I've put over 12,000 on mine so far. My first new car. And yes. I'm a car guy. I've owned a Corvette, 3000GTVR4, and a Porsche 911. But this is my current daily driver. My whole family really loves it. I worked in the automotive industry for about 18 years and seriously considered a Tesla Model 3 before doing a lot of research and cost comparisons. The Prius still made the most sense. And I know people will scoff. But I went as far as to compare insurance, tire costs, oil changes, loss of electric efficiency across bands, and about twenty other ares. In the end the Prius is still streets ahead.
On a scale of 1-10, how much heat do you take for driving a Prius? Especially by your friends, being a car guy and all? I'm 19 and also a car guy myself, but I'm thinking about buying a Prius in ~5 years when I'll be looking for a reliable long-term family man daily driver. I'll probably be eyeing used '23-'25 Prius' by then. Any complaints, or is it really the best car you've ever owned, all things considered?
@@cartert147 I'm really happy with it. I pick it as a daily driver over my Porsche 911 or my Ford Explorer. It has the same pickup as my old Taurus. The two gripes I hear from reviewers are engine noise and the HUD. But both are non issues in my opinion. I'm 5'9 and my wife is 5'. Both can easily see the HUD. And the position is great because with a hybrid you glance down to see what eco band your in and adjust to use the EV mode and save gas. When I drive a five mile regular stretch of road I get over 90mpg. But I average about 50. The engine noise is only when you mash it. And it's a seamless transition. Amazingly fluid. I've had nothing but compliments. And that includes people asking me what it is! One person said they didn't like the slope of the front. But that's it. I did a lot of research against the Model 3 before buying this. And it still makes more sense to get this. I usually fill up with $23 and can go over 400 miles. If you'd like to see the long term cost comparison I'll share it.
I think you made the right call. Even if you can charge at home, eventually you're probably going to be compelled to take a longer drive, and sitting dead still to charge it for 40 minutes isn't a good use of time. Seems like it would be downright miserable to take a fully electric somewhere that isn't super local. In this vehicle, you get your 400-ish miles, fill it in the time it takes to buy a drink, and you're back on the road. I'm looking at this as a rideshare prospect, but may just go for the Carolla. 90% of the fuel economy benefits, with more headroom, and about 10k less between the two trims I'd take for each vehicle. 90% of the benefits at 25% off is hard to turn my nose up at. I own a car detailing business and rideshare during the slow season. The only things that have me seriously considering the Prius over the Carolla is the extra cargo space, and the looks would garner interest and could be an icebreaker between my riders and I.
