Great video as always I’ve been waiting for you to review more ruger products since your sr9 review can you do a review on a ruger American handgun it’s the sr9’s replacement.
We need an Honest Outlaw Plum Crazy Mod-A vid? I wonder what your views would be on an all polymer AR platform. I have a feeling i already know. Haha i wanna see you beat the shit out of it.
Having affordable options is always great. Even if you don't buy them, they help in keeping more expensive rifle makers accountable.
Agreed. Competition is a beautiful thing!
facts
Ruger has a reputation for making good quality affordable weapons.
Doubt it will change the prices of companies asking 3k+ for ARs
@@harpintnRuger is amazing! I bought a new Sig Sauer AR-15... after three shots, I packed it up. Maybe mine is a dud, but Ruger is always 100% ❤
I bought a Ruger 556 for my first rifle. Got it used for $399. It's still the only rifle i have and i absolutely love it. I have shot more expensive from my friends, but i feel zero desire to upgrade. I have a few friends with $1,000+ rifles that love my Ruger. I recommend it to everybody.
Ive owned a ruger ar556 for a few years and after a few thousand rounds ive never had a malfunction. Couldnt ask for a better rifle at that price
Yes! A versus video between Ruger and S&W would be great! I finally saved up enough money for an AR15 and struggling to make a decision between the two. Hope the vid comes out soon! Thanks for the video!
I own both I love my M&p sport 2 (been completely modified) it’s my favorite rifle by far however my bias aside dollar for dollar the ruger is better out of the box for one solid reason and that’s the barrel. It’s 1:8 twist vs the m&p 1:9 twist but that’s not a big deal considering I usually shoot 55-62 grain but the main thing is that the ruger is cold hammer forged and if you are wanting a rifle out the box under a grand get the ruger . I can’t wait to put a new geissle trigger and a new quadrail on it she’s gonna be sick. End conclusion I think both are amazing for the money.
You won’t go wrong either way. Make the call, you’ll be happy.
Two good choices! I have a Daniel Defense DDM4 and for what I do (occasional range day) it's pretty overkill and I'd be just as happy with a sport 2/ sport 3. Note: if you get a sport 3, S&W has a rebate for a free vortex red dot. If you can swing it, I recommend getting smith and wesson's ar15 grip. It's sooo much better than a regular A2 grip
@@daniel45-70 100 percent agree!
AATW 😎👌
Unless you're actually fighting with it, you'll be happy with either. Anything you don't like, you can just swap out after you've shot out the original part/s. Save your money for the optic, you can't upgrade that as-you-go like you can with the rifle.
A few years back , I picked up the Ruger AR556 and I just love it.
After a few mods , it's perfect for me. No issues and runs incredible....
Paid 640 out the door and spent another 400 or so on accessories .... fun little rifle.
Same here. I have an AR556 from Ruger that I got years ago and it's been nothing but fantastic. The thing has been 100% reliable and is accurate. I did a 36 yard or 50 yard zero, I can't remember, but I do remember being surprised that every single group I shot trying to zero it just using iron sights (That's all I had on the gun at the time) could be covered by a dime. For a sub 600 dollar gun, I was, and still am impressed by it. Of course over the years I've changed out all of the furniture, added a sight, light, added a better trigger, etc, but it's still just as awesome as when I got it. To me, the Ruger and S&W Sport series are some of the best price to performance ARs out there.
The Ruger 556 was my first firearm purchase! I overpaid for mine, but I love it and I've never had any issues with it.
I bought one of these rifles and it has been a fantastic buy for an “off the shelf” option!
I have the Ruger AR556 MPR, with the 18" barrel. I love it.
They are nice 😊
Same, its actually my favorite AR.
Strike EagleLPVO on mine and with good 62gr ammo it’ll shoot under an inch at 100yds. Even accurate with cheap steel case ammo. Need to keep the chamber lubed with CLR or similar with steel case’s though otherwise once in 100ish rds you’ll have a stuck case. I’ve got about 1500 rds through mine though and I love it. Just need to stick to brass cases for now. Might improve in time. But it’s the most accurate AR I’ve run into.
@@alanrawson-wg8io stop. 😊😄🦅🇺🇸🗽 you're going to make me have to go out and buy one.
@@stormlakebobcat9058 you and me both.
I've had my ruger MPR version of this for around 7 years, and thousands of rounds. Used it in training, for work, and for fun. I have had zero issues with it. I upgraded to a dual side 45* safety, and a Talon charge handle. I still use this when instructing LEO/MIL. Get a decent red dot for it and a sling, and you will be very pleased.
Glad to see regular AR-15s that work well and that common folks can actually purchase and use. Thanks again for your service to firearm owners of different financial means. I have a Colt 6920 that I enjoy slowly upgrading with upper line components to see what helps and what is just blowing cash on this platform. It also helps me with my limited experience and knowledge of this platform. I enjoy Glocks so much because they operate with a small number of parts and they are the only pistol I can comfortably dismantle completely and reassemble correctly including every part. I know that it’s very important to be able to repair anything that can happen to your own personal defensive firearm
Mrs. Outlaw rocking the fur coat and wood furniture AR is a vibe and we are here for it.
Great fit with a wooden AR15! 😂
Bought me a Ruger556 about 6mo ago and with a new rise arament trigger installed it's an insane rifle. I absolutely love it!
I've had an AR-556 since they came on the market. Mine is the one with the A2 sight
I've used 3 brands of magazines and sent a ton of ammo thru it . I've never had a problem that wasn't ammo related. Even steel case works thru it!! Thanks for the great videos!!
This will be (not only) my first AR, but my first rifle. This video helped make the decision. I had it in mind among a few others. I even considered their PC carbine, but now my mind is made up.
Bump it up to the mpr, slightly more, but the 5r barrel alone makes up for it. Not to mention the better furniture and upgraded trigger. If I was getting my first ar, that's what I would get now.
@@Afroninja52I agree. MPR 16.1" or 18", you can't go wrong with
I got a Ruger AR 556 as my first AR probably 10 years ago now and it’s been great. Seems like they’ve only improved them since then
This was my first AR-15 back in 2021. I put a longer handguard, new grip and stock. Solid rifle.
It's hard not to giggle when you shoot an AR ! The most priceless comment about shooting ever stated ! ICONIC !
My first ever ar15. I enjoyed it. Ran about 7k rounds through it the first year before I took it apart and rebuilt it around the barrel. I got it primarily because of price and CHF barrel. It got me addicted to rifle shooting and tactical classes. It’s a gateway drug to better blasters
My Ruger 556 is the first and only AR I own. It’s not fancy. It’s good quality. For 90% of new shooters (myself included) it’s a great starter AR.
Would you ever feel the need to upgrade? Looking into buying this as my first ar
@@TheBeanGreen, not who you’re asking but to be honest, imo, this isn’t that great of an AR. But to give credit to Ruger, the barrels are good quality, unfortunately that’s where it ends. Crappy milspec trigger that is gritty as all get out. BCG isn’t that great, well the one I have. And fitment between upper and lower is so sloppy if that is something that bothers you like it does me. IMO, the IWI Zion is a far far better first AR, only knock on it is that it doesn’t have a chrome lined barrel hammer forged barrel. But it’s still completely serviceable. Honestly in today’s world of A.R. 15’s, no matter which brand you get, it’s hard to find one that you’ll be able to out shoot.
@@TheBeanGreen I agree mostly with what the other guy said. I think it takes a LOT of practice before you start “out-shooting” most AR’s, even at this price range, these days. If you’re not going to be a hard-core shooter, this is perfectly serviceable. I like it. A lot of people do. I think it’s worth the money.
Same here got the 300 blk out model 16in n I don't plan on shorting the barrel I like it. Mike go for 13.7 pin n weld. If anything.Amazing quality.
That wood furniture looks amazing on that Ruger!
I have a Gen 1 AR556 that I just love. 8 years in without a hiccup. The rifle is stock with the exception of...got rid of the A2 sight by adding a gas block with a pic section and went with a flip up. Added a light. And a Romeo 5 dot. Shoots soft and accurate. Can't ask for more than that.
This and the M&P Sport III are amazing rifles to start out with on a budget, get good with, and upgrade to your desire and comfort to be something very usable and amazing.
Been trying to find comparisons of the two but no luck on youtube. Do you have experience with both? If so, do you mind sharing your opinion?
@batt3294 its basically a choice between coke and pepsi. Both are incredible and can be customized.
This was my first AR. Great quality for the price. I remember being new to ARs and a little overwhelmed but glad a gun manufacturer i trusted had an affordable option. I had a GP100 that needed warranty work and they stood behind their warranty no questions asked. A a year later, They had a good price on a 2 stage trigger, same thing- made it easy to experiment when the company that made the rifle sold it. The rifle is one I recommend to people dipping their feet into ARs. If I find the need for another basic AR, Ill probably go right to Ruger again.
Bro I really like that woox walnut. That’s dope. Never seen that before
I purchased AR556 in 2016. Vortex strikefire II ,rise armament trigger, lots of P-mags Lots of IMI AMMO. Does what I need. Not even scary black rifle anymore. KRYLON COMMANDO ACTIVATED. 🙀😺
two vids in a row of things i own, love to see it. i bought my ruger 556 in covid days, threw some different furniture on, some ambi stuff and a bad lever. still running great 4 years later
You can really see the recoil impulse when your little lady was shooting. Looks reeeealy good. That is a sweet gun and the furniture is PERFECT.
Baught the 556 MPR an the Pistol around 5 years ago. Thousands of rounds later. No issues. Fully confident in both.
Too bad they discontinued the Ruger AR pistols.
Your wife's combo with the leopard print muffs, fur jacket and wood AR is classy as hell. Love your videos
We call that "bougie" where I'm from 😏
One of the most tarded boomer guns I’ve ever seen.
Fallout Post-Irony Chic
She looks like a Bond KGB spy with the fur 😅 too cool.
If you get the MPR version, it comes with the Elite 452 trigger, which is awesome!
My dad gave me his ruger 556 he used as his duty weapon for over 20 years in law enforcement. That thing runs great. Though I think my dad found the heaviest quadrail ever for it, so might swap that out. But it is a FSB quad rail ar-15 which is definitely a cool aesthetic. I had an Aero build from Covid-19 times (who doesn’t?) I moved my lower with ambi controls over to the ruger 556 upper. Don’t know why but I get way more consistent groups out of that upper than the aero M4E1 upper I put together.
Edit: the rifle is over 12 years old, my dad’s career in law enforcement is much longer than 20 years.
This has been my AR for years. It's amazing!
No need to go elsewhere. They are well made and capable.
Ruger makes some solid firearms and their customer service is top notch.
I have the 556 pistol, the 556 outlaw is shooting, and I recently picked up the SFAR. every one of them is great. That Woox furniture looks fantastic, I might get myself a late Christmas present.
I just got this same Ruger a few months ago. I like it more than my Stag 15 , even though I have better sights on my Stag . I put a Primary Arms optics bundle they had on sale with the RD-25 , flip to side mount, and a 3× magnifier on the Ruger. It is awesome 👌
that wood furniture is sick! Friggen love it.
My first AR15 was a Ruger AR556 MPR with the 18 inch barrel and it was a pretty solid rifle. Now I just assemble my own rifles. Great video
I had a Ruger 556 I bought in 2016, I changed out the plastic handguard for a Leapers UTG Handguard, put in a BCM Gunfighter charge handle, swapped trigger for a Geissele SSA Trigger, topped off with a Bushnell 3200 Elite. This rifle shot tight 1 MOA groups, I'm sorry I sold it!
(^^) I've never sold or traded a gun that I didn't regret it. Which is why I stopped 😏
I have this very same AR (minus the woox furniture) and I absolutely love it, it’s the same model and manufacturer that I wanted so I didn’t have to settle for something else when I got to my gun store mine was actually the last one (of that particular model and manufacturer) that they had and it was in the back so it was destined to be mine haha, I don’t regret it at all I’ve been very pleased with it hasn’t failed me one time, the Ruger ARs to me are a good quality yet affordable AR rifle.
Ruger 556 was my first AR and frankly it’s my only. Never felt a need for another one. I’ve personalized the stock Ruger, so it’s everything I want or need in a modern sporting rifle which aren’t my passion when it comes to firearms in the first place.
Always love an Honest Outlaw vid. No bull, straight to the point, and great format/cinematography!
Woox Vigilante kit is absolutely beautiful. Perfect! Thanks for taking the time to share it and show it off.
Never thought I’d ever be a fan of wood furniture on an AR but I do have to admit it does give it a good amount of class and the modern look with it definitely a fan of it
I dig the new format. Keep it up. And a big HELL YES, for a heads to head battle between the Ruger and the S&W!
I got that one about a year ago and the reason why, it’s due the quality and affordability.
Nice piece of work Ruger reliable .223 & .556 ammo
This was my first AR. Pretty decent milspec trigger
This MPR has a nicer two stage trigger than the original AR556.
Had a Ruger MPR for years, great gun!!
I bought the MPR when it first came out. Had some issues with the BCG when I first got it but after a disassemble and a good soak in an ultra sonic cleaner it started working great. I still have an SR-556 as well.
Im not a big wood guy but that Woox kit looks really good!
Same. Don't think I could justify $600 for it but it definitely looks cool
I was really loving the wood until I heard the price. 😄
I mounted a Trijicon ACOG 4X32 to my Ruger AR556 and didn't have to adjust it! Perfect combination, made for each other.
Got back from shooting my new Rugger 5.56 and you dropped a video on it at the same time.
I shot it side by side with 5 other ar15’s or various quality levels. The Ruger shot was the smoothest shooter of the bunch. Trigger is the best out of the box… super impressed. Thanks for sharing buddy.
Is it not a mil spec trigger?
@blackghost1791 From what I'm reading from other people on here, it's apparently and upgraded trigger.
@@jasoncrutchfield4848 ah
Finally! Been waiting on one of the top guntubers to review the MPR.. It was my first rifle. Been solid so far
Ah, never mind, this is the standard version I believe. The MPR has Magpul funiture (stock and grip), the radial muzzle brake, and the 452 elite trigger. Oh well, still liked the review!
I was about to tell you Bro. This is definitely standard, love my MPR as well! It’s also B5 furniture not magpul 🍻
@@Tom_Sawyer_ Yeah I spoke too soon 😌. Mine came with Magpul funiture. Yours came with B5? Or are you saying you put B5 on yours?
@@Tom_Sawyer_ my mpr came w\ Magpul furniture.
@ I just checked the website, you must have the 18 inch barrel? They came with magpul as well as the .350 legend & 450 bush. I have the 16 inch model(8542) & that came with B5. Looks like we both learned something 🍻
If you liked that rifle get ahold of the Ruger AR556 MPR, 18" barrel, rifle length gas system with their enhanced trigger, you will hate the muzzle break, put a can on it.
Had one. Sold it. I like the standard 556 though. Spent the money on a Browning XBolt 7mm rem mag… much, MUCH better.
Appreciate the longer range work. Your new range will I’m sure will only get better and better.
Have had the pistol version for years now. Extremely reliable and pretty accurate too
Ruger had always put out pretty decent weapons going back to black powder days
What 1949?
That wood furniture on the rifle looks fabulous. More people should have them on their guns.
That woox kit is stunning. That's definitely going into the list for my next build.
Chris bro bubba is really stepping up his, hat's off to you bubba,so glad to see you as part of the team, amazing job 🎉
Grabbed ruger 556 right before the pdemic for $440 just to have an extra one. It’s been awesome. That wood is sweet!
I'd love to see a direct comparison with the S&W Sport, and also more videos on pistol and long gun suppressors.
I love this AR!! I have a scope on top zeroed at 100 yards and a red dot at a 45-degree angle zeroed at 15 yards for close-up shots. The trigger is outstanding!
Thanks for the review. Been kinda window shopping that R-15. Glad to see everyone likes it.
Dude! You just keep on getting better and better with every video... I was telling my wife about how I was drawn in the entire video! This will be my first AR platform! Thank you!
I love the new format, Chris. Please keep it up.
Everyone can enjoy an expensive well built AR but in my opinion a decent well built Sport 2 or 3 or a Ruger 556 just can’t be beat. You can put whatever upgrades on it and it just runs. Even that Sig 400 is decent affordable rifle
Mmmmm, the Volunteer series from Smith&Wesson looks even better than the M&P series. Even that Volunteer X in 308 looking like an m4 configuration 😊
Mine was super gassy and was not a fan of the trigger. After addressing that, I've got about 1,100 round through it this summer with no issues.
the 8514 is real nice, all Magpul, free float 18 inch barrel, their Elite 452 trigger.
Sweet! 💥💥💥 Happy Thanksgiving, brother!
Wow, I love the looks of that setup. That wood looks great and I'd bet it feels better when shooting.
Great video as always! 😎👍
My first AR15 was a Ruger 556 and the gun is as accurate and runs just as well as my Daniel Defense MK12, Colt M5 and Sig Rattler it just does look as cool
@@ArsenalAK47AZ I tell people to understand they are buying a 4X4 work truck, not a Ferrari. If not trying to win beauty contests it will get the job done..
Have a Blessed, Happy and Safe Thanksgiving Outlaws!
I purchased 3 sets Handle it grips and made sure to tell them I learned about them from you and mine are all the Edge series.
I'm sold on the WOOX look! Never would have known about it had it not been for this video! Thanks a bunch, and Happy Thanksgiving!
You always speak the truth thank you
One of my first rifles to shoot was ruger always solid always dependable.
I’ve had one for years now……very solid. I added a Bear Creek 18” heavy stainless side charger upper….it shoots super tight!
Wow, another Awesome review Chris, I loved ❤ everything about it, including the Family, hoping you All a Happy Thanksgiving !!! PS, I’ll be looking for my new Ruger .556 !!! 😊
THAT WOOD is a trip!
Well this might be my Christmas present to myself. The wood looks so nice on it.
My first and only AR. Love it so far. (Plus not banned in Maryland). Probably 500 rounds so far. Been considering wood furniture recently. Couldn't believe my eyes when this video posted right after I was looking up wood stocks.
I was happy to see the AR556 perform as I've experienced. I got mine (with the A2 pinned front sight/gas block) when they first came out for $475! I've since added a Radian ambi charge handle, safety, and flash hider/comp. Still waiting for my Banish 30 supressor. I put a 2 stage trigger on it also but don't even remember the brand. I tried it at a gun show and bought it but I think they are out of business now. It's an awesome rifle. Light, looks good, and best of all, works! I'm probably going to go for the Woox furniture too but will need to pull the A2 sight and install a regular gas block to make it work.
My first AR years ago...still shoots great
Man the walnut on that thing really does change the whole look. I need one.
Versus video sounds great. The new range looks great every time!
I grew up with quite a collection and my favorites were the AR-10 full auto, pre ban FN-FAL, and the Armalite AR-180
I like that your attitude towards Ruger is changing a little bit
Great review! I don't own a Ruger 556, but I am a Ruger enthusiast, and it's great to know that the 556 is a good gun.
You made me feel a lot better by showing how much effort you put into zeroing the gun!
I appreciate the longer ranges your shooting at. Thanks
The Versus video is going to a good watch. I'm wanting to buy an AR, so thanks for reviewing this. I'm interested in the full 1K review, as well. The wood furniture really brings it home for me.
I bought one of those with Magpul furniture and back up sights and a foregrip second hand for just under $700 a couple of years ago here near Orlando. I’ve got a Sig Romeo 5 on it too and I love it. I just wish I had a range longer than 100 meters closer to me. I have to drive well over an hour out into the boonies to find a 300+ range in Central Florida. I have very little experience with ARs so I didn’t want to drop over a grand on one for a first time buy. I don’t have an upscale experience to compare my Ruger to but so far, I’m not disappointed.
My ruger 556 is my only ar15. My only complant after 7 years was the takedown pins. Switched to some oversized pins to eliminate the slop.
Man that wood furniture is awesome! I've had a couple Ruger ARs, had great luck with them both.
Have always shot Ruger bolt action rifles and been Sig on everything else. Have loved the quality with such a great price on the Ruger semi auto rifles. Have the SFAR and love it, this AR556 is my next purchase for sure
I have one of these (stock furniture)....
ONLY malfunctions ive had are F.2.E... when i had a brass catcher attached and it got in the way of the ejection port.
Im in Jersey, so the price tag was considerably higher (nearly $1k)...
And i added about $500 in accessories:
- HS red dot + 3x magnifier ($385)
- Mlok AFG ($25)
- cheap Amazon Bi-pod setup ($35)
- MBUS 3 "iron sights" ($115)
Thank you for this review! I've been waiting since I saw one my first time. Next on my wishlist!
I bought my first AR and it was the Ruger 556. And it was not feeding ammo correctly. I put my neighbors bcg in it and that fixed it so I just bought another bcg and it's been fine ever since. Good for your first AR I guess.
Have mercy, I bet that was an expensive fix to a brand new rifle that likely only needed an extractor spring, gas rings, or different weight buffer. A new bolt would be overkill, but a whole new decent quality bcg is $100 bare minimum added onto a $600 rifle.
I am not an AR fan, but I am a Ruger fan. Love the performance the AR556 showed.
