      @@mr.wizbiz.2917The silence’s arc was around the time of the moon landing - to solve the problem of the silence, the doctor hijacked the moon landing broadcast, something everyone was watching at the time, placing a video of a silence saying “You should kill us all on sight” in the middle. everyone forgot seeing the silence, but internalized the message that all silence should be killed on sight, effectively ensuring that anyone that sees a silence will kill them instead of running away or cowering in fear

    Tbh, the Silence is scarier than Weeping Angels, imo, because it’s harder to fight something you can’t remember than to fight something that only moves when you can’t see it. Imagine, having to not blink for both, then immediately forget you’re fighting for your life, while the other you have a chance to fight back. One is scary, the other is a formidable and intimidating opponent

    • @luisgaytan2387
      @luisgaytan2387 9 месяцев назад +232

      Nah, i think the Angels are the scariest personally. They're persistance hunters who take your natural reaction to fear, to flinch away from it, and use that to hunt you down. Every other monster in cinematic horror trys to make you flinch, to close your eyes, to turn away in fear. A long tense dramatic build up and then the pay off with the jump scare. The angels invert that classic theme in a beautiful way.

    • @rorschac009oo8

      I think the reason silence arent as scary is they mostly MANIPULATE events yes, but we have never seen an immediate impact from forgetting them.

    They remind me to the False Hydra from D&D because she uses the hability to sing a song that erases them from their victims'minds until she stops to devour them.
    Then when she had finished she starts singing again, which makes any witnesses who saw her instantly forget not only everything about it, but also everything about the victims, so she still can go around eating people and no one goes panicking because they don't even know there's something out there eating their relatives, and also not knowing they have relatives because they can't remember them.

    I realize the people who are fans of both Doctor Who and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV series) are probably a weirdly niche crowd, but I've always drawn an immediate parallel between The Silence and The Gentlemen from the Buffy episode called "Hush". The monster/character doesn't have the same effect on people in each show, of course, but I think of them because they're so alike. They're tall, thin, sinister, silent, are going to go about their agenda and will remove you if you get in the way but make no noise doing it... They make my blood run cold. A different kind of cold than the weeping angels. This is creeeeeepy cold.

    But there wouldn’t be a reason for that until what he does with the moon landing.
    And then there’s a whole thing of when Amy ask the silence why it killed that random woman the creature just responds with:

    The interesting thing about weeping angels and the silence is that they are more psychological enemies than actually dangerous. Sure, the weeping angels can displace you in time, which means that you never see your loved ones again, probably, but you can still find a way to get along, especially if you come from the future and hold some useful future knowledge that can help you navigate the era. As for the silence, again, they mess with your memories, and manipulate events from the shadows, but if you are not directly feeling how your life is getting worse, you may not think it that bad (especially if you don't count how many times you encounter them)

    the silence are great, top 5 doctor who monsters. the visually striking character design, the simple mechanic of forgetting them as you look away that stands them out as unique monsters, and just the way their involvement was teased and brought in slowly over time. all of it near perfect, on par with enemies like the darleks, weeping angels, the flood. just superb.

    Weeping angels would be easier because at least you can run from them, escape possibily, and then make them look at each other.
    However, you can not run away from these things because as soon as you turn away to run... You will stop, not knowing why you was running, and then death follows after....without knowing why. I rather be killed while understanding what happened, than to die confused because mystery is more scary and irritating than learning and knowledge.
    Not only this, but with the weeping angels all you have to do is make sure at least one eye is open on them, make smart moves and you'll make it, but with these crestures.... Looking at them does NOT stop them, looking away from them only makes you forget what you were running from, it's nearly impossible

    the silence have always creeped me out. when I first saw them, the faces creeped me out more than anything - skin pulled across an uneven skull in strained motions. I remember covering up half my screen with my hand in scenes I knew they'd be in. Then I realized the sfx was one thing, but the sheer fear that came from a monster you never remember, it just gets to stand there inches out of sight? terrifying.
