I have an old Taylormade Burner 5 Wood which has a longish shaft and an 18* loft. I works well off the Tee and off the deck ! I use my Taylormade M2 3 Wood off the Tee - when my Driver isn't behaving ! I could live with that 5 Wood with no Driver and no 3 Wood ! That's something I NEED to do !
This is why I replaced my G430 3w with a Paradym Triple Diamond 5w on a 3 wood length shaft. The 5w is the lower spin model, so I get high launch low spin off the tee, and can chock down on the fairway and have a 5 wood control. So an 18° on a 3 wood shaft is a 4 wood. I also went with the Paradym because it was adjustable in the 5w where most others are not.
Oh boy...Thanks for the video, it was so good and informative ... Finland on the Mistah Short Hitter map, and now back to Pinehurst, time here in Finland is now 21.21☺☺but in other hand, we can now golf round the clock, even in the middle of night......Thank you again !!
Great video, I was stuck in my decision to move to carry just a 5 wood and thanks to this video I am now a lot clearer which way I will go !! Thanks again
These Srixon woods are amazing. I have the 5 wood. Are they are classified as low spin fairway woods though? The jump in distance I got with the 5 wood is crazy! My previous 5 wood was 20 yards shorter on carry. The srixon’s launch so easily and go for miles
I only carry my 3 wood when certain courses require it. Ex. Par 4 that might be 230-240. Driver may be too much so 3 wood it is. Otherwise, I use a 5 wood most of the time carries 190-200 average club off ground. 210 off a tee. Similar to you, maybe 10 yards different but its more accurate. I've also switched out my 21 degree hybrid for a 21 degree 7 wood. Same sort of distance but so much higher and straighter. It is about 10 yards less than 5 wood. Downside of FWs are the bigger profile in the rough. Hybrids work better there. An option could be the use the 5 wood head in the 3 wood shaft since it is longer. If they are the same make.
@@greythekid8955 I went for a fitting to find a club to hit further than my 5 Hybrid (26 degree). The 3 and 4 Hybrid went even shorter until the lad put a 7 wood in my hands and out popped a shot 20 yards further than my best 5 Hybrid. Looking forward to Mista Short Hitter's video of 5 vs. 7 since his swing is similar to mine and he shows all the data. Short, sweet, and crisp for understanding.
I dont get the yardage you're hitting on course, closer to your indoor #'s. So my gapping is 3W, 3+Hywood, 3 hybrid. Gets me where i need to go. Looking forward to seeing Tom.
Great comparison MSH. When I got fitted two years ago I left the three wood out. Can’t consistently hit it off the deck, but the five wood I can. The Ping G425 five wood has a face like a hybrid and is very forgiving. It does leave me with a gap between the driver and five wood, but I can live with it. Retired and don’t play angry golf anymore… ⛳🏌
First of all Merry Christmas from PR, quick question, What Iron or Hybrid could a 5 Wood would substitute? And What Iron or Hybrid could a 7 Wood would substitute? The reason I'm asking is because I was thinking in taking my 3 Wood out of the bag and besides my Driver, a 5 Wood and a 7 Wood, your opinión is well appreciated, Happy New Year 2025 🎄
I don't think you could benefit from a 4 wood. Just ditch the 3 and go with the 5. That's a narrow gap to fill. I'd use a 4 if I was adding another wedge, but I'm not and it looks like you don't need one either. As a rule, I've hit my 3 wood very well, but I only use it once or twice a day. I hit my 5 wood even better and can use it more frequently. I've thought about a 4 wood, but I would not take that 5 wood out of the bag, it's my favorite club. So for me, why bother.
Are your 3w and 5w the same manufacturer/model? Mine do not match. My 3w is much longer but as you pointed out my 5w has a much higher trajectory. Holding a green with the 3w is out of the question unless I can roll it up there. Thanks. "Hit'em straight "
MSH thank you for this video and yes agree that a 5/7 combo is right for this senior golfer. Also find the 5 wood misses much better than my former 3 wood. Happy Father’s Day and keep up some of the best content on RUclips! Cheers from Buffalo NY
@@mistahshorthitterI use a Cobra Radspeed pro five wood, 17*, lofted down to 16*. Small head with slight rails on the sole. It’s a little rocket launcher
Really enjoy all of your content! From a personal fairway wood search similar to yours I ended up with a 4-wood and it has been perfect. I average just a tad more swing speed than you, but from what I see you are more consistent ball striker than me. You are right that my “best” 3-wood was longer than my best 5-wood, but I had more miss hits with the 3-wood. Love to see you try a 4-wood and I think that fits you. Then I’m guessing your next club down would be either a 7-wood or hybrid depending on gaping and preference.
P.S. I got my 4-wood used and it happened to be an inch longer than standard….I hit it as long as the 3-wood (same club and shaft). With you being such a good ball-striker I’m betting if you get a 4-wood the same length as your 3-wood you would carry it further as well

You make a good point on the average vs. the maximum.

Happy Father's day to all Father's.
3W all day for me. 60% of the time, it works every time

That's about right! lol
I’ve switched out both my fairway woods for Hy-woods and I’m hitting them longer and more accurate.

Great video MSH! I put a 5 wood in my bag a few years ago and never looked back! Also have a 7 wood that replaced my 4 hybrid.

5 wood is a very reliable club for me.

Sounds like a winner!
I can hit my 7 further than my 5 or 3

Thoughts you have on taking a 5 wood but lofting it down to 16.5 degrees? I have the g425 standard loft 17.5. Thank you sir?

@@mistahshorthitter Would be great to listen to your opinion and comments from everyone else as well🙂 once again Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
You were smoking those. What brand of woods were they?
Those were Srixon ZX Mk2
I feel the same way about the 5 wood. Have you tried a 9 wood? I love it and make great contact.
Not yet. But, may get my hands on one soon!
What I took from this video is we definitely need more Aqua Woman.
Yes, on the way!!

Do what works for you.
Why not both? For me the 3 wood goes 230-240, & 5 wood 210-220. Without the 5 wood, next club down is 3i or 3h, both 200.
Whatever works for you! Thank you for watching!

How does that 5 wood compare to your hy-wood?
5 Wood is slightly longer and flies higher.

Happy Fathers Day, everyone. BTW, I’ll take the dance lessons.

What 5 wood are you hitting? Or maybe you’re going to do a “what’s in the bag” video and surprise us.
Coming soon!
Neither 4 wood
