Do you think he's lying or just misinformed? I think he really isn't sure why he is losing at this game tbh...
I think he's just not truly invested in this game to be honest or he didn't learn the game first before reviewing it. 😹
He got skill issue, somehow he's really good at spinning it into a bullcrap content
Spragels, he just have 28 matches. He truly doesn't know what he's talking about 😅
Tbh of you pay thousands of dollars to be good at the game and you still lose there might be a possibility that your just bad at said game
In other words: skill issue
I think its a smear campaign or click bait he shouldve not included pokemon unite because its a moba game not a gacha game

"I started losing"
*Lone Charizard in enemy slow zone next to enemy spawn in a 1v2 with one being a defender and then again another 1v2 right after*
"Must be the need to spend money"
"So I paid money. *Buys a notoriously bad item, an item that does nothing for Charizard, and an item that arguably does less than nothing for Charizard.* "AND NOW I NEED TO SPEND MORE."
and then he used choice specs on char
and then he showed himself attempting to mash fire spin on charizard but missed the button three times before he noticed.😂
And fighting the Lucario one on one the Mid which obviously can't win the fight because of the Buff advantage of Lucario.
Can we all just pause for a second to acknowledge how tactful Jake is. Even in game when he has a teammate that does something that makes zero sense, rather than go off on them he’ll say something like “that was interesting” and move on. His tilt control and tact should be in the god tier on his next tier list.
Yeah, it kinda reminds of PekinWoof, a LoL content creator that's usually pretty chill, and when his teammates or anyone (including himself), messes up or whatever, he just explains the play and what should have done. If you play LoL is very useful since even in low elo, he explains how the opponent should have acted
I for one use the few games where my voicechat isnt banned to turn my teammates into shuddering, themselves-to-sleep crying balls of shame.
I wish I was as untiltable as Jake
Jake definitely is an extraordinary gentleman!

It couldnt be that he sucks like 90% of the player base lol
But he does bring a lpt of valid points about mobile game "culture". Jake even agrees.
@@ivanljujic4128 but over half the criticisms barely applies to unite. Theres no set play time and you can spend 10000s if dollars you wont win with money alone and no thought
@@ivanljujic4128 your right bro but it doesn't apply to games like pokemon unite. Like sure you can use meta characters but they don't cost u money plus you still need skills to use them.

Unite is all about skill, as they say, holowear doesn't change the gameplay, it's just for fun and people get the items max by time, even if I have max held items, I can still loose cuz of different reasons, but not because I didn't payed....
When he talked about buying items, he proceeded to buy two special attack items, for charizard
Poor guy
Has no idea what hes doing
Yeah I noticed that too.
The first time I played unite I also put sp items on chazirard lol
I can kind of see the mistake since, in the main games, Charizard is a stronger Special Attacker, but still, Unite literally tells you the damage type for each Pokémon.
@@turtlenator6249 I know that's what made me realize that Charizard is an attacker. Coming from someone who got hooked as a general fan from the main games I just assumed it would work the same way, I also thought it depends on the moves I choose. No - as much as I agree that the game isn't horribly P2W, you'd be a fool to believe that the confusing rewards interface isn't by design. It's so you miss things and are encouraged to spend money instead

I actually have 33 Pokemons, all held items are all level 20, and 8 of them are level 30, COMPLETELY F2P. I wouldn't say it's a scam, but if you got spending problems, it's not the game's problem anymore.
Ur all items aren't lvl 30 right? P2w p!Ayers can get all of em lvl 30 easily and have access to even completed pokemons early
So you're saying that if someone is an addict, giving him drugs is ok? These games are designed to bankrupt the people with spending problems and also get some that do not have spending problems into having those problems. Stop being so naive.
@@anindokhajuriachakrabarty3276 But the boost from level 30 isn’t much, and a level 20 item user can beat level 30 item user. Also, you can just grind for a month and get them.
It's a shame ppl are just listening to him without actually doing research about the game and just believing everything he is saying
Says a lot about humanity
Yup i just checked the comment section of that video
Shame on him. With 12 million subs he could’ve approached anyone in the Unite Community for input.
That's the internet in a nutshell. It's literally what most people do when it comes to listening to people they like.
The comments section of that video was filled with dumb comments like. " Oh Arun what your doing is very good and makes me wanna trust you and your the best ever for exposing such big companies like Pokemon without any fear" I am a person who gets angered very easily if someone is talking wrong about something they know very little of with so much confidence. I looked at spragel's video thumbnail and went straight to Arun's video. After watching the video and the comments I was fully enraged by all the cringe I saw. He played like a total fucking noob with zero skill and lost and decided spending money is the only way and went for it and lost again with still zero skill and I understand unite does have some of those offers which sometimes may corner u into buying and this man talks so much shit with zero sense I loved Arun up until now if you wanna expose the gaming industry for pulling money from whales choose a correct game do research about it play it yourself and do a little more research about ur ups and downs while playing and THEN make a video about it. Like mans put two fucking sp.atk held items on a CHARIZARD the game literally tells you what type of damage the pokemon does.
it's interesting how he came to this conclusion. I had a very similar experience when I started playing this game. I'd never played a moba so I quickly got to a point where I was losing alot, but instead of thinking "I need to spend money because other players have more resources than me" I looked into how to become better with my gameplay. That's when I discovered Spragels and Krashy and Cris. Instead of thinking "I'm good at video games so it can't be my skill that's lacking" you need to accept that you're not good at this type of game YET and learn to play better.
This is me as well! 😊😊
That was me as well
If your first reaction when playing games is “how much should I pay to get good here” then just don’t play games

I think it would be funny to invite that guy to play with You a couple of games and actually coach him / point out what he does wrong to improve his gameplay, and PU experience. Coming back to this video 8 months after it was released. I am proud to say that we are coming up on the 2 year anniversary of Pokémon Unite, and I still have yet to spend a single penny on the game. And I have not experienced any sort of reduced success in the game due to not spending money; all it has been is an extended period of time to upgrade things. Even then, I still have a 58.7% win rate in the game, and I still do not have all of my items at max grade. Money does not have to be spent on this game for success guys. What is needed is time and effort put into improving at the game, and as you do that, the rest of what you will need, such as the item enhancers, will come with time. Keep at it, and don’t give up.
The Moist video was my first time seeing unite and I loved playing it after that.

CODM is also quite transparent about how their draw system works. There is literally a large button in the middle of the screen saying “more info” which tells you all the reward chances and that there is an increase. The values it increases by are also easy to find online. I have bought the entirety of one of the draws because I liked the skin and was willing to put in the $200 for it.

The only concerning thing for me is the steady increase in cost of new Pokemon. We had 10 000 as "high" at the start, but now every new release has been 14 000 for a while.
Yea they gave Mew for free but I feel they only did that to make the next 1s even more expensive . If you actually track the cost they've only gone Up and Up . I kinda feel that's part of the reason why they keep releasing so many characters so fast. It's already pretty bloated. The next ones will probably be 20K and with the hard Aeos Coin limit you'll basically be priced out of trying to learn a new character to play competitively.
Thank you for doing this, you're the real MVP.
Some idiots in the internet really deserves to get slapped hard af.
So, if I put super item enhancer in a level 26 scope lens, do I get all the item enhancers back which I put in to get it to level 26?
Yes
He makes some good points, but he also makes it out like the game's holding him hostage forcing him to spend hundreds of dollars for miniscule stat boosts when in reality the game throws out so many free rewards and helpful items for new players
im sorry but its an actual fact , about the things he said like the expensive purchase in the beginning to make everything else....seem negligible, these are factual things used in every game now, as a person who got developer friends, and the amount they rake in by using this against the gullible, unite isnt a saint either. Its confusing for many beginners who has to either pay, or watch a lot of guides to even get started on a game which is the weirdest fking thing. Take league for example, i DONT NEED TO WATCH A VIDEO to actually learn how to play, nor will there be a micro transaction slapped right into my face, to set value of currency into the game
Imagine the story IF he kept winning when he paid for those items. "THIS GAME IS PAY TO WIN, GG"

@@anormalguy8407 That tells you how badly informed he is. He's generally like that. Hasn't got a clue about so many things. Battle passes are used even in console games. Plus people gotta keep in mind that the game developers need to get paid because there are bug fixes that they gotta implement there's new content that they gotta but out there to keep the game interesting and all that costs money to implement. All I got to say is if you are enjoyed the game there's nothing wrong with spending a little bit of money on the game.
Just pointing out that while there are some frustrating things that I have been forced out of, I have been playing since the beginning and haven't spent a single dollar on the game. The only thing that has me frustrated is Pokemon prices, wherein they can be 6, 8, 10,12, or even 14 thousand coins to purchase and that grind can be a pain, but while some Pokemon are incredibly strong, no Pokemon is so inferior that it can't compete among others. It is annoying when a Pokemon you really want is released and it costs 14 thousand coins, while so many others cost less, like do you save your coins for tyranitar or do you continue to buy all the cheaper Pokemon you can?
The $1200 he “had” to spend was for buy all the Pokémon he “needed”, with all the skins he “needed” as well as all the energy rewards he “needed”.

Truly a skill issue moment
I put this comment under CrisHeroes’ video but I wanna put it here too:
My perspective is different than a lot of people because I’ve played a ton of mobile games, usually with a lot of micro transactions, but this is my take:
Prior to the introduction of more ways to get held item tokens, the game definitely felt pay to win. It was difficult to get an item to level 20, let alone level 30. And unlocking Pokémon also took a much longer time
I am 100% free to play on Pokémon unite, and I have 7 items level 30 and majority of my items level 20, with the ones I don’t have level 20 being useless to me. Keep in mind I’ll have days where I don’t play the game at all, and others I’m playing a ton
I am not desperate to unlock every single Pokémon, but I have a lot of them. Compared to other mobile games, Pokémon unite is much more generous with the amount of free items they give
Yes progression will take a while as a F2P, but if you expect the highest grossing media franchise to make free to play progression easy, you are going to disappoint yourself. And of course money does not equal skill level. It doesn’t matter how big of a whale you are if you don’t know how to rotate to lane
I’m not happy with how the mobile game industry gets their money it doesn’t feel honest at all, but Unite feels like a poor choice for this topic. Diablo Immortal (which he does talk about to be fair but it should’ve been the main focus) would’ve been a better choice imo
Why do people need Items or emblems to win tho? I hit masters every season (6 in a row now) and i've never spent a dime.
@@metsumat you need them but you don't need to pay for them. The game gives you more than enough for free or to at least earn. Spending money to max out atk weight does nothing unless you actually know how to use stacking items. Emblems is more about min/max stats. Why don't you post this at the uploders channel? We are well aware of this, the people on his channel are oblivious and encouraging.

I've been playing since launch and even from the beginning it's been very F2P friendly.
You get many free pokemon that are good in the meta like Greninja and Cinderace.
If you spend enhancers on the wrong items like most new players do (myself included) your experience could be worse, but even then it didn't take too long to get the right items to lv.20 when I knew which ones to lv up.
“I’ve paid a ton of money, but I’m not winning… this clearly means it’s pay to win. I’m just not paying enough and everyone who is beating me must be paying **even more** than me.”

You can't blame the game because you lack the skills and don't know a shit about pokemon
Can we talk about the aeos coin cap and the new inflated prices for new Pokémon. Sabeleye is about to be like 15k
Even though I know that maxing out my held items isn’t that useful, I didn’t spend money on the item enhancers and I like getting a few extra stat buffs so I always try and max them out

Anyway thanks for the constructed criticism.
16:15 He thinks he "needs" holowear to win matches. He said it straight out...
Notice how like every time the guy shows footage of him losing to back up how disadvantaged he is, it’s also like footage of a 2v1 scenario minimum.
The few things i learned from Mr. Spragles is to have a LOT of patience, try to have fun gaming, and don't look at your win rate when playing pokemon unit. And it absolutely helps.
And the frustration was really because of losing money due of lack of information regarding game.
So,yeah mrwhostheboss deserves some mercy.
But having made a video he is misleading people about PU.
I also feel equal parts sad for, and angry at, mrwhosetheboss because there are so many legitimate problems with the game that the devs should fix but he literally played 28 matches and gave up and didn’t do any research with the actual community.
Someone should let that guy know that he could buy full rights to pokemon unite and he would still lose every match. It takes time and experience, not money to win.
That @Mrwhosetheboss guy is totally on point about how the mobile f2p model works and how it lures players into spending more. While Unite has a lot of those traits, but the game has been pretty fair to its players. Just by playing the game regularly, you get all the coins and tickets you need to buy you the next Pokemon and get a good chunk of item enhancers. The game doesn't lock anything that is game-changing behind a paywall (the 'play Dodrio/Scyther a week early by paying gems' scheme is kinda bad though). The premium skins are crazy expensive and I would have definitely bought a couple of them if they were 1/4 or even 1/3 of their current price, but I'm ok with it. It's just a fancy skin. And besides, they've been generous lately with lots of decent free skins for a wide variety of Pokemons now.
Like @spragels said, you don't need to spend ANY money to get an advantage. The only advantage you can get is by playing it more and learning all the intricacies of the game. This guy clearly hasn't done his research. Or he just went in assuming things.
WhosBoss has no clue how Unite works. Pretty sad people just eat up his BS up.

Techsource are u talking bout mrwhostheboss or jake?
I think,Spragels should make a guide video for new players about what are the first things you need to do in this game.
Ex- settings, learning about the mechanics, choosing 2/3/4 suitable characters to rank up,free held items, the game menu, what to do as f2p and what to do as a money spender etc.
Some of that stuff has been covered in YT videos before like getting muscle band, scope lens and energy amp/shell bell to lv30 and getting other useful items like focus band etc to lv20.
But I think you're right there's a lot more that RUclipsrs could cover now that the meta has changed a bit.
I think he has this kind of video and even other Unite RUclipsrs have their own guide for beginners.
But I think it depends on playstile and pokemon. For instance, in a lot of cases, Buddy Barrier is *_WAY_* more important to max than Scope Lens, Shell Bell, or Energy Amp.
Thanks for responding, I saw his video and was surprised by the amount of misinformation
When i first played pokemon unite i thought that attack weight was bad and useless but when i used attack weight the first time at level 21 it was so good that i reconsidered my decision that attack weight was bad of course items like special attack specs and attack weight and aeos cookie have different effects
The item enhancers you need to get to lv 20 is over 1000 or a little over 500 from level 1
Question:Is leftovers item bad?And what are your opinions?
I mean leftovers are decent early game better then nothing and goes on any pokemon but generally unless you are running a more defensive/support build they are just fine (unless you are me who made it my first lv 30 lmao I was dumb)
I have reached Master 3 seasons in a row until now and I haven't payed one single dollar. There's no need to pay in order to be competitive, just practice and understanding the meta and the objectives 🤌🏻
Edit: it's also my first moba and I play 4-5 hours a week, sometimes even less. I just started playing when it was launched for mobile
your first moba huh. congrats. its alot of info to take in, but when it clicks, its quite fun.
Yeah please keep this going. All famous unite youtuber should make videos like this since this is a complete bullsht. Things about mobile games that he said actually makes sense but picking pokemon unite for the video just fails 💀
As a f2p moba player for almost my entire life. I think he just misunderstood the game and is misinformed. That's why whenever I try and play a new game I watch a video about it and how it works for at least just 10-20 minutes. The only time I ever pay for a game is when I want my favorite characters to have beautiful skins.
You either a ML player or LOL played or any other moba games

@@Smoothvoperator racism is never tolerated, go get educated
@@allanberche7902 getting the wrong information across to a moba game is also not tolerated
I have been playing Pokemon Unite for months now and when I first started I didn't know much and the game indeed doesn't educate you enough when it comes to emblems and held items. My very first account has a win rate of 47% because when I started to play the matchmaking was horrible but I will also admit that i lacked skills and knowledge about the held items and emblems. Still, I didn't feel pressured to buy the membership/battlepass because the game rewards you.
I recently, decided to do a new account as I got better and I bought the membership (actually I wanted the batttlepass but by mistake I got the membership lol) and I canceled on the same minute. Tbh, i just paid for the membership for the skins, nothing more. Majority of my held items are at level 17 (before the membership and even after) and I don't care for the emblems as for now. At the moment, I'm at Ultra 5 because I'm trying to carry my gf her bestie to Masters 😅
My old account which is FTP I reached Masters multiple times and yes, I spent hours and hours and days to get there.
Also watching Spragels, Crisheroes and Inder helped me a lot.
I watched the other video and saw this one in recommended. I understand him to be busy with his channel, so while he played it for 3 weeks, that wouldn't have been a hardcore 3 weeks. I believe it was simply that he hasn't reached the points that you mentioned here. What you say about not knowing how to play this particular game looks accurate from the little footage I've seen not being the same sort of turn based combat I've always seen from Pokémon.
Overall, I think you did a fair analysis on his video and you showed a great deal of patience coming from the perspective of someone who's a lot more experienced with the title
The phrase that stuck out the most..." I spent half of my total earned aeos coins on items"... So basically the guy isnt an eye user and can see that he could also buy with tickets.
he had just started the game and he wouldn't know which currency has more value so he spent aeos coins because he had more of them
@@csmitt1269 His position for the whole video was "I cannot play this as a free user", if he tried to think as a free user and evaluated things appropriately, he would have taken note that unite licenses can only be bought with coins or aeos gems, and items can only be bought with tickets and coins. Again, he was looking to make content, bashing mobile games is easy, and bashing the pokemon community stirs up a hornets nest. This was a ploy to get views. Nothing more.
@@csmitt1269 To be fair, the fact that he JUST started the game is still on him. He just impulsively went for purchasing with whatever he had instead of doing any significant research.
But Spragels is right, there are very few in-game teaching tools. But RUclips is free!

@@tuff360 yeah he does have good points on other moba’s and some for unite as well
Picked the game up briefly when it came out to try it and dropped it until they increased the roster. A couple months ago got genuinely reinvolved with the game.
I did not ever feel like I needed to spend $1200 dollars to be successful, or even to get access to some powerful Pokemon or items. Spent about $20 for cool skins, and that was it. No problem carrying in ranked games either. This dude is pretty disconnected from reality.
*goes 1v3 against 2 level 5 attackers and an absol and dies* "It's becuase my float stone wasn't level 30. Curse you scammers!"
My biggest peeves about this video is that the dude mentions how if you want to get into this game competitively, you have to use money and how much of a slippery slope his argument was. He did bring up points that I would normally agree with, if he hadn't used Unite. But the logic about the competitive stuff is like simply just astounding. You don't need money to get better, you need to spend time learning the game, learning the map, the mon you want to play etc. I could go on and on, but most of the points Spragels and Cris makes about his video are points I agree with. There is so many flaws with his argument and it's so frustrating that it'll influence so many people because of his following.
I've paid over $60 and played for a year and don't even have all the Pokemon...
@@brunaldo5522 I’m playing since january f2p and i’ve got most mons
Apparently he only has 28 games. He can't really be talking about staying competitive if he's nowhere around experiencing it
@@brunaldo5522 bro how can you not have all the mons after spending $60 and playing for a year i have played since release but only actually played for like 3 or 4 months tops cause of breaks and spent half the money u have and i have managed to get just about all of them
I will admit, the stress and confusion thing is true. Thankfully, it lessens as you keep playing and learning more about the game and meta.
The confusion part, I mean. The stress just increases.
The stress and confusion are true just about all of competitive game even not a f2p game , like fighting game for example, you need to learn it to understand the game, he just have to admit that moba is not for him
As someone who has been playing Unite from basically its launch, it's nice to see someone as knowledgeable as Spragels deconstructing all of this, while I can agree that some of the systems can be confusing, as you say yourself it's nowhere near as predatory as he makes it seem, I personally as someone who has little self control have only ever spent about 100 dollars on the game one time ever and that was just so I could buy up every Unite license from the start, and even then after eventually using up most of my gems I still have tens of thousands of aeos coins saved up for whatever comes next. Rambling aside, what can I say except skill issue
I really felt in a way similar to how he is describing when I started, but that's because all I knew was that I wasn't getting everything the game had to offer being a f2p player. I was not getting many item enhancers like the content creators I watched had, and I always thought I'd never have a chance if I were to fight against them because of that. But the truth is that most of the things done outside of a match do not really impact the game enough to make someone worse in skill than you to beat you, even if you are using Assault Vest, Leftovers and Float Stone on a Lucario chances are you won't get sweeped by a Crustle unless they are really good with it and you are not good with Lucario. However, to finally be able to see that took a long time and I've been frustrated with the game for so long until I did, but this guy didn't seem to put any effort into really exploring the game other than viewing numbers.
Unite has serious issues but not these ones
I feel that guy is feeling pressured and paying for rewards is a product of that pressure, he's also making mistakes while playing. He charged right into the enemy base, tried to 3v1 and 2v1 in a very reckless way, then saying he needs held items to do well. I've been f2p since I started playing and I haven't felt any need to spend money to upgrade my items and buy energy, you're good to go as soon as you get the pokemon, held items and emblems barely make a difference. Sure, I won't deny that the effects are something good to have, but by no means are necessary to perform well at the game.
I literally have tons of energy tank boosts and it's just a matter of time to max out my emblems and my 7 or 8 held items are pretty much what I need for my playstyle, these items have good upgrades on them as well
Now specifically for Pokemon unite aeos coins being a currency for everything is not favourable for the players because you buy Pokemon licence from these coins so you need to have enough of them. I do see how end game players wouldn't mind that but for mid game and beginners it's very hard
His "You can buy a ticket to Japan and buy a real Pikachu for that much" has big ""It's a banana, what could it cost, 10 dollars?" Energy.
I stopped playing unite for a little while and just came back to it around the time the anniversary started. They gave me so many things for free and I was able to level up quite a few items because of it. They also just give you licenses for free and give you so many options. The game is genuinely fun and I haven't once felt the need to spend money on it because I was behind
Hey I tried to play back I lost 7matches in rank match that's why uninstall
Spragels trying to be as respectful as possible after watching him play charmander potion and over commiting.
you missed the point. he is talking about p2w mobile games in general, while using the pokemon as a backdrop.
About his point on the held items, the level of the actual items might matter, but if playing correctly it doesn't really even matter what items do you even use,one of the series that spragels have done is getting to the highest ranks without using the correct items or even upgrading the held item at all. So no, you really really don't need to feel pressured to upgrade the items at all(also the item he bought are genuinely bad).
The part that made me laugh the most was (paraphrased) “imagine going into an establishment and exchanging your money for tokens that can only be used there, they wouldn’t get away with that..” immediately shows stock video of a casino.
Arcades/ Nintendo coins/ going to a different country
Its genuinely just him not knowing how to not throw a game. Hes walking into the enemy base where they can be easily supported by shields and healing in every single clip of him playing
Thanks for this video, it's sad to see big content creators spread misinformation about this game
Well he's not really a gamer
So he just say by his pov
So much time and love. 28 matches played. 💀
against bots💀
if anything, the fact he keeps losing despite all the stuff he bought is a good thing, since it means it's not as p2w as he implies
Yeah I think the only problem with p2w in Pokémon unite is the increasing prices for licenses I completely agree with you.
And first 28 matches are actually bots
The closest thing we have to a pay2win system is the emblem system, who are just little buffs that really won't win you the game if you can't play correctly.
He did got a point when saying that "we get attached to our pokemon and want to buy things for it" yes, but that's not a mobile game thing nor a Unite thing. People just love pokemon in general.
Also it's not that you need to pay to have chance at the game. Considering the gameplay he shown, it's just a massive skill issue.
How dare they asking money for their free to play game. Its desgusting that they want to be payed for their work.
As of about two weeks ago, I can say that I have EVERY item MAXED out at level 30. I simply just wanted to see how long it would take to do so. So it's just a little over a full year of consistent playing.
Damn! There is hope for me then.
unless you've enjoyed that time all that was wasted hours but in the name of science well done.
I mean level 30 isn’t necessary and there’s items that suck that I haven’t even purchased yet so why waste time leveling those up
Actually you can not do this anymore, because there were good events b4
Lmao bro just get a console and play smite or league.

Pokemon Unite isn't without its faults but you make it generously comfortable for new players and old players alike. Yeehaw 🤠❤️
I respect your take on this video! I agree that Mr's video took a hard stance on the video and didn't acknowledge that actual skill is required to succeed in this game. We can't ignore that the game can be a bit predatory however.
You do a great job of correcting the information while not attacking the person. Very classy. Even complimenting him on things he does well.
PU is one of the best free to play games I've come across, honestly, even though I did spend some money knit. But given the amount of time I have spent playing, I have no problem with spending a bit. It wasn't free to create and someone has to support the devs.
I agree LMAO, I haven't spent anything on this game, yet I've been on masters since the 1st season. 😹
Isn’t the issue that newcomers are against most people who started at season 1 and mostly have lvl 30 items? I think it’s difficult for new players competing with players who have both boost emblems and upgraded items.
