Finest euphonium performance I've ever heard - virtuosity beyond measure! Thanks for blessing my ears with such incredible musicality David. The wind orchestras performance was truly amazing too! Hats off to all of you.
This autoplayed after a previous video and didn't bother changing it - saw David Childs and left it on. Didn't realise it was 25 mins of pure awesomeness from both himself and the orchestra. Euphoniums high up in the register just sound the best (and that's from a trombone player!)
They were probably high school band teachers who were never able to perform so well in concert them selves! I know a few of them. One in Northern Virginia and one in South-Eastern Virginia!
Superb performance! Wow. Amazing technique, outstanding sound and a great example of how to make a euphonium "sing". I am always amazed when I hear David play. Also, wonderful accompaniment and a really great piece of music from Johan De Meij
I had the same experience as Aytron Hockaday; I had never heard of the piece and wouldn't have sought it out except that it came up on autoplay after another euphonium RUclips. What an excellent piece of music! Child's comfort in the extreme ranges is extraordinary and the wind ensemble is absolutely superb. I also agree with several other listeners about the less than thunderous applause at the end; perhaps the audience had all just had surgeries and were under the influence of sedatives. What would be nice is to know what brand of horn Mr. Childs is playing?
@@Leisesturm Many thanks for the information. Nice to know, though a player as masterful as Mr. Childs could probably sound fabulous blowing on a piece of junk.
seriously, what is wrong with this audience? I don't think that there is anyone who can perform that concerto like David, and they are applauding as if they played a simple choral. I would have gone crazy at the end!!
This audience doesn't believe in UFOs or the quality musicians that would play a concerto with it's name!? David's a great euphonium player! I wish I would of had him as an instructor when I started playing euphonium back at age twelve! Thank you St.M T W O for sharing this video with us on RUclips!
Ein geniales Werk, ein super Orchester und ein fantastischer Solist!

What the heck are the 2 people who put thumbs down listening to, this is top class euphonium playing at the highest level.

iNCREDIBLE DAVID ! Congratulations on your gift with your majesty the euphonium.

Belíssimo e raro concerto para Euphonium solo. David Childs simplesmente fantástico e talentoso.

Mr. Childs is currently a Besson artist. The 'Prestige' model to be specific. I think he has been endorsing Besson since ~2010.

@@douglasweber2401, it would make his job a lot more difficult though.
That band is mighty big! Well played keeping it all together

Great performance , but, Who is this St. Michael Thorn for whom your Wind Orchestra is named after?

lmao same
Dutch audiences generally don't erupt in cheering and other stuff. We're not that over the top as a people.

I would have too, to say that it was a remarkable performance and fascinating piece is an understatement.
@@TheJH1015 thanks, that's very helpful in explaining their reactions, or lack thereof.
Johan de Meij's euphonium concerto is not very good. Misses the mark.
I kinda like it. It has his sounds and new techniques sprinkled all over. It’s cool.
