Alex - the spare dash isn’t the same as one fitted which means glove box lid won’t fit. It’s a vanden plas dash. Also the back seat base is vanden plas as is the seats in the car and door cards and wood door cappings is vp. The Riley didn’t have wooden door cappings or the seats currently fitted. The dash and steering wheel is correct that’s fitted.also the wiring added for the interior lights is vanden plas not Riley. Riley has one light on top of b pillar on drivers side. Also o suspect the headling pillar / trim you have in bin bag is vanden plas too. Regarding starting when you was doing it the other day I didn’t hear the electric fuel pump in the boot prime. I’d check that first.
Thank you, yes I realised that about the glovebox lid after having another look. I suspected the interior may have been swapped out. Im not too fussed, I'm off work next week so going to have a proper investigation!
Wow! That Electrolux vacuum cleaner. My parents bought one of those, in green, in1963, and used it continuously until 1983, when my aunt took it over for another few years. Quality products! Love the Kestrel. I'm guessing the interior is from a Vanden Plas. I don't think the Kestrel had picnic tables, of course I could be wrong. Also the spare dash is from a Vanden Plas, which might explain the seats. Anyway, enjoying seeing this one getting another chance. Best of luck.
I had forgotten how awesome these cars are, a rare sight these days! Using the leather from the spare seat squab to repair the fronts is a good idea - the leather will match & is of a superior quality to modern leather that has a plastic coating applied. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely little car, my father bought one about 2 years old when he retired. I had an MGB and I used to borrow it when I needed the extra space. Lovely sweet little engine and pleasantly plusher than the basic Austin/Morris versions.
An improvement already Alex! Lots of work needed, and yes I believe that is the original colour! When I was in my teens someone living nearby had a 1968 Beige and Brown Duo-Tone Riley Kestral at the same time as I owned my Wolseley 1300.Good luck with the restoration👍
Loving the new arrival Alex! That little Riley looks like a very solid prospect to be on the road without too much fuss. I was glad to see the Hydragas took full pressure without instantly springing leaks from rusted pipes. It saddens me when folk do things like hacking a radio hole in the glovebox lid. It's not like that's even a good place to put it!
A man with a 1960's Electrolux cylinder vacuum cleaner. And a cool Riley. That dash is from a Van den Plas as well as the seats. Good luck. By the way what happened to Sparky the Allegro? I was quite lucky by picking up a battery for a Honda Civic which might be perfect for my Super Snipe for nothing, after asking a gentleman who seems to break cars if he wanted it! Now to try and get the Snipe working again.
Lovely Kestrel. I'm guessing the colour is "Fuscous Brown". Shame about the cutout for the radio. I have the same sized dash and parcel shelf in my 1972 Austin 1300 Super Deluxe and easily mounted a radio in the parcel shelf area. Looking forward to more videos of this car.
Hi alex, hope your keeping well. How's George coming on. Well you have done it again. My eyes life up seeing your latest buy. Really looking forward to this one. Love longer videos can't you just cut less out. We need more Alex my friend. An hour video
Fantastic idea, but i'm not sure many would watch me for that long lol! George is fine, and i will be taking him to the british motor museum next weekend :)
Definitely Vanden Plas Princess seating and door cards, but the installed dash and wheel are correct for an early Kestrel 1300 (later Kestrels had the same layout, but the wood was a darker walnut, if I recall correctly. Too bad that the spare dash is also for a Vanden Plas Princess - most likely out of the same donor car that provided the seats and door cards. That hole in the glove box was cut by some idiot to fit a radio.
Beautiful looking car, cleaned up well. Very dark brown colour, hope you can find a match for any visible areas that need touching up Hopefully you can tame the electronic ignition (or return the car to traditional points) to get it running again. Have you booked a welding course yet, sounds like you might have quite a bit of welding to do on this car! Does the inside of the roof need rust treatment before you source a head lining? Are you planning to get the wood parts into your house so they can dry - I'm wondering if the wood has swollen a little as the weather has got a bit less dry
You should ask people in comments if they would like longer videos. You should have more confidence because your channel is great I'd but you in the same mould as tasty classics so please consider it
It's not just a Riley badge - it's got a Riley bonnet, grill, front panel, dash, steering wheel, and Riley original colour. I would bet on it being a genuine Riley that's had a VDP interior transplant.
Great video. A very lucky man. I had contacted the seller and it had just soldI was going to travel from NI, take home and restore it, I mean restore not to sell, but to keep and use. Sure is a very beautiful little car. Congratulations on the purchase, stay safe and enjoy.
Wow, Alex, lovely Riley kestrel and also the really old kettle You made your tea with that was cool and then a classic Electrolux Hoover to boot❤
Thanks so much!
I'm in RETRO HEAVEN!
I had an ‘H’ reg Riley 1300 Mk2, the later version of your Kestrel, back in the early 90’s. Twin carbs, quite fast.

Pumps definately working, and fuel is getting to the carb.
Lovely old girl. Like the oap on the number plate..
It's looking so much better already! Looking forward to seeing the progress with this one 👍
Beauty Alex good uponya from Australia
Looks like a very good project. Good luck Alex. Bob

Bonus points for using a period correct vacuum cleaner!
An Electrolux ZA65, to be precise.
We had one of those. I must have gave it away, as it never died
Hey, that's startig to look alright! Welld one! PS: Love the kettle

Thankyou, yes the electrolux is in weekly use. I also own a Hoover junior which is from the 70s. Thanks for your kind words!
I think the Riley is the best looking of the ADO16s…. Good luck with that project Alex.
Thanks matey!
Wicked, that`s starting to look really nice, best of luck Alex.
Nice one Alex.
In 1982 at the age if 18 - my first car was a Riley Kestrel. U loved that car with all its qwerks.
Hi. That is an appropriate number plate for the car. 😊 Looks a lot better than the Tasty Classics 1300.
I had forgotten how awesome these cars are, a rare sight these days!

Your channel is fantastic Alex, I really enjoy your videos! You are naturally witty as well which makes the videos even more enjoyable! 😂
Wow, thank you!
@@AllThingsAlex please keep the videos coming 🚗
Love the period vacuum cleaner! Better than a Dyson!!
It really is!
Another superb video. I look forward to more, too. Loved the car, the kettle, and the Electrolux. What excellent taste you have. Cheers.

She looks so much better now Alex and i'm glad the suspension still holds
Thanks for sharing the vid mate. Bloody good of you x
@@AllThingsAlex It's a super cool car I just had to.
Awesome. Loving the new addition
Glad you like it!

Non-standard interior Alex, from a VDP. It doesn't do it any favours but a great car nonetheless! Greetings from Australia.
Fantastic. Great looking car. Is that a swan electric kettle? We had one in the 80s 😂

Good reg OAP 😂
Seems to have a lot of vanden plas princess parts seats door cards the spare dash is is a vandy one as well
Was it originally a claret /burgundy colour?
Great vid!

Have a look under the car rust is big thing on rear subframe floors I use to break these cars in the 70s 80s.
Is the colour of the Riley that dark chocolate brown that used to be used on Austin Westminsters?
Appropriate reg OAP old aged pensioner good luck on resto from New Zealand
The colour is original and is called Faun Brown. Note the spelling…it’s not fawn brown.

What was the wolsesley ado16 called
I think it was just Wolseley 1100
Probably a pair of numbers with a slash in between, denoting engine size and power e.g. 13/70 ?
But how does it smell?
Like grandmas laundry bag lol
Its a interesting car but its not a riley its just got a riley badge. My grandad had a proper kestrel and it was a work of art. This is bmc bl
