Ever since gen 9 came out I have been super confused as to why Tinkatink isn't a Baby Pokemon when it's literally a baby with a metal club that looks like a baby rattle
Same with Toxel.
Seems like Baby Pokémon as a whole concept are dying out, but only getting referenced in design.
Edit: Toxel actually is a Baby Pokémon. I don't know what to think anymore.

I really like how the plus ability is given to stakitt and the minus ability to procion. My personal head canon is that stakitt relies on its parent procion to survive when it’s young before it grows up into a procion and becomes a parent itself.
Then the child distances themself, because of their independence and both of them having minus ability... Kinda sad actually

Baby forms can allow some late-game Pokemon to be accessible in the earlier routes of the game. For example, snorlax, sudowoodo and chansey are usually mid-to-late game encounters, but in USUM, happiny, bonsly and munchlax can be found really early, around route 1. Or mime jr. can be found in the first city in Alola while Mr.mime is way too powerful for that stage. If baby pokemon are used efficiently, they can enrich the roaster of a route and provide players with a great number of options early on.

Barely started watching this vid, but I'd like to say that baby mons in terms of worldbuilding and player experience are excellent. I do not care if they are weak, I want to see my critters grow as the game progresses ‼️
They're good for mons that already look finished, lile skarmory, tropius..., but in the end they need to remove the frendship mechanic if they wanna add others. It's just annoying
How do they improve player experience in any way

another thing that can justify a baby pokemon is the rarity of the line itself.
while pokemon like pikachu, clefairy and jigglypuff definitely did not need a baby form because they were common and the line was already weak other baby lines (especially in later generations) made it so that their babies made sense to be babies:
Lucario, Snorlax, chancy, Magmar, Eletrabuzz, Togekiss Wobbafett. these are all rare species of pokemon you won't usually find in the wild (or at least early in the wild) so them getting a baby form now allows these guys to be used earlier in the game and to be found easier in general.
if gamefreak ever want to rework baby Pokémon, perhaps they could put more focus on raising the baby. Perhaps while it’s still a baby, it’s stats and ability are yet to be decided and depending on how the player treats them, they could decide on what those are going to be. Maybe there could be some special reward for raising a Pokémon from a baby to it’s final evolution
They could make every first stage Pokemon with baby appearances into baby Pokemon and they have an option to be evolved via friendship/affection. Then, the evolution can have better stats or even abilities.

Look. This is cool, but people play Pokémon competitively. This sounds like a veritable nightmare if you want to use say togekiss or Lucario.

They kinda took this approach with tyrogue and its something id love to see tried again!
I feel like the in game purpose of introducing some of the new baby pokémon is for availability. Since some pokémon that are strong or at least too strong for the early game, such as snorlax, roselia, and electabuzz got baby forms so that you can use them during the early game.

Honestly, I had no idea that "baby pokemon" was a distinct category in the game? I just thought certain pre-evolutions were perceived as babies by the community because of their design.
I also didn't know the incense thing until pretty recently though.
to me the one of the uses of baby pokemon (specifically when added to existing pokemon) is to make certain pokemon available earlier in the game without being unbalanced. they don't always do it like that though, and when they were first added you couldn't even get them without breeding so that probably wasn't the original intention
In some cases breeding can give a pokemon access to moves it wouldn't normally have (egg moves), and not sure how many baby pokemon this actually applies to but some could have differing learnsets than their evolutions, so don't necessarily have to be weaker with no upside
EVERYTHING was going on in the original Echo game, man. Aliens, time travel, psychic powers... you get am echolocation that can blow up aliens.

My major guess is baby pokemon were made to round out pokemon evolutions like roselia looked like it was designed as a middle stage so budew was created to round out the line while also allowing it to be placed earlier in games.

Instead of having a breeding mechanic or a catching mechanic what if you find elements of the periodic table as well as animal parts out in the wild or as drops from the Fakemon you fight and you could literally use a recipe of these items to create any of the Fakemon in the world and you could give them better stats by play chemistry set mini games similar to Cooking Mama to give them better stats depending on how good you do at the mini games and maybe if you don't want the player to get too powerful Fakemon too early maybe you could make certain Pokemon unavailable depending on the players level or have much more rare recipe items that can only be found later in the game

I started playing Black 2 recently and I have a Riolu called Goku, so now whenever I see a Riolu I say “hey it’s me Goku”. Anyway, that’s what I said as soon as I saw the thumbnail

Maybe a Steel/Flying Wind turbine, a Steel/Water Hydroelectric generator, a Steel/Fire Geothermal energy plant, or a Steel (or Fire)/Grass Biofuel plant.
(Or maybe make them all electric, not sure...)
STAKITT IS SO ADORABLE
How post-gen prevos should function is as a stepping stone for later-game pokémon that are included in the early game so that their stats are balanced for that portion. The best examples I can think of is Magby and Elekid in BW2, or maybe Munchlax in PLA
