You couldn't get much more of a reference performance than this. The original composer, and a band assembled of the commitment level of the US Marine Corp. Wonderful.

An epic band masterpiece composed & conducted by the master composer and performed by the world’s finest wind band. 🎼🎶🇺🇸
Stunning, to say the least!
I love how much fun the composer/conductor is having at 3:10. His face and the fact that he’s mouthing the rhythms says it all.
Completely agree!
The very first time i heard this symphony was in 2005, performed by the Utah State University concert band. I heard that they were going to be doing a "Lord of the Rings" concert and got so excited that they were going to be playing pieces from the movie. At first I was very confused, then disappointed, and finally incredibly grateful to have accidentally stumbled upon this masterpiece of a symphony.
This is hands down my favorite movement, it really captures the vibes the hobbits give off! It makes me so bouncy and happy and ready for an adventure
I performed this song around 20 years ago. Couldn't remember who composed it and the movies made this really hard to find. So glad I did though. I love this piece.
I read your comment and 20 years ago!? That's a long time but it was only the year. I first played it the summer after my sophomore year at IU summer music clinic in 2001!
Many people hearing only the title expect to hear the movie's soundtrack. As a euphonium player, I far prefer de Meij's version!
Interesting. I too played this around 20 years ago, maybe 2002 or 03, with the Valparaiso University orchestra while I was in high school. They had some program going on that allowed high school kids to join one of their concerts. Amazing time, especially with the acoustics of their cathedral.
@@davidbloss9134 At high school regionals we played the orchestra arrangement of Paul Lavender's abridged version. I'm pretty sure most of us thought it was the actual soundtrack at first. I'm also pretty sure very few of us were disappointed to find out it wasn't once we played it.
My favourite part of this movement is the clarinet countermelody at 2:42.
We played this in 2004 if I am not mistaken and I love this piece so much. So many memories with every note. This recording made me cry a little. Amazing.
Its One of the BEST compositions for concert band. I Discover It in summer 2001.
I love playing in this concert hall. Excellent job. Clarinets sound great!
Clarinets always sound great
@@amyparra1881 I teach in an elementary school. Not ALWAYS lol
@@akuf4933 I hope you know that I was being sarcastic about that. You know practice makes perfect
One of my favorite modern band pieces of the 20th century. Wonderfully played ladies & gentlemen! Hoorah!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Gandalf in the front row still asleep =)
He's looks a lot like I did 50 pounds ago! I'm really popular around Christmastime, but I don't wear red shirts then ... little kids follow me around!
I played this in high school along with the Allentown Band with him conducting.
I first heard a recording of this piece (by the Dutch Royal Military Band) in the early 1990s (just happened to see it in a record store), and got my band to perform it in 1995. Glad that in the ensuing 25 years it has become a classic. Was at this performance, which is at the customary phenomenal standard of the Marine Band.
@RUclips - shame on you for putting an ad 20 seconds before the end of this symphony.
we played this in wind symphony and i’m happy to hear the euphoniums !! amazing!
One of my favorite pieces I have ever played. No better recording out there
Lovely performance and love the interpretation of the piece. Thank you.
A great recording I wish the Marine band would also put up the Mahler 3rd Symphony which was also on the program
Goosebumps every time! ♡
The bell-up at 6:08…my, do I love being a hornist!!
01:03 Love this part
Such an awesome performance overall. Well done!
I played this in high school. I am in AWE after listening the these people play this. I also went to this school lol...
Thank you! That was just so amazing!
Una belleza, gracias por esta interpretación!
TONIGHT...
James conducts a military band
😂
Does anyone else think the conductor looks almost exactly like James May?
You can feel the Elves sailing to the Undying Lands in the Finale.
Very good.higt quality.
Powerful.
Would there be any reason as to why there is one trumpet player playing on a Bb trumpet while the rest are on C trumpets?
Because he doesn't want to transpose? lol
I know the upper parts lay better on a C trumpet.
C trumpet is way better haha I learned how to transpose because I liked it so much more
@@travisday8684 ehh it depends. I like the sound of the b flat better but boy is it easier to play Mahler 5 on C!
How can the guy in the front row keep falling asleep?
5:14 a squeak from the presidents own, didn’t know they could do that.
I need a phone repair... my replay button broke!
dirigée par le compositeur lui-même
the real champ is the guy in the front row that sleeps at the end.
Please do Extreme Beethoven and Extreme Make-Over!
They’re taking the hobbits to Isengard.
If they ever make another animated LOTR movie (the 1978 one is a fever dream lmao) this should be the basis for the soundtrack.
: )
Yeah, they're Marines, but the trombones are still manspreading all over the place.

If that's all you go out of this, you need to rethink your life.
