Beijing Daxing Airport: the biggest single terminal in the world, It is also the most beautiful!

- I was really looking forward to landing and taking off from the incredible Beijing Daxing International Airport, designed by my favorite architect ever: Zaha Hadid!
This is a quick tour around the world’s biggest single terminal airport
Beijing Daxing International Airport located on the border of Beijing and Langfang, Hebei Province, is Beijing's second international airport. It has been nicknamed "the starfish". It was completed on June 30, 2019, and began operations on September 26, 2019.
The airport is 46 kilometres (29 mi) south of Tiananmen Square, 26 kilometres (16 mi) west of downtown Langfang, 50 kilometres (31 mi) northeast of Xiong'an New Area, and 65 kilometres (40 mi) south of Beijing Capital International Airport, and serves Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. It is a hub for SkyTeam alliance airlines and some Oneworld members, while most Star Alliance members have remained at Beijing Capital International, as has Hainan Airlines.
After almost five years of construction, the CN¥ 80 billion (US$11.4 billion) facility features a 700,000 m2 (7,500,000 sq ft) terminal, the world's largest single-building airport terminal, and sits on 47 km2 (18 sq mi) of land.

@@thethe1430 Hi, haha thanks I'm still learning the algorithm of RUclips 🤭 and it takes some time but it's ok since I'm only here for less than a year. I just think as the majority is able to speak and understand English I can show it to a bigger audience but was also thinking to make maybe some special german episodes in between. It sure would be more of a niche. Thanks for your thoughts ☺️

This, among a whole lot of other marvelous things, is a symbol of Chinese glory in this century.
The reason why they build another airport near Beijing is that the original Beijing airport is over-capacity. It was designed to serve 80million passengers and ended up with 140million. It shows how great China planned it way ahead of time. They expect to serve 80million passengers for each airport soon. (The total number of passengers will almost equal for Beijing area, Shanghai area, and Guangdong area eventually).
In contrast, the Uk has spent almost 2 decades deciding whether to build a new single lane runway.
@@BygoneChina Heard from one youtuber that Great Britain is no longer great anymore. Guess "to be or not to be" or "to build or not to build" will always be a deciding factor in UK and also many countries. Hence progress is slow and sluggish as compared to China, who is now progressing is by leaps and bounds.

This airport is a modern masterpiece. There is no other airport to rival this one for a very long time.

here in NEW Zeland, it has been 3 years since we started building a supermarket and it is only 50% finished.....yes..just a supermarket....
This airport makes all other airports look antiquated.
Los aeropuertos chinos son siempre bien diseñados y tienen la última tecnología. Se nota mucho la diferencia con otros paises. Hace dos años tuve que usar cuatro veces el Charles De Gaulle de Paris y sinceramente es un verdadero "castigo". Le han hecho ampliaciones que no se integran correctamente y quedan como remiendos.
Tiene varios mostradores de informaciones pero las empleadas carecen de los datos necesarios para orientar a los pasajeros en ese laberinto que ni ellas mismas conocen.
El nuevo de Beijing diseñado por el genio de Zaha Hadid ed una maravilla.

How lucky are you. I am planning to go back to GZ, but transfer in BJ. Then I can visit the airport and enjoy some BJ restaurants. Can't wait the travel restrictions to be lifted.

You're right, none of the US airports are worthy of architectural recognition. At most, some are sufficient.

Beautiful infrastructure in China.
Because Beijing Capital airport is way over-capacity, they can't handle anymore volume. having two giant airports should serve beijing needs for the next 10 years then you might need a 3rd giant one at that point.
The other reason is Xiong'an New area. Beijing Captial airport is all the way in the northeast of Beijing. they need one south of beijing to serve both Beijing and Xiong'an.

Just some airlines move their hubs from BJ Capital to Daxing, like China Southern airlines and Xiamen Airlines, but Air China is still based in BJ capital. If the US flights are still going on, United will go to Capital, but Delta will go to Daxing.

Wasn't that impressed with Istanbul's new airport though, just one vast space with very little interesting architectural features or shops (very little well known international brands) and it takes ages to reach your terminal gate!

The main problem is that there is an excessive amount of red tape and needless debating in western nations - in the UK, we have spent over a decade debating whether or not to build a single runway - in the same time, Beijing alone has built two new airports!
@@BygoneChina You are exactly right and can you imagine all the money that has been trousered during these needless debates? It's meeting after meeting. In the UK, there is nothing for the good of the country, just for the good of the few.
