basically she lived a life where she pretend to be okay even though she got her village burned down from a friend. she was the only one left in her family so they took her to the orphanage. people told her to not think about what happened to fit in. But through all the memories that have been lost and all the faces before the tragic even that are lost she still knows the words to a happy song to make herself feel better. At least that’s what i interpreted..... if so this song is kinda sad

And the background lore here, is that Pinkie has resurrected her parents as foals, and she is now raising them as her own. However, since witchcraft is illegal, she has to keep it a secret that she is raising her own parents. Hense her slip. She really sings this song to her parents/children.
This version of Pinkie Pie grew up in an orphanage, and barely knew her parents.
She had a really bad foalhood. Whatever she really is a gypsy/romani is never confirmed, but she got obsessed with it.

i used to wonder about the chronology of this song, since if her parents sang it to her, she would be aware of her Romani heritage, but she wasn’t in the first episode. But her slip up of “Wanna hear the song I sing to my parents” made me realize that she really DID sing it to her parents, since she had brought her parents back as children with the portal from Pinkie’s Brew, and so she sang it to them after accidentally turning herself into their single mother. The writing in this series ties back to itself, it’s so great.

Hello. I do not know if anyone will see this, or even the creator but I must thank the creator so much. You see, this song has brought me strength throughout immense hardship because of it's moral: Keeping strength, silliness and love through sorrow. You see, I started watching MLP when it came out when I was about five, two years later at seven terrible abuse and trauma started. When I was anywhere from 8 to ten, I found this song. It resonated deep in me, and I sang it in my head and listened to it after/during abusive events. I believe this song, is one core reason why I am still here today, and that I've kept my silliness, my light, my happiness. I was recently diagnosed with Severe PTSD and I am still in this abusive household, although the physical abuse stopped last October (October 2019.) My caseworker is doing nothing and instead texting my mother like they are besties and not even asking about accused abuse (I know this as I read the text thread) but I am still keeping hope. So THANK YOU. THANK YOU 1000 TIMES OVER. I cannot express how much love I feel for you, right now. Thank you. You have quite literally saved a person's life.
