2:58 - Ok, time to debunk the misconception again: the Pastel de Belém is not the original Pastel de Nata. How can it be if the recipe, as you said, is a secret and the name is trademarked? The Pastel de Nata was created because the other bakeries couldn't replicate the Pastel de Belém, so in reality the Pastel de Nata is just an attempt to copy the Pastel de Belém but the only similarity between the two is how they look.
Pasteis de Belem is the I believe is the best Portuguese tart., it's just has the perfect consistency and not to runny/creamy as Pasteis de Nata. And they give it to you FRESH/Hot.
you should try " pasteis de tentugal" around Coimbra. Very, very good!!!!! In Portugal, we have lots of pastries and sweets created by monks. Most of them are simply delicious!!!
I did 5 and it was perfect. Allowed for 3 days around Lisbon, 1 for Cascais, and 1 for Sintra (then a few more days in Lagos after). Was a perfect 8 days in Portugal before heading to Spain :)
