Played a bot match yesterday and even the bot allies insisted on stealing my jungle farm. Felt pretty realistic tbh.
That never happens to me. I went to battle prep and said "I'm going to the central area." Maybe do that.

@@bhudusanj1574 they try to take the jungle but seem to leave when you get the first buff (I had 2 bot matches where a Talonflame came to contest the jungle, but went to the a lane when I 'stole' his first buff).
It's very easy to steal the enemy jungle in bot matches as well. I just took theirs the entire game after the first Dreadnaw. At a point, I was 5 lvls ahead of the opponents highest lvl lol :p
I definitely made a greninja on my team feel like I was a bot in a game LOL I stole his jungle as cinderace and always made sure to go back when he did. We are both masters and it was unranked and the rest of our team were no-ranked so I just wanted to have fun. We stomped so hard even sharing the jungle that the other team FF’d at 4 minute mark though.
Sometimes they are real ppl just vs with bots weirdly enough.
On the other hand, one time I got the bot replacement for an AFK teammate. At first I was annoyed, but I was bottom laning as blissey solo most of the match before that. So I got the option to "follow me" and I actually started doing better. That bot pikachu was actually better than my real teammate, even before he was AFK.

If I can get a bot that can constantly follow me around, it just helps me secure kills and goal lol
It's funny how much better I can do with a bot than many human teammates.
Cinderace and Pikachu are the only characters that work out ok.

Another tell that you’re in a bot game is your teammates calling out “Retreat!” whenever they’re at low HP and sometimes getting KOd by wild pokemon such as ludicolo
I remember being able to click everyone’s picture profile while the game was loading in and everyone was zoomed in on the face except for me . It felt like a weird cult was taking over
I just thought it was a product of the game’s cheap coding or not loading but this makes sense

Same, got 11 and 300 points and got to level 15 which rarely happens for me(usually get to 13) most games.
21 is the most kills I’ve got xD but have only been playing 4 days edit: I realized it was vs bots now. Vs ranked my highest was like 11 and 10 assists
I once got 35 kills and scored 400 points tbh I probably should’ve realized that was a bit match
Got 38 kills one match, but that was after losing four in a row in veteran rank. I did feel better afterwards though!
In case you haven't noticed, they also score in the EXACT CENTER of the goals.

@@Pslamist I mean I'm working with the same game engine as pokemon unite and as I have seen nothink have a condition that make them use the apility of goal in the middle since their IA and their hitbox are large they must score before even geting to the goal
I would rather have a bot than the guy that stays at spawn spamming surrender on cooldown.
Yeah, I also had one spamming attacks or running in circles in spawn so you wouldn't be able to report them for idle. Sigh, heheh

I’d say it’s because you and someone else called top lane but after you both lock in 2 other people say top lane and you end up with 3 attackers 1 defender and a speedster with 3 people up top at the very least. Some people really just don’t know how to play the game effectively at all and when you’re the only defender it’s not easy to hard carry 2 people feeding their brains out.
Don’t you just love it when you’re teammates are late to every team fight, don’t help zone out for zapdos and when they have full points but decide to farm vesp camp instead of scoring in the last minute. It’s even better when its 7 matches in a row in ULTRA rank. Man I love the match making system lmao
My favorite thing with talon flame is carrying 50 and using fly between bushes during the last 2m and dunking at the last 3s’ lol

People are stupider, and stupid people get to high ranks too easily with high winrates by being carried.
I was in a bot match recently, but only the opposing team. My teammates were real. I felt kind of dumb after giving everyone a good job and then noticing the opposing team was made of bots. It feels bad because I thought we were killing it only to realize it was a gimme game. 🙁

i hate those pity bots matches. As if I wasn't angry enough losing lot of games and then they are like. Poor baby here take this bot match and you win and feel happy again. That bot match boos my anger so much than once i suurender 7x of them. Then the game did same and match wad humans vs bots and i could no longer give up matches.
Once in a bot match everyone is a bot except for u. Not possible to have human teammates
Every time I get a bot match I get upset instead of confident cuz its just feels like the game is patronizing me.
Legitimately this makes me feel worse than being stomped in a real game.
How to know if you aren’t in a bot match:
Someone waits until the very last second to ready up just to grief you.
I’m all for doing that as a good will sign to your fellow team mates, you know, let me know you’re real and stuff.

@@KwehKwehKweh I’ve had too many games where people wait until 1 second. Enough games that I think people are doing it intentionally as a way of trolling.

I use those few seconds to hit my bong piece, so I’m usually that guy waiting until the very last second to ready up.
I just lost two bot games in a row, so I'd like to dispute the claim that it's impossible.
When my team is leading, I'm accustomed to being at Zapdos so that I can defend it. But for whatever reason, _all four_ of the bots on my team decided to hang back at the base, leaving me (a Wigglytuff player) at a hopeless 1v5 against the enemy bot team, all of whom filed in at once and proceeded to destroy me. Since I had about 30 trillion consecutive kills during that game, my respawn timer lasted about 50,000 years. After those 50,000 years were up, the enemy team had more than enough time to secure Zapdos and win the game. It was absolutely embarrassing, but it happened. And then it happened _again_ on the second bot game, because if you lose a bot game, they'll just continue to give you bot games until you finally win one. I legitimately do not understand what I'm supposed to do in a situation where your botted team refuses to attack or defend Zapdos with you.
On the third bot game, the bot team actually didn't throw at Zapdos, so I was able to win. I hate this system.
Yep it's terrible to lose against bots, happened to me too.. It's even worse than losing against real ppl.
This exact same thing happened to me. The first two bot matches my team would not engage Zapdos. Your bot teammates do not score that much before Zapdos so if you don’t take Zapdos it’s really hard to win.

Sometimes you will get 4 bots and 1 real player on both teams.
I had that happen at Zapdos in a bit match. But they only scored one goal and the match ended. I thought they might not yet to score to let my team win. Guess I was wrong about them forcing the bot team to lose.
A lot of games have some version of a winners/loser queue to keep players from going on long win and lose streaks. Theres research to show that long streaks cause higher player lose, cuz the players get bored of always winning/losing. These bot matches seem like a really heavy handed way of doing that, especially in higher ranked

I'd much rather have slightly longer match wait times in order to not play with bots.
At the moment I search for a match and I'm INSTANTLY connected with loads of people.

The idea isn’t to avoid wait times. It’s to keep you playing the game if you go on losing streaks.

@@bearwynn but you already said in your comment that you don’t experience long wait times. That is also true for everybody right now, so no it’s not long wait times.
@@bearwynn also people only get bot matches when they go on losing streaks. If the bots were a method to avoid long wait times it would be less predictable when you get them.
In a bot match:
1. Teammates wait before picking their Pokémon. This is to ensure that the player gets to choose their favorite Pokémon.
2. Your teammates use randomized load-outs to increase variety and authenticity.
3. Trainer Avatars of your teammates appear as scrunched versions of their real counterparts with the same clothes and user-name.
4. It may or may not apply to both teams.
5. Team members appear to be doing behaviors that are illogical in Unite Battle.
6. Fights are lopsided towards the player’s favor.
7. The player team has a massive advantage over the opposing team.
8. Leveling experience is boosted.
9. The player has little control over teammate behavior. This is to prevent piggybacking and allow the player to focus on their own plays.
10. The player is prevented from engaging with teammates after the battle. This means that no “good-jobs” can be gained for the player’s profile.
If anyone read this comment, I want to know if it’s appropriate to follow a gerund with a verb. It did it in #9 and it sounds sorta odd.
Actually I guess gerunds are nouns so the “allow” should have an s at the end. Yep that sounds so much better.

I had a bot match yesterday. In veteran class. They played better than some of the other teams I had previously played with
THIS. Honestly I find myself screaming at the screen, "HOW ARE YOU AT VETERAN RANK AND YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO LANE PROPERLY!?"
@@SeraphsWitness people getting hard carried into those ranks for sure. Even in ultra/masters people play like trash and it frustrates me. Since getting to masters I’ve only done 1-2 ranked games per day and the rest unranked or quick
You missed one way to tell a bot match at the start of the match they don’t move for a second
I had a bot match last night. I genuinely thought the whole team was afk at the start!
Also the bots tend to leave points all over the floor because they keep killing wild Pokémon but don’t always attempt to score.
Thank you for sharing this. This finally explains why I can't "Good Job" - "Block" - "Friend" etc at the end of some matches. The more I learn about this game the more I don't like all the sneaky ish they are trying to pull. This explains the lack of info and detail in the game. Sigh. I'm new to MOBA and now looking for alternatives to Unite for Switch if anyone has any suggestions. Cheers!
Smite is another free MOBA though it’s different in that it’s from a third person perspective along the lines of something like Gears of War. There are a few others if you’ve got the time to give em a look.
Vainglory is on mobile, not sure how it is now but it use to be kinda kewl.
Like most games it’s free but has skins everywhere and it’s the same basic concept except you go for kills and base destruction not goal scoring
The bot match is good way of reinforcing bad habbits, especially for newer players thinking they're playing a normal game. I just love how dreadnaw sits there all game if you don't attack him lol. At least if the bots in the matches did the objectives it would teach people a little...

Trigger point for me was 5 in a row (in ranked) with all the same tells that you highlighted. One difference was one game I had the enemy bots surrendering at the 2min mark when Zapdos spawns.
I’ve noticed this for a while now, it’s extremely bad in lower elo.
Funfact : you can send a friend request to a bot . If you go to your match history and then select them you are then granted a option to add friend.
Bcas the accs are real, just used by bots, it happened 100% to your aswell, someone, fightet against your name and acount

It's funny cause I've encountered Bots with the zoomed Pictures and it just freaked me out until I found out Bots existed in ranked lol

I have heard the term "bot match" used before, didnt understand so this was helpful!
Been stuck at Veteran 1 for about a week now, I've noticed ill hover there for 7 or 8 matches. Once I drop to the rank below back to expert I get a bot match to put me back up.
this explains a lot - I definitely felt i was in a super easy match after 4-5 losses straight. I thought i was just shoved into a beginner lobby, but this makes a lot of sense.
Edit: Also, this is super disappointing to see. Does the dev team behind Unite take community feedback at all? I feel like Pokemon in general really has a straight up wall and division between the playerbase vs the people who make their games. I know in Apex Legends, the devs are pretty active on social media, take questions, take in feedback, etc. I'm genuinely curious if the Unite dev team are willing to change certain things based on community feedback.
It's certainly not the Pokémon way to listen to the fan base. And I think Tencent only really cares about the profit to be honest, so I wouldn't get my hopes up 😜

In fact I think they have a general disdain for high-level competition. Tripping in Smash Bros. Brawl comes to mind.

OMG that really surprises me. ive never had a feeling like im playing with bots (maybe in my first 2-3 matches, i was completly stomping with snorlax) but i have like 100-150 games atm and never had a losing streak bigger than 2. So i guess maybe i never encountered that bot thing but when it happens someday i will know ;D. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and keep up the good videos.

I got one at master after a five losing streak and it was the only time (also my biggest losing streak). But before masters its everywhere. The begginer rank is like almost all bots lol I think it ruins ranked quite a lot and make people rank up without deserving it

@@matthewscott4339 Then there should be a bot mode... and they shouldn't be playing ranked. Bot ranked where you compete to do better then other groups versus bots with a weekly reward.

I noticed that I get bot games on matches where if I loose (again) I’d go down a rank (or rather class) the way I was able to tell was by how the enemy engages and disengages when fighting you… they’ll chase you back to your tower and disengage at the same exact time.. if you exit and reach a certain point past your towers, they’ll re-engage at the exact same time.
Ive never been able to tell if my teammates were bots tho.. I’ve never seen (or noticed) no Pokémon picked except for my own
In a bot match
*they usually wait for u to pick the character first
*u will always load last
*@ start of the game u will move faster than the rest of the team they all start moving after 2sec delay
*sometimes @ start of game they call for assistance
*when they get low on HP they run away in the middle of anything they were doing eg- killing u (even when u have less HP then them) zap or drednaw they just abandon and run to base
*during game they won't use quick chat
*@ end of game all of the trainers profile are set to private, u cannot view any of them
90% of my standard matches are with bots
If u keep losing ranked matches eg 2/3 in a row u will be placed with bots in ranked matches too
Right after watching this video my next ranked match was a bot match. That was my first ranked match today so they also seem to remember losing streaks from a few days or so.
for me it's easy to tell
since i choose japan server during the beginning to play with people not in my region but later found out that even though you chose server at the start the game still force you to play with people in your region unless there's no matches
so for me if i see if both team is filled with names that how japanese players name their online self it's a guarantee bot match
side note, i do belive that the bots are actual people accounts which the game "borrowed" since the close up profile isn't a 100% thing
Yeah something I noticed while struggling through ranked every time I dropped a rank/class Id get put into a freebie bot match. I wish the ranked ladder was just less punishing on losses so losing streaks didn't devastate your rank instead of wasting 8+ minutes on an insulting bot match. They also surrender instantly at 5 sometimes if u pushed all their goals.
Bots insta surrender the second you get a 330+ point advantage.
I remember when the game just started and I decided to wait and see where everyone went. Only for my whole team to be frozen for 2 seconds as well. They all suddenly moved when I did and the enemy team I was against were making really questionable plays. I was so confused as it felt like no one had any idea with how to play. The match was super easy and it just felt so strange, but after hearing that there are bots its like ooh~ yeah that makes sense.
My unite picture in-game was already that bot thing on accident.

Pretty sure I’m teamed with here and there, always surrendering, stays in home base, lags no support. Can’t even get out of expert due to mis matched, very unbalanced and needs to be adjusted, keep up the great work Spragels love your work it’s helped me throughout my first time in a moba, very helpful with item usage and very detailed info. You always win bot matches. The isnt a match where your team is bot and the enemy isnt. Bots are in the game to give you victory after losing streaks
Ive been steady climbing through expert 2 to 1 win loss. I start losing rank when i group with my friends sadly... Wish that werent the case but subtle choices you make in matches determine wether you win or lose.
Biggest issue i see players make is everyone trying to score the most on their team so they ignore saftey and teamwork for goals.
@@camronreynosa4958 yep! Most common mistake is pushing tier 2 goals early. 95% of the time it’s a terrible idea. Even if your team doesn’t get wiped it’s always better to back off and farm, ideally stealing enemy mons to keep them down.
I finally got a match where we tied and the way to determine the winner was whoever scored first im pretty sure. I won that game but was so surprised
This week I have had 2 3-game losing streaks in ranked that resulted in a bot match where I was the only human on both sides.

The dead give away for a bot match is when all the players names are in english

I don't remember seeing a single bot match after Ultra for me, but up until ultra its incredibly obvious when you get one, it seemed to always be around 3-5 losses and then you would get a bot the entire way up through veteran without fail
I'm on a long losing streak because the game keeps putting me in god damn bot matches, and the bots are absolutely useless, it's hard to play support when your entire team runs from every fight and hands over scores like they're on the other team.
@spragels you forgot to mention one thing. They all don't move for the first second of the game then move at the same time and emedantly without calling out there lanes at the start run to the lanes they "should" be in. Also I have only ever gotten one bot match and I got mid easily. I did lock in talonflame though and I think the bots just recognised that and said ok we have a talonflame with fluffy tail they are mid. btw fluffy tail was cause if felt like eject button was useless cause aerial ace sticks to oppoents well along with your bonus ms and if you need to escape I have brave bird. if I used it then I used it to ingage in which case I probably don't want to go out all the sudden
since one of the former updates, bots use fancy profile fotos and holowear, but you can still tell you are in a bot game

I can confirm this is happening as well. I haven't recorded any ranked bot matches, but if you queue up around 5am PST, the queue times can go as long as 1 minute and 15 seconds. When the queue time gets too long, it will match you with a full bot game.
I wonder if this is exploitable for ranked matches?

I lost twice in ranked. Next match the opponents had odd behaviors. Noticed it with the Charmander, no kiteing with the auto attack, no using escape options used. Thought something was off, but it makes sense now.
I religiously check out trainer profiles every game I load into and haven’t seen the telltale bot zoomed in pictures ever. I think my longest loss streak has been 4 games ever and that was after a long win streak. Kind of sad I don’t get bot games lol but sure feel like my team is bots. I have around a 60-62% winrate and am in masters so maybe i just haven’t lost enough in a row to get them? I also always give at least one person a “good job” whether it be on my team or not and haven’t been unable to do that in a game thus far

In a lot of bot matches the bot team will surrender if you are beating them by a certain amount so I usually just push really aggressively and they’ll surrender at 5 minutes
Curiously it's been a long time since I've encountered a bot match, as I generally make it a habit to give a good job in every game. I did wonder though why I couldn't do that for one particular match, and now this video answers it. How it triggers is also a mystery, as I have a lower win rate than my sister, but I notice that she actually gets placed in more bot matches than I do. I remember recently she was doing rank (she's only in Great), and she couldn't Good Job anyone and we couldn't figure out why.
I'm neutral on it as I personally do not like a long losing streak, but now I'm gonna try to keep my eyes peeled to see if I land in bot matches more often than I thought lol.
Also another way I found out if they are a bot is that the four teammates also spend like an extra 1 second at home at the very start of the match. So you move ahead first. I think thats so the computer knows which lane you are headed to first.
It's a 3 lose streak for me that leads to a bot match, and it has to be from the same game mode ie. 3 losses in standard or ranked. I once lost 3 quick matches in 3 days in a row and the next quick match it's a bot game.
Also I think sometimes bots are in the actual game too with real people. They're not behaving like bots in lose streak match but sometimes I find people just randomly stand still inside a goal doing nothing until the enemy comes. Pretty wild.
One way I have noticed is that human players will move forward immediately at the start of a match because we are already holding forward on the controller. In a bot match you’ll see all your team mates move off at exactly the same time and slightly delayed.

Has anyone notice that in bot matches that there is always a mr mime with a premium costume on the enemy team, ive encounter some bot matches climbing from veteran to ultra, and every time there is bot match the premium mr mime is always there?

Holy crap. I was wondering why I couldn’t tell people good job on a match or two last week. I’m having a LOT of trouble getting out of Expert because so few people will rotate down to Dred from top lane. People still treat Rotom as more important and it just blatantly isn’t. Even if they’re getting mauled every time they go to top lane and giving them free exp and kills, they keep going. At that point it would be so much better to rotate down and secure Dred. Top lane is less important and could theoretically be left totally alone if the alternative is securing Dred, gaining a level advantage and shields.

Glad you like it! Yeah one of the hardest things about rising rank is that you are going to be paired with people that don’t play the objectives and sometimes your neon big winning streaks and sometimes you’re going to go on big losing streaks it’s really frustrating.
I was just in a bot match while on a winning streak with a poor performance.
I tend to get a bot match, my first ranked match of the day, still stuck in veteran, but that seems to be the most common of times that I get a bot match, even if I won 4 in a row before I stopped playing the previous day. Though, I think bots can end up on a team of 4 as well. Tried to block someone in a match, but couldn't even though they were so bad, but I could good job my support player at least.
Experienced it recently, it feel so weird. Quit rank after reaching certain goal rank, broken for solo.
I consistently had bot games after a 2 loss streak in Expert rank and below. Haven't had enough of a loss streak in Veteran or Ultra to trigger it. I usually take the jungle in every bot game as Cinderace. They usually contest the first 2 jungle pokemon, then give up jungle and go to lane.

My first bot match had each side but me pick the same pokemon, items and they went to the same sides when the game started
It's really annoying at times because at one point I thought I all of a sudden became incredibly good but then I found out afterwards I was like 90% probably playing against bots
Go check your battle record and see if you can add the other players in the game. Pretty sure thats a safe way to retroactively check
@@duncan_d0ugh you should look that right after the match. If you look after, in your battle record you can send them friend Request (which is weird)
Wow. This explains a lot. Everytime I lose 2-3 matches I get a match where my team absolutely destroys the other team. Feels weird tbh
Idk if it’s only matches with one player and 9 bots. I think they’re put into lobbies that can’t fill as well. I’ve had some matches where there were definitely some real players but one or two that had the tell tell trainer pic and unless they were just RP’ing a bot, the same fight tendencies.
I’d say the fighting was just because a player dropped connection but the addition of the pic…
This seems very speculative. the loading screen close-up on the trainer card is just a visual bug, there's been a good number of times that I TOO was zoomed in on when in reality my trainer is in full-view on the card, this is likely due to the close-up being how the trainer cards were initially programmed into the game during development. Likewise are the post-game interactions a bug, when my friends and I play together there are times that we can't even access each other for thumbs-up or "good jobs".

Found another way to determine if it is a Bot match or not. Was on a bit of a losing streak last night. First match today was a bot match. When the match queued you could see the player icons, but on the score screen I saw some of the "Players" on my team were Masters/Ultra. So the Match queue pop should have hidden player icons, but looks like it won't do that no matter what the player names they steal are.

The way I used to tell if my opponents were bots is that if you are fighting an enemy and then quickly hide in grass they forget you even exist and start walking away lmao.
Ive noticed i usually get bot matches after i loose 3 in a row, also the thing about them always taking jungle, they dont from me but i always call my path idk if that has something to do with them not taking it
So with thsi knowledge i know ive been in a match against all bots at least once. Thought the identicale trainercard zoom was just a team calling card
These bots can go AFK or I am unlucky so badly? 80% of my games 1 or 2 team mate(s) leave after 2-3 min may it be standard or ranked.. it's so frustrating
I only liked bot matches when I'm 1 step away to my target rank (Ultra) for season reward...

All of my 20 + KO games as Snorlax were bot matches. It seemed like it was happening every time I lost 2 in a row but only in solo queue. When I played with my gf we never got bot matches on losing streaks.
I had a game when I was in ultra where I got 25 kills and I would just wait by their spawn picking them off because they would walk back to heal when they were low instead of teleporting, was so dumb
