. It was fun to watch this first stage in getting it started. You've got some nice fleet cars now.
Oh wow Alex this was my first car love 😍. I absolutely adore the Kestrel.
Lovely car, pure class in a small package.

Good luck!

Best of luck with the new project 👍
Thanks
That N° plate,lol.thanks mate.
Mine was two tone green with a cream roof. 1300 twin carb. Green leather interior. Wish I could find an other one like it.
I had one exactly the same color as yours I think it was a 1966 and I got it in 1984 lovely car had to renew the rear sub frame but apart from that little or no rust in it at all changed it for a citron 2CV must have been mad
Don't see many of those anymore. I look forward to seeing how you get on!
Definitely worth restoring. Its not too far gone , and its a rare car nowadays.
Jolly well Done looking forward to seeing this 🎉

I had one of these it was a great car we went to Cornwall in it . I only changed for a 1800.

I remember the sound of cars like this in winter when they wouldn’t start
One to look forward to 😎
My grandad had the real proper kestrel a magnificent car by all accounts this is bl kestrel
That engine bay was purring nicely for a little while 😂
LOL!

Good luck with this project Alex. I only hope rust isn’t too prevalent on the Riley, having owned a few of these great cars.
Plan to throughly inspect it when its home!.
Awesome car. Can't wait to see it running. Whoever cut a hole in the glovebox lid needs serious talking to. 😶
Thankks fella. Luckily theres a spare dash included with a decent glovebox lid :)
I think it's been resprayed, in that nice dark colour. The inside of the bonnet lid is BEIGE!

The MG was still available at the time ! And probably a Wolseley…..
This wasn't released here , in Australia looking forward to seeing the differences
An excellent video. We had a good feeling about it from the very beginning. Do the cats come with the car? 🐈 🐈 🐈🐈⬛
Yes they do lol ;)

Sorry mate but I couldn't stop laughing as soon as I saw your face, you should be in comedy.
Umm thanks, I think lol :D

if you have a spare distributor, for the allegro fit that, and test the LT circuit, the system should be the same, if your not getting any spark,
Exactly what i intend :)
1100 club join it
I thought the kestral was the model based on the mini ?
No, it shared the same engine but the body was essentially that of the 1100/1300
I think you mean the RIley elf.
That's the one ,thanks for that the wolseley was the hornet.i think
@@alanoliver2197 They both had a stick out boot and the Wolseley Hornet had the grill "Wolseley badge" light up when the side lights were on.
And on that farm he had a car, with a splutter here and a splutter there can he make it go.
They were ALL the same 1100 Austin/Morris..some with different badges and trim...cynical marketing
Quite rare but not a true riley just more badge engineered nonsence the last true roley was the 1950a Pathfinder
