    As a young child, I group-up watching the The Bob Newhart Show. Like you mentioned, it became an extension of our comfort zone, where we identified with the creature comforts of Bob & Emily's world. From the decor & colors, to their daily routines, we lived through their experiences & perspective. I've worked for the phone company for over 21-years, and would have loved to work buildings like that of Bob's Apartment & Office. The phones with lights, bells, & buzzers - getting to meet the people, in the timeframe of the mid to late 1970's. Your tour gives closure to a part of my youth & memories of Bob & Emily. In a word.... Thanks! :)

    More memories. I loved Saturday nights when you started off with "All in the Family" at 8:00, another show that changed around a bit at 8:30, (I mostly remember "Bridget Loves Bernie" and one about a country doctor) "Mary Tyler Moore" at 9:00 and "Bob Newhart" at 9:30. Saturdays was the best TV night. I loved how Bob could say something funny with a straight face and rather bland voice but it would be hilarious. Later on I knew a man who had the same kind of demeanor. He reminded me of Bob with his deadpan humor. Now I want to see all of the Bob Newhart show again.

    Another fantastic video. Carol must have had some pull with the architect, since it would have made much more sense for her desk to be facing the elevators, so she could see who got off. [another TV need, as they wanted her facing the camera].

    • @ajs11201
      @ajs11201 2 года назад +5

      Yes, I've always thought about that as well. The positioning of her horseshoe desk with its back to the elevators made for good TV, but would have been a horrible orientation in the real world. Same with the Brady Bunch kitchen--poor Alice must have clocked an extra 10,000 steps a day prepping each meal. That backwards el kitchen design made for great filming, but would have been awful in the real world.

    I’d love to see The Golden Girls. I know it’s an architectural nightmare but if anyone can do it, you could. I always thought the lanai would be in the side/backyard off of an office or a formal dining room we never get to see…since when looking at the front of the house in set up scene, there’s clearly a room there.
    In the pilot, Blanche’s bedroom appears to be there. However, in every episode after, it was at the end of the hall. Walking down the hall, I think a bathroom and then Rose’s room both on the left. Sophia’s room and Dorothy’s room would be on the right. I base that on how the rooms are entered during a scene. You could do it!
    When the girls come into the kitchen thru the little room, I think that’s the laundry. Since they often leave the house this way; that means a concrete walk crosses underneath the kitchen window, turns right and goes along the refrigerator wall, along the side of the garage and out to the driveway. So the fourth wall of the kitchen would be the garage wall with a door that they mysteriously never use. I’ve spent hours thinking about all this! Feel free to use.

    This is great. Even as a kid, I thought the layout of the Hartley apartment was weird, and thought "Well no wonder those shutters above their bed are closed -- the window opens up to the elevator lobby!" And the sunken living room would be... unusual... for a high-rise. But it's a wonderful visualization; well done.

    This was so good I had to watch it again!! Excellent job! I love this show!! Yes in the den there was a bathrrom there's a scene where we get to see it. Carol decided that she wanted to date Howard but quickly realized that was a mistake! He goes in the den bathroom to avoid embarrassment when learns that Carol rejected him. Carol, Bob , and Emily go after him to console him. It's a good one! Season 1 ep.12. Thanks Marina!

    Bob Newhart and Suzanne Pleshette were such a perfect on-screen couple. Have you seen the interview where Suzanne Pleshette talks about the final scene from NEWHART? She went to great efforts not to be seen by the cast and crew, and she didn't go to the series After-Party. Why? Because she didn't want to steal attention away from Mary Fran. Pleshette was a class act.

    • @MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane
      @MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane  2 года назад +2

      Yes! I saw that interview. I also liked when she talked about how they couldn't rehearse, since they had to keep it a secret. They only had one chance to get the audience's genuine response. Nerve wracking. But she also mentioned that she just hoped the light switch by the headboard was in the same place as on the old show. 😊

    My Favorite Den was on The Brady Bunch. So much History in there. Mike going over the Bills, Grounding Greg, cheering Jan up who felt she was living in Marcia's Shadow, having a Man to Man talk with Bobby about Girls. Telling Marcia to go to bed after ruining some plans and staying up late. Mike should have locked the door when he wasn't there and only have Carol, and Alice have access other than him. Also He like Alice had a Typewriter. I wonder why Alice never got hers repaired. The Music you are playing sounds so much like The Music from a Charles Schulz Documentary.

    The Bob Newhart Show was one of the best sitcoms from the 70s, right up there with All In The Family and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Thanks for this neat tour! You showed a picture of 2 characters from a couple of my favorite episodes. Debbie, who couldn't do anything right, as Carol's temporary replacement, and the little old lady played by Merie Earle, who was in the episode "Bob Has To Have His Tonsils Out." She played a volunteer in the the hospital having to deal with an very irritated Bob, he finally insults her, and she comes back at him, "Merry Christmas Mr. Scrooge!"

    You did an incredible job! After “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” this was my next all time favorite comedy. Bob is my favorite comedian … I loved seeing every nook and cranny! I loved your comments on why these homes and shows mean so much to us. My husband and I love watching these old shows…they do bring back a simpler time where we felt safe … just love the nostalgia … and the humor holds up. Bob and Suzanne and crew all were so great. Being a couple who couldn’t have kids, this show also gives voice to us ( I was even an elementary school teacher like Emily!) Thank you for doing these. I love your channel.

    Great job Marina. I was 14 when _The Bob Newhart Show_ began in the early 70s. Unfortunately I missed the first season because my family only had the one television and I was always outvoted by my younger siblings.
    I didn't have to put up with that after a friend of mine gave me a television for my room.
    You showed areas in their apartment that I'd never seen. Howard Borland's apartment from across the hallway was much more to my taste. He had that nice stereo system and his bar was a rolling cart filled with about 200 little airline liquor bottles. Bill Daly passed away 4 years ago at age 91. I believe Bob Newhart and the dentist Peter Bonerz are the only ones still alive.
    Looking forward to your next project. 😄👍

    Once again, marvelous content! I really enjoyed the phone call from Bob at the beginning 😂. I nearly jumped off the couch when you said how Bob's apartment set resembles the MTM apartment, because I was thinking exactly the same thing. I love the research you did for this one to get the right finishing creative touches! I think the most intriguing part of Bob's apartment is the passageway that goes between the living room and the den. It's hard to imagine a normal-sized person making their way through that passage, let alone trying to move furniture through there in real life. Thank you for recreating a bit of the Stratford Inn!!! My family watched that show routinely throughout the mid-to-late 1980's. You are so right about people tuning in to see the entire ensemble of the original Bob Newhart show. Though most of the situations surrounded Bob's character, you couldn't wait to see all of the colorful characters he was surrounded by! Same with Newhart in the 1980's. And I just loved the jazzy elevator Muzak you included in this one!!! It fits perfectly.

    • @MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane
      @MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane  Год назад +1

      Thank you! It would be tricky work getting the furniture back to the den. In real life, they would have to disassemble it. Glad you liked the phone call. It was a little out of my comfort zone, but, hey - it's Bob Newhart - there had to be a phone call. 😁

    Another awesome video. Thank you, Marina. Your videos make me happy and grateful that I lived in an era when I could watch these shows the first time they aired. Yes, these shows were comforting. That's why I still watch them nowadays. I like these old 1960s and 1970s shows far better than modern shows. People sometimes scoff at the interior designs of those eras, but I have to admit that I like the color pallet they used then and I found the furnishings very homey and relaxing. They were warm and inviting and the scale was much nicer. Modern furniture seems so cold, sterile, and scaled much larger which I personally do not like. Anyway, thank you again for making such a charming video. I love your videos and your channel.
