20 years. I've been wanting to start my own business for 20 years. I've been talking about it DAILY for 20 years. I have the knowledge. I have the technical and sales skillset. I literally could do this. I just NEVER do and when i 'try' to take the first step, i never maintain consistency and then just stop.
Pay someone to force you to do it ruthlessly. You won't be losing money. If that business will get you $1MILLION, and this accountability dude costs you 100k dollars, then not having him will cost you 900k dollars
Set a daily task. Think of it like going to the gym. Something you have to do everyday without exception including weekends. Then once you can consistently do that task start progressively overloading. When I started my business I religiously posted 1 piece of content a day and got myself into the habit of doing it. The trick to building this habit is literally only doing the tasks your supposed to even if you feel like you can do more. Again just like the gym you can’t train hard everyday and if you do you’ll burn out or get injured. You need to train smart. This will have you actually looking forward to doing the thing and doing it will give you a rewarding feeling. Don’t buy the bullshit “hustle” and “grind” stuff that’s exactly how you don’t build a habit. Once I nailed that first I made a habit of sending an outreach message to every new follower I got then once I nailed that I started consistently posting stories. Once I nailed that I started spending at least 2 hours a day on my product. You get the point. Start with a simple habit and slowly build additional habits around you biz. Before long you’ll have a full workday that is easy to complete and you actually look forward to doing. The first habit to build imo should always be one relating to your personal brand because it allows you to build an asset that you can sell to. I’ve not really got round to YT yet but I think I’ll start posting on here more often soon once I outsource one or two things and you guessed it I’ll be religiously making videos everyday once I do get round to it.
Yesterday I was buying some clothes and I was listening to 'Million Dollar Weekend', and when I was about to pay I asked her for a 10% discount. She smiled and said, 'No can do. These items are just in'. I said, 'Oh, ok'. End of story. Asking is easy when you detach yourself from the outcome.

Nahhh sry not even close. Noah is just that awesome. At times you see Ali not knowing how to formulate the question properly, stumbles or just passes the ball to noah. Check the episode with noah and Tim Ferris, you will see the level difference. Not to take anything away from ali but if tim is 9/10 ali is a decent 6/10 interviewer.

I asked for 5% discount and they said “oh actually we do have discount for people who work at these~” and like that I got 10% off of something they never openly announce. Sure that was some luck but I wouldn’t have found it if I never tried. That gave me so much courage after.

I have been working on changing my mindset about being an entrepreneur, I have always wanted to be self employed and my self employed parents basically forbid it. So I've been grinding and suffering way too long. I took so many notes during this video and will be purchasing both these books! You both shared so many juicy tidbits that even those of us "much" older than you can learn from. How we were raised and how our parents were raised was 1000% different than you guys, yes... Noah's examples of the frame of mind/context is a primary principle in helping you grow - main reason being, there isnt a "set" outcome, until you action a response - how you action said response is up to you as an individual, no one else knows how your thoughts run and in what order, only you. Saying that, it also means you direct the frame of mind, and the kicker is, if you are worried, your frame of mind follows suit. To prove a point, whatever mode your in, for the next few seconds, do something over exaggerated and pay attention to your thoughts and how they change just from actioning a response. 6:00 Regarding asking for a discount at Starbucks. I have a compeletely different takeaway from that. It's not fear of rejection. It's fear of social awkwardness, innapropriateness, coming across as a complete fool, being offensive. I'm not sure how to put it, but we all know that everyone pays the fixed price at starbucks because it's a business, an established brand, and they don't care about me as a customer, enough to give me a discount when I ask. They set the price so everyone knows the price, and they can get through a queue of customers with no complaints. If you ask for a discount, for no reason, when they haven't ever given you the option, you're breaking out of the established consumer process, and the question is why would you do that? To be annoying, or because you think you're special? One of the barista's first thought would be, either are you joking or are you an idiot, or are you just that cheap you need to save a pound or 2. Also, the barista knows they're not in a position to give you a discount even if you ask. Because everyone knows that you don't ask for discounts, so the question becomes why would you do something which you already know you're not supposed to do. If it's to overcome fear of rejection, then there's a dozen other things you/should do. One's which aren't basically innapropriate, go against established rules. You could ask a girl out who you know isn't interested in you - there you go.
The comments about “No ask, No get” resonated deeply with me! I’ve always been afraid of the ask, and I think that’s the number one thing that held me back when I was in sales, as I was always told it was something I’d be really good at. I learned about a conference this week that I’d love to attend taking place at the end of the month, but can’t afford. I’m doing an experiment/practicing my asks by reaching out to companies who are involved to see if sponsorship is available. It’s a super long shot, but I’ve never made the effort to actually ask for what I wanted and have always admired those who could. This video helped me realize I’ll need to get more comfortable being uncomfortable if I want to get further. I’ll come back to this comment and update y’all if anybody agrees to do it, or tells me to F off, or whatever 😅

@@JohnnySnappleseed I didn't receive a response on that specific conference, but it definitely helped me feel more comfortable taking initiative in asking for opportunities or speaking to people I usually wouldn't and has paid off immensely! That idea coupled with other areas I've been working on has led me to be speaking at my first conference as a keynote since I originally wrote this comment :)
Ali’s conception of sales being slimy or bad is SO common. I used to think this. The book To Sell is Human by Daniel Pink completely changed my perspective. Sales is about moving people. A doctor sells his patient to take her medication. A parent sells her children to eat his vegetables. You sell yourself in a date, in an interview. All human communication is sales. And it isn’t a BAD thing!
I’m only 20 mins in and this video is AMAZING. Such a phenomenal shift in the way that people think about selling and about starting a business. Love what Noah has to say and great job as always Ali! 😊
I’ve been inspired to pick up Noah’s book, the Million Dollar Weekend - and I’m very excited to actually START. “NOW, not how” is really powerful. I don’t want to accidentally find myself 5, 10, 20 years from now still thinking “I want to do ___ someday.” Start doing it NOW and future self will instead be thinking “I’m grateful I’ve been doing ___ for the past few years.” Good luck, everyone!

Hey guys, this is such a killer interview. Ali's and Noah have a really similar style sharing their fails and insights into mindset's that can make a difference, plus the key which for me is accountability and getting around personal excuses to take the next small step. Noah nail's it with 'Now not How' - I love how his book and approach draws on the software/tech startup approach of just trying things fast, and moving on if no good. This approach seems to be sprouting everywhere and Noah's really nailed it for business application IMO. Looking forward to reading and learning from the book
My problem is I dont know what business to start. I guess it can be anything?? I get most energized by encouraging and mentally/emotionally boosting other's business ventures and notice myself trying to offer such services to different people running small businesses throughout my life...I actually have academic training in ux/ui and service design...I just want to make the businesses I want to see in the world become wild successes!!! I feel more confident in being able to do this with all the experience I have after working in many different roles...so I guess i can start there!

I've watched a few interviews on this channel today. And I've learned that a lot successful millionaires started a lot of businesses that failed before they made it. I also learned that they all start with fear, but they don't let that get in the way of starting or continuing. Sometimes when you're on the other side you think that they became rich fast and that they went all in with no fear and truly for most that's not the case. What am I taking away? I'm going to feel my fear and do it anyway. And I'm not going to continue stalling the start of my business even if it ends up "failing".

Starting anything is a separate mindset. You don't need to have the whole courage to complete the whole thing, but enough to take the first step. Start with the smallest thing, which doesn't makes you afraid and keep building on it. Soon when you see results, your confidence will be compounded and so is the success.
It is interesting because I have a project called Embassy Life in DC that I have spent a lot of time over the past year on. I don't view it as a business, but more of a hobby that I sink a lot of time into when it focuses on international embassy and cultural events in the DC area of the U.S. However, I would love for it to be one, I'm already getting some benefits from it like comped tickets and a minor Patreon following. The big thing is trying to get a consistent cash flow from it along with RUclips.

Start small. I have built the courage through reselling stuff. Don't make it to hard on yourself. Slowly I will get to e-commerce. I know it.

I recently discovered both Noah and Ali and I can’t thank God enough for such humans and their ability to break things down.

This video is exactly why you are relatable. As successful as you are, you are still thinking " i need to save money". I have been working on changing my mindset about being an entrepreneur, I have always wanted to be self employed and my self employed parents basically forbid it. So I've been grinding and suffering way too long. I took so many notes during this video and will be purchasing both these books! You both shared so many juicy tidbits that even those of us "much" older than you can learn from. How we were raised and how our parents were raised was 1000% different than you guys, yes... We can learn alot from what you are sharing!! Please don't ever doubt yourself!
Another FANTASTIC interview, Ali. This is such a prime example of a growth mindset. Major key concepts:
1. taking on a “experimenter” mindset
2. actively seeking out rejection
3. your best life + best self is WAY closer than you think

This guy has the Healthiest mindset of any entrepreneur I've ever seen. This may also may be my favorite podcast of all time. And I'm not joking when I say this as a person who has watched RUclips since nearly it's inception. What a blessed intelligent and well rounded guy. I wanted to take like 15 percent of his mindset for my own! Thank you so Much Noah and Ali.
Noah's examples of the frame of mind/context is a primary principle in helping you grow - main reason being, there isnt a "set" outcome, until you action a response - how you action said response is up to you as an individual, no one else knows how your thoughts run and in what order, only you.
Saying that, it also means you direct the frame of mind, and the kicker is, if you are worried, your frame of mind follows suit.
To prove a point, whatever mode your in, for the next few seconds, do something over exaggerated and pay attention to your thoughts and how they change just from actioning a response.

6:00 Regarding asking for a discount at Starbucks. I have a compeletely different takeaway from that. It's not fear of rejection. It's fear of social awkwardness, innapropriateness, coming across as a complete fool, being offensive. I'm not sure how to put it, but we all know that everyone pays the fixed price at starbucks because it's a business, an established brand, and they don't care about me as a customer, enough to give me a discount when I ask. They set the price so everyone knows the price, and they can get through a queue of customers with no complaints. If you ask for a discount, for no reason, when they haven't ever given you the option, you're breaking out of the established consumer process, and the question is why would you do that? To be annoying, or because you think you're special?
One of the barista's first thought would be, either are you joking or are you an idiot, or are you just that cheap you need to save a pound or 2. Also, the barista knows they're not in a position to give you a discount even if you ask. Because everyone knows that you don't ask for discounts, so the question becomes why would you do something which you already know you're not supposed to do.
If it's to overcome fear of rejection, then there's a dozen other things you/should do. One's which aren't basically innapropriate, go against established rules. You could ask a girl out who you know isn't interested in you - there you go.
The comments about “No ask, No get” resonated deeply with me! I’ve always been afraid of the ask, and I think that’s the number one thing that held me back when I was in sales, as I was always told it was something I’d be really good at.
I learned about a conference this week that I’d love to attend taking place at the end of the month, but can’t afford. I’m doing an experiment/practicing my asks by reaching out to companies who are involved to see if sponsorship is available. It’s a super long shot, but I’ve never made the effort to actually ask for what I wanted and have always admired those who could. This video helped me realize I’ll need to get more comfortable being uncomfortable if I want to get further.
I’ll come back to this comment and update y’all if anybody agrees to do it, or tells me to F off, or whatever 😅

@@JohnnySnappleseed I didn't receive a response on that specific conference, but it definitely helped me feel more comfortable taking initiative in asking for opportunities or speaking to people I usually wouldn't and has paid off immensely! That idea coupled with other areas I've been working on has led me to be speaking at my first conference as a keynote since I originally wrote this comment :)
That was one of my core takeaways from chapter 1 in his book!

Ali’s conception of sales being slimy or bad is SO common. I used to think this. The book To Sell is Human by Daniel Pink completely changed my perspective. Sales is about moving people. A doctor sells his patient to take her medication. A parent sells her children to eat his vegetables. You sell yourself in a date, in an interview. All human communication is sales. And it isn’t a BAD thing!
This Noah is something else. He has changed my view about getting rejected and hearing No.

Hey guys, this is such a killer interview. Ali's and Noah have a really similar style sharing their fails and insights into mindset's that can make a difference, plus the key which for me is accountability and getting around personal excuses to take the next small step. Noah nail's it with 'Now not How' - I love how his book and approach draws on the software/tech startup approach of just trying things fast, and moving on if no good. This approach seems to be sprouting everywhere and Noah's really nailed it for business application IMO. Looking forward to reading and learning from the book

My problem is I dont know what business to start. I guess it can be anything?? I get most energized by encouraging and mentally/emotionally boosting other's business ventures and notice myself trying to offer such services to different people running small businesses throughout my life...I actually have academic training in ux/ui and service design...I just want to make the businesses I want to see in the world become wild successes!!! I feel more confident in being able to do this with all the experience I have after working in many different roles...so I guess i can start there!

I've watched a few interviews on this channel today. And I've learned that a lot successful millionaires started a lot of businesses that failed before they made it. I also learned that they all start with fear, but they don't let that get in the way of starting or continuing. Sometimes when you're on the other side you think that they became rich fast and that they went all in with no fear and truly for most that's not the case. What am I taking away? I'm going to feel my fear and do it anyway. And I'm not going to continue stalling the start of my business even if it ends up "failing".

Starting anything is a separate mindset. You don't need to have the whole courage to complete the whole thing, but enough to take the first step.
Start with the smallest thing, which doesn't makes you afraid and keep building on it.
Soon when you see results, your confidence will be compounded and so is the success.
It is interesting because I have a project called Embassy Life in DC that I have spent a lot of time over the past year on. I don't view it as a business, but more of a hobby that I sink a lot of time into when it focuses on international embassy and cultural events in the DC area of the U.S.
However, I would love for it to be one, I'm already getting some benefits from it like comped tickets and a minor Patreon following. The big thing is trying to get a consistent cash flow from it along with RUclips.

One thing though: you mentioned here that getting your teeth done and taking care of your hair loss was a great decision and brought improvement to your life. Which I totally understand by the way.
