  • Who doesn't like plants that climb on stuff?!? Shingling plants are fun and easy to care for. They may look intimidating, but they are ridiculously easy to grow! I share my monstera dubia, rhaphidophora cryptantha, and rhaphidophora hayi; as well as some care tips. I grow mine on a moss pole / board and hang them on the side of my frig. Featuring plants from @frenchieplantlove and @spellboundplants on Instagram; please follow them =)

    At the 3:33 mark I see a small bug, maybe a gnat. I bought some double stick papers that are made to put in plant pots to snag all kinds of bugs and it works great!
    So these Dubias are stuck on the plank without being in a pot? How does that keep the plant alive? Where is the root ball? I'm confused.

    Thanks for the video! I'm currently rooting the same 3. Once I have some success with them I hope to try marcgravia's. It was interesting to see how you have the cryptantha and hayii growing on planks and the dubia in a pot.

    • @LegendsOfMonstera
      @LegendsOfMonstera  5 лет назад

      The dubia was in a pot originally and had roots trailing out of the plank so I figure I would just pot it instead of detaching it and reattaching to a new larger plank. Curious to see how it'll grow. I also have small strands of dubia on the frig as well.

    • @LegendsOfMonstera
      @LegendsOfMonstera  5 лет назад +1

      Hm I’m not sure. I wonder if the moss didn’t stay wet enough in your environment to sustain the plant? This method may be harder for places that are really hot or dry and keeping the moss moist is difficult. Was your moss outdoors?

  • @yougrowgail

    • @LegendsOfMonstera
      @LegendsOfMonstera  4 года назад +1

      Hi Samantha. Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. I don't plan to do a dedicated video on verrucosum anytime soon, though it's one of my all time favorite plants. The reason is that they pretty much grow like weeds. They seem really resistant to root rot, and if anything seem to prefer being slightly more wet than most other philodendrons. I did show the potting mix I have mine in in my "soil for philodendron" video (Ep 25). Hope that's helpful. Cheers!

    Hi, thanks for the vid. I just purchased a baby Dubia and a 4 ft. plank for it to climb. I'm wondering if I should go to an 8 to encourage the big leaf development. What are your thoughts?

    • @LegendsOfMonstera
      @LegendsOfMonstera  4 года назад +1

      Whoa 4ft? Your baby must be really big already! I don’t think a bigger plank encourages more development. The key to success with Dubia seems to be high humidity. You can always add another plank when it outgrows the current one.

    • @debrabelton3161
      @debrabelton3161 4 года назад

      Where did you buy y our plant?

    • @debrabelton3161
      @debrabelton3161 4 года назад

      @@fireflyFL777 I purchased it at NSE tropicals. www.nsetropicals.com/product/monstera-dubia/
      The plant is now 3 feet long after only having it for 2 months. The leaves are somewhat small but as they attach their roots into the board the leaves become larger. It seems to be a fast growing plant. I have it in a north west facing window about a foot away from the window. I mist the board about 2-3 times a week. Next time I think I'll get a sturdy oak tree or maple branch with bark to let the vine climb. If you use a tree branch know the type because certain trees are toxic to other plants and animals. I hope this helps.
