This is fantastic! I ADORE glow in the dark pigments! Probably because I have the eyesight of a mole. 😁💚💡👍🏽 ps. When I used ‘glow in the dark’ pens, markers for an art piece I charged it with an LED XMAS LIGHT STRAND by leaving it on top of the canvas and then I’d move the light strand aside and flip the overhead light on and take the picture with both lights on simultaneously. Because the glow would start to lesson by the second. (it was extremely hard to capture the glow with my digital camera! )
p.s. I had a rough day and this video made it better. Just the simplicity of it, your enthusiasm for the glow in the dark yarn, and even your problem solving…it’s what I needed in this moment. 😊
Filming glow in the dark things is pretty difficult because they don't produce enough light on their own to properly expose your image, so you will want to open up your aperture to its widest setting, which if I remember correctly you film on a ZV1, which can open up to f1.8. ISO should be set to auto because you're not gonna get enough light at 100. You'll want to set it to the lowest shutter speed for recording which is 24-30 FPS, with the shutter set to 1/24-30. The thing that will probably help the most is to set your metering mode to center weighted average, which will expose for the glow and set your ISO accordingly and automatically. Additionally, you might want to try to find a way to fill in the shadows without overpowering the glow, but that's a tall order since the glow is already faint. This would help push the shadows further up the histogram and out of the noise floor, which will be more significant because you'll be using a very high ISO, which lowers your dynamic range and introduces more noise at the bottom of the histogram. Lastly, if you ARE using a ZV1 the 1" sensor isn't doing you very many favors in the light gathering department.
If you have a blacklight charge the hat with that it really makes it glow a lot... I also made a biggie man with the white... It hardly made a dent in the 48 balls I bought 😂
I truly love your excitement, it's contagious.. I almost wanted to buy some glow in the dark yarn myself, but I'd have no idea how to use it, except making traps and obstacles to avoid, like lasers when doing a heist.. 👀🤭 Maybe I'll buy one if red comes along.. 😎🎉 👀 What does the 70's smell like? 🤭 It was cool to see your hat glow in the dark, and the other yarns.. Lilac is my favorite flower scent and I also love the colour, and since I'm not a very flashy person, it fits me well that it's got a softer glow than the others.. 💜✨️ But the blue one was also very very pretty! 😻 Will you only be making hats with that yarn or do you also have other things in mind? Much good luck with making all the hats, I hope it'll be a little bit less time consuming than the first one.. I'm also excited for the next episode of your yarn show! 💜
I was excited to see it in Spotlight in Australia, but at $10 Australian a ball, I wanted to see what it is like before I got some. Look forward to seeing how you find it. We only have the white, so jealous of the other colours 🤩
Eeee! I don’t know if I need to get the yarn like stat or order a hat! But I’m dancing in my living room at the idea either way 🥳🥳🥳 Also what is the name of the circley knitting machine?! Please and thank you ☺️
Purple glow in the darK?!?! 💜Love it, must have it. The joy you have throughout this video is amazing! 🌈 I'm guessing they will be available before Halloween? 👻
When you said you bought a lot I was totally not prepared for the volume in that bag! Impressive! On a super practical level those hats would be great for folks who like to take a walk at night and need to be seen!!!!!
Ooooh! It's been a while since we had a yarn show! Could you maybe make them part glow & part not? (I'm not really sure how knitting machines work so that might be a stupid suggestion!)
Glow Charge Solution: 🔦Get a UV flashlight!🔦 They work insanely quickly (literal seconds), but would take a lil while longer to get an even glow as it's concentrated into the beam of uv light. Still we're talking mere minutes & you've never seen glow I'm the dark things glow like they do with such direct exposure as a UV flashlight! I'm sure they're inexpensive online, but they are usually readily available locally in sporting goods departments because they are used by fisherman to see their fishing lines at night when they set trot lines with bait for example. 🎣
Can you tell UV reactivity is a special interest of mine!?!😁 They have regular small flashlights now, but 15 years ago the only ones I could find where the kind that clipped onto the brim of a cap, so don't overlook the possibility of it not being in the shape of a usual flashlight! Good luck, Claire!! I'm super excited for your GitD endeavors!!!!😆👏😁
Glow in the dark is fun. I once made my little cousins pillow cases that had glow in the dark eyes on them, like cartoony eyes, nice eyes not scary lol
What fun! I love the idea of a glow-in-the-dark hat! That is so cool!! Hopefully, it will get easier to use over time(Ooh, side note: you used the word "pontificate". One my favorites to trip on my tongue. Not terribly important but had to say something.😊).
At the beginning of the video when you were saying how excited you were, I just got the "I'm So Excited" '80s song in my head. I'm glad it worked. Sorry it didn't work well. :( Is the yarn slipperier than others? Is that why it misses stitches? I like the purple or the blue the best. Is it possible to mix multiple colours for a hat? Or would that not work well?
Fun yarn, love your hat. How about a little glow worm ?
The joy, Claire, the joy !!

I love the yarn! Yarn is my favorite thing, as well. I even wrap sticks, both big and small, in it. I use KB looms to knit my hats.
my brain keeps hearing glow in the dark cat… And now I want one lol. 🐱
a pink one. if you make it, i will buy it 😬💖😸

I'm liking 'Wood shed theory TV' presents ... Yarn Show! (or any other show you want to do).
I love glow in the dark stuff 💚
Very cool!
Where my Sheddies at?! It’s so dark I can’t see-oh there you are! 😅

How cool!!! Looking forward to your next hat drop! 💞

Yarn show! Autistic joy with bonus disclaimers! Frustrations, successes, coffee! Awesome 🤣
Oooo I know this! That type of filled chained yarn is referred to as 'blown' (fibres are literally blown into the chain tube during manufacture) 😇
THATS SO COOL!
I love to see you love your yarn. Thanks for the smiles. 💜

Ooooo glow in the dark! That might be worth a cheat on my yarn diet.

Thanks a lot for the tip I hadn’t even considered something like that
What do you do with the scraps? Turn them into a scarf?
Glow in the dark is fun. I once made my little cousins pillow cases that had glow in the dark eyes on them, like cartoony eyes, nice eyes not scary lol
Your excitement makes me smile! 😁
thank you Leslie happy to have you
do you know of the Pikmin games? glow yarn makes me think of glow pikmin, from the 4th game lol
