The lot is an old mining warehouse, it has been used in the early 1800s when the town was shaped and stayed active until the world wars, it got abandoned after that slowly crumbling until the city decided to demolish it and sell the land. The land then got bought by some investors that are wanting to build a modern mix zoning shop and apartment building. They started building there, until the city stopped them due to missing permits. Ever since it has been a back and forth, the project being on a hold for a few years now
Im in love with this series. Very good job. To answer your question with the tracks and the foliage. As far as i know, they cut back the bigger bushes from the tracks, specially during summer or dry season, as the trains can produce sparks which in term can cause smaller bush fires which can expand quickly and become dangerous. Also, cant wait for the next episode *.*
for that little empty lot, my town (admittedly a rainforest town, not great lakes lol) had a bowling alley in what used to be a fairly lively sub-area of downtown, but it burned down, and all the stuff used to tear it down was just left there for years as the area became more industrial (logging, specifically). it was used as storage for logging equipment for awhile, and i knew a girl who lived in one of the trucks. but in the last couple years weve been rebounding a bit, theres a baseball field there now!

I like the idea that the empty lot was is a burnt down warehouse, the lot was cleared for a new development but the company that wanted to build there went under and then the property kept changing ownership until it was just left there construction equipment and all... (p.s. I was literally coming up with this as you were coming up with ideas in the video XD likeminded I guess)
Just a suggestion, as someone who grew up Canada adjacent in the 90’s before it became harder to cross the border, I think it’d be cool to show where it used to be more blended on the industrial side a la Cornwall and Massena or even Rock Island/Derby Line where an actual town was shut off from its other half
I might get cities 2 because of how easy it looks to detail and everything looks so much better, sometime down the road I would love to see like a junkyard along the rail tracks in that industrial area, or like a tire yard
Idea for empty lot; The lot is/was owned by a founding member of the city. Back in the earliest days of the city, this person built up a shop in anticipation of a town flourishing at such a convenient stop by the rain tracks. He bought up large parcels of land in hopes that investors would want to buy pieces of it for development towards this anticipated town. Unfortunately though, through the years the city began to develop its core streets away from his shop, possibly because of how pricy he was trying to sell his land at. Because of his reluctance to sell at a lower price, the street his shop once rested on has become a dead end industrial street with little to no land value, especially in contrast to the more up and coming streets in the downtown core. He eventually went bankrupt and moved away, with his last remaining lot that once housed his shop now sitting vacant waiting to be auctioned off by the city. Inspiration for this comes from my hometown of Armstrong BC. Back when the railway was being built across Canada, prospectors bought up land where they anticipated the town to be built. Given how expensive it was however, the railway bought land further away, which now is where the city of Armstrong rests. You can see the original planned settlement of “Lansdowne”, just outside of town. It’s become a small suburb, but holds little value whatsoever nowadays compared to the actual city. Love the videos and this series! Keep up the great content
For inspiration, I think you should check out Peterborough Ontario! Specifically, Lansdowne Street for a large commercial avenue, Water Street and George Street for a more historical downtown vibe, and the General Mills factory overlooking the Otonabee River on Hunter Street. Peterborough also has Trent University and Fleming College which may be useful to look at in the future for Ontario academic institutions. Another good place to look at for Industrial would be the Ingredion Factory in Cardinal, ON along the St. Lawrence River.
dude... seriously good video! i don't get alot of extra time from work to watch content anymore, but i completely agree the "podcast" style of city-builders are my favorite as well. in terms of build ideas, i'd love to see a cute little "old factory/work town" neighborhood built around a small creek, lovingly named Otter's Creek. also, an old junkyard (organic, cars, or trash) would be really fitting for this warehouse/industrial district.
@@Oddhur odddhurrrrr thank you so heckin much and holy heck do I love the idea of this plus otter creek totally sounds like a realistic small town in Ontario! It might be a bit before I get to expanding to the small towns but this has been added to my list
In the small town of Port Moose, Ontario, the story of Terry and his dream is a local legend. Terry had lived in Port Moose his entire life, never venturing beyond its borders. He was known for working odd jobs around town and living with his mother, a retired nurse who relied on a modest pension. Terry's true passion, however, was fishing. He spent countless hours dreaming of opening his own fishing store, Terry's Bait & Tackle, where he could share his love for the sport with others.
In the evenings, Terry was a regular at the local bar, where he played pool and tried his luck at Keno, a lottery game. One fateful night, his persistence paid off-Terry won the lottery, a jackpot of several million dollars. Ecstatic, he immediately bought everyone at the bar a round of beers, though he had to put it on a tab because his winnings hadn't come through yet.
With his newfound wealth, Terry set out to make his dream a reality. He purchased a lot in the industrial area of Port Moose and began the process of building his store. As time went on, his vision for the store grew more ambitious. He secured a permit for a six-story mass timber building, which would not only house Terry's Bait & Tackle but also feature a fishing-themed diner on the ground floor. Terry hoped the diner would become a popular spot for local workers to grab breakfast or lunch.
Determined to be hands-on in every aspect of the project, Terry even bought his own crane and took courses to learn how to operate it. However, as construction progressed, Terry's funds dwindled faster than he anticipated. When the bank refused to grant him a loan, he was forced to declare bankruptcy, and construction on the building came to a halt.
Not long after, Terry mysteriously disappeared. The partially built structure, with its towering crane, was left abandoned. The local municipality, short on resources and staff, never ordered the crane to be dismantled. Over time, the crane became a symbol of Terry's dream and his enduring presence in the town. Some locals believe that on misty mornings, if you look out over the lake, you can still see Terry fishing, a reminder of the man who dared to dream big in Port Moose.
You should name something after Henry Schoolcraft. He was a geologist, geographer and ethnologist from in Michigan and named many cities and counties with words that he thought sounded indigenous like Alcona, Algoma, Alpena, Iosco, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Lenawee, and Oscoda. Just some funny history of Michigan.
I know at least in my neck of the woods, some roads are named after the cities that they connect. So for example a road connecting Port moose and Hamilton will be called Port moose-Hamilton road.
hi you should remove the white lines from the road and remove the dirt from the road in certain places to make it more realistic and add cracks or holes in the road! otherwise very pretty, keep it up
Lore for this plot or another one: A self made man with his own first company leases a cheap lot / land. He takes old broken down cars in to fix them. While this process made money and leases more lots, he improved his reputation. He suddenly noticed it brings so much money in to take garbage (cars and huge machinery) too. So he stacked old cars under the illusion he is still a mechanic and some day will repair them. One day he rug pulled and vanished to another country, leaving the owners of the land behind with "stacked" trash cars. Maybe this lot was his newest, so it isn't as full as the others. A legal process ensues, no one want's to be responsible for the remains. (True story btw.)
Little late but i think it'd be interesting to see a sort of abandoned/general construction company's lot. often you'll see empty lots with sheds and such full of construction equipment and fleet vehicles like a bunch of white pick-ups, or even orange. It doesn't even necessarily have to be abandoned, I think this would evne work for just weird shaped plots where you'd othewise not really be able to place a structure so you just fit in a construction company's storage lot.
@@FlyPurpleHipp.o love this idea and while episode 3 has been finished and more idea chose. A lot of the suggestions such as this one have been added to my notes for this series as potential other empty lots or places throughout the city as we expand downtown
maybe the story for the land parcel is, that owned by nearby factory as an expansion. Back then when covid hit, and with no production for almost 2 years and the building budget went to pay staff salaries, the plan got scrapped. Also, since most of the production already moved slowly to overseas, the current factory also most likely will be impacted too. Hence you can see almost abandoned but still working factory there
I know its late but for that abandoned lot it would be very odd for the crane to be left on a lot like that for years with how expensive they are, and since they're often owned by subcontractors. On the topic of naming streets after iconically Canadian things, I have to point out that “Rush Street” is a real street name I’ve seen lots of places…
The abandoned lot should be an old railroad hotel that burnt down in a fire, at one point may have kind of been like the Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel in Thunder Bay
maybe if you don't think that back story fits you could put a railroad hotel on the other side of the tracks, would love to see that uniquely Canadian concept integrated.
Hey moose! The main streets in thunder bay are arthur/simpson/water/fort William road/cumberland/hodder (yes that's one main road with multiple names. Please don't ask lol) and another is may/memorial ave/algoma (same as above). There is also red river road. We also have lakeshore drive and river street. I know it's only based on thunder bay but one of the main roads should be one from here!
If you're looking for street names, here's some from TBay! Algoma St., Memorial Ave., Balmoral St., Dawson Rd., Oliver Rd., High St. (named such because it climbs the hill to the highest point in the city), Red River Rd., Harbour Expressway, River St., and Cumberland St. Personal request: It'd be pretty cool if you could name one of the eventual residential streets Tupper St., since that was the street my first ever home was on in Thunder Bay :) (hardly necessary in any way, it'd just be neat for me lol.) Looking great so far!
@@thatcanadianguy7699 thank you so much! I’ve had so many street name suggestions that I think episode 4 I’ll spend the start naming every street we have in the cities core so far 😅
Love Sheffield Street! Very sad that *Sheffield* *Street* *Motors* burned down and 15 years later the site still hasn't been redeveloped... Moose Bay Logging _still_ hasn't got it's vehicle maintenance shop beyond the permit request stage. To get those homeless folks outa town why not drop in a bus route? The depot can be right by the edge of the map so mimic the nature of just having intercity buses stopping by... or maybe even a small train station? And no, that wasnae me tagging your billboard, there's no way you can prove it...
Imma need that 100 car train mod to come to paradox 😅😅 Hespeler Rd. - Cambridge Ontario. I choose this road name, because Hespeler village (part of Cambridge) is one of a kind.
I mean he got a whole sabaton song and thus also a sabaton history video. In case you were not aware of that. The song is called - a ghost in the trenches But I second the notion, albeit there are many heroes that are not recognised all around the globe.
sadly the case everywhere. When taught about war individuals usually fall short. We have several monuments to the fallen here, but it is mostly their names and when they fell. Nothing about their story, their lives before the war etc. And for those who survived the whole ordeal nothing at all.
Looks incredible, fair play. What’s the name of the mod/decal you’re using over the top of the roads/parking lots to dirty them up around the 30 min mark? Thanks!
awesome episode sorry I missed the premiere, an idea for the empty lot, though a bit out there: During the desconstruction of the old building skeletal remains of a human body were found in the old concrete. Due to the official proceeding following this discovery, work was haltet on site. Meanwhile following some restructuring at onshore the person responsible for the site was made redundant and let go. Whilst still in it's books, the company has forgotten about the lot as bigger and more urgent projects need dealing first and nobody there remembers it. As the land lay barren, people started to dump trash and garbage there before some homeless people moved in. All the while the crane is standing there not being maintained and might tople over given more years for corrosion and perhaps a storm to do it's work. For the railyard, depending on what size of the complex you want to go for, I always enjoyed the thought of combining two of the railyard building into one larger railyard, upgrading both differently to still look different enough.
Still not convinced you're an actual moose. Also, regarding you wanting a brush for the surfaces, there is a paint bucket mod that fills area between networks. So you could draw a shape with pedstrian path and fill in with the bucket, then delete the path. Works somewhat well, it's not perfact though.
@@JulienB_BTW it’s funny but I literally have that mod and completely forget it exists 😅 it also lets you preview a surface texture which is so damn useful. Thank you for the reminder!!

@@kosmic_debris oh for sure! I love this idea! And we will definitely give the main streets some Thunder Bay names!
Personal request: It'd be pretty cool if you could name one of the eventual residential streets Tupper St., since that was the street my first ever home was on in Thunder Bay :) (hardly necessary in any way, it'd just be neat for me lol.)
Looking great so far!
@@thatcanadianguy7699 thank you so much! I’ve had so many street name suggestions that I think episode 4 I’ll spend the start naming every street we have in the cities core so far 😅
as a Torontonian, I love the street name Sherbourne, but not the street itself, just the name haha (iykyk)
@@bogdanhxc gonna try not to fan boy to hard over this comment. MASSIVE fan of your channel and twitch streams haha
@@canadianmooseplays whoooa really??? Likewise my friend ❤️
Great series!
Thank you so much!
@@tigonologdring9189 hahaha Tigonnnnnnn. LOVE the bus route idea!
Would love a shout out to Little Britain, Ontario when you start making smaller towns out in the boons!
Sold! Adding to my notes haha
Imma need that 100 car train mod to come to paradox 😅😅
Hespeler Rd. - Cambridge Ontario.
I choose this road name, because Hespeler village (part of Cambridge) is one of a kind.
the train mod is so sick haha
Love the suggestion added it to my list (the list is getting massive) 😅
@canadianmooseplays look forward to its arrival!
Just joined your discord and posted my industrial side of my city!
Amazing video!
Thank you so much!
Hey Moose, could you show some love for an UNDERAPPRECIATED Canadian badass and name one of your streets after Cpl. Francis Pegahmagabow?
I mean he got a whole sabaton song and thus also a sabaton history video. In case you were not aware of that.
The song is called - a ghost in the trenches
But I second the notion, albeit there are many heroes that are not recognised all around the globe.
@@ChaosDelivery I know. Sabaton is, like, probably the ONLY non-indidgenous people who show him ANY of the love & respect that he deserves.
sadly the case everywhere. When taught about war individuals usually fall short. We have several monuments to the fallen here, but it is mostly their names and when they fell. Nothing about their story, their lives before the war etc. And for those who survived the whole ordeal nothing at all.
time for me to do some research
Ontario St. is a pretty generic name but it is quite common across Ontario, can think of at least 4 especially in the GTHA
@@main-lined yeah we will absolutely add an Ontario street heck even here in Vancouver we have an Ontario street haha
To put graffitis you need click the options in snapping options, it’s little confuse but you can it
Looks incredible, fair play. What’s the name of the mod/decal you’re using over the top of the roads/parking lots to dirty them up around the 30 min mark? Thanks!
These ones here: mods.paradoxplaza.com/mods/83154/Windows
Main street should be called Baseline Road
awesome episode sorry I missed the premiere, an idea for the empty lot, though a bit out there:
During the desconstruction of the old building skeletal remains of a human body were found in the old concrete.
Another amazing lore comment! This is going to be so tough to choose haha Thanks so much!
@@canadianmooseplays given you made us members of the city council I am certain some incentives could help influence council member decisions.
hello congratulations fantastic video I wanted to ask you where I can find the construction cranes that you placed on the map? Thanks
@@marcodellorco9991 I use find it for them and just search crane but if you use dev mode and search crane that will also work
Super nice detailing 🙌 Where did you get those industrial door images/decals? Are there mods on PDX that is not on Paradox?
They are these ones: mods.paradoxplaza.com/mods/83247/Windows
Great video, keep going!!
Thank you so much!
The train looks amazing bro! Could u tell which mod/asset pack u use ?
Thank you so much! I don't believe it has been released publicly yet but if it does I will let you know!
Do you have Parking Lots By Dome? it has invisible parking spaces.
Just subbed! I will add those off camera!
Call Briar Rose Street Great Lakes Lane
Episode 4 it's time for me to sit down and use all these great name suggestions haha
Bro where did you get those sully decals? I only have his graffi and dirt none of the signs
so they are not made by sully BUT they are available in his discord in the cs 2 section there is a thread for it OR if you are in my discord you can find a pinned message in my cs 2 channel that links you to it IF you are in sully's discord I am really hoping that this creator drops them on PDX mods
@@canadianmooseplays I have the "good" ones, but I noticed a Gyro one you used, as well as a american flag ones in while i watched.
@@80aj oh yes! I believe those should be released soon! Sully the legend sent me a bunch of them as early access to test out
I started a counter for how many times you say "Sully".
@@brianschmitz8056 wait until episode 3
Dude, where did you find these extra Sully decals (graffiti, cigarettes signs, etc) ? I can't find them on PDX Mods even if I type "Sully" in the search bar..
Sully sent em a bunch of his stuff in Early Access for a 24 hour stream I did but he is releasing them in batches at the same time he drops episodes so they will all be coming to PDX mods very soon
@@canadianmooseplays Ok, thanks bro
Hello I have a question again; why is that that my decals disappear? Like I know they are there, because I see their hitboxes, and if I reload the save or move stuff around them they reappear for a good minute, but they go invisible after a short time again. I'm, asking because I am using the same stains, tire marks etc. as you do.
@@pelikangabor yeah unfortunately this seems to be a known issue I also experience this. If you load and no decals are there it’s recommended to immediately reload so you don’t lose anything
@@canadianmooseplays Thanks

next episode we will start to focus on this. Passenger rail first then industrial
"Whose graffiti is it?"
Why not both? In graffiti culture, it's considered extremely rude to paint over another's work, and as artists will paint over each other when they beef.
Yes and normally the "rule" to paint over someone is : can I do better ? And you must totally cover it up.
