Gonna warn you now bud, the "Slowly reaching for an object" mechanic becomes a series mainstay... and it's annoying. Though if you play the games on the Wii, like Lunar Eclipse, you can tell when you're bout to get grabbed since the Wii will loudly load.
Old big green van from the 80s. Chevy. Friends made fun of me for having a shag wagon with nothing to shag, so the name Bomb Shelter ended up being what stuck due to me being in ROTC and the inside looking like a stripped bunker
My personal theory on the bad ending is that Sae catches up and kills Mio. Then, Mio waking up back at the beginning of the game without Mayu is basically her ghost is now trapped inside the lost village's 'time loop', now being continuously tormented like the dead villagers' ghosts, constantly reliving the events of her trying to find her sister...but always failing. If that's the case, yes the bad ending IS harsh.
Technically Jared there is a twist but it's in the Japanese version only. You are misled about which twin is supposed to be sacrificed the entire time. The village has a weird way of designating who needs to perish. The village uses a different way of determining who is older. It is clear if you play it with the Japanese dub, in which Mio calls Mayu "Onee-chan", which I believe means "older sister" in an affectionate way. In the Japanese you believe your sister is going to strangle you until the end. It makes the possessions more terrifying and the ending more depressing.
@@AvalancheReviews It *is* still in the US release, it's just more subtle and ambiguous for most of the game since we don't have the language confirmation of which twin is "older" like in Japanese.
Been watching for 5 years. Still one of my favorite channels on RUclips. Every video is like hanging out with a cool ass friend talking about cool ass games
Just because you didn't bring it up; there is a *massive* connection between FF1 and FF2. Yae, Sae's twin that escaped, is the *same* Yae from FF1 that is Miku and Mafuyu's great-grandmother. So Yae from FF2, actually ends up going insane and hanging herself in Himuro Mansion, and the Folklorist Assistant who travelled to the village with the dude who became the Kusabi ends up as her husband who also dies at Himuro. So there is a direct through-line from Yae to Miku, and Yae is likely the source of Miku and Mafuyu's abilities.
I think a lot of people forget the names and end up not picking up on this. Almost every family tree in the first and second game have a connection. If you write down all the names and just circle repeating ones, there is a clear line through. It isn't just the family lines that links them; the theme of being treated as an object is in both. It's kinda funny how he pointed out how dehumanizing this situation is and then remarked the doll makers story was a fancy set up to a puzzle. In the first game Kirie is supposed to dismiss her humanity and this is continued with these twins. The past three rituals failed because none of the twins could preform them due to attachments. The doll maker went so far as to make a literal object for a replacement as if that compares to an actual human. He didn't spend time with his remaining daughter or help her with processing the situation, he gave her a doll and ignored the situation until it was too late.
Thank you for covering this game so quickly! I felt a bit pained by your review of the first one, and happy to enjoy a more positive review of the sequel :) I was big into both games as a teen. As a side note, I friggin' love Sae for some reason. I think she's a great in-game ghost, and definitely one of my favorite female horror villains. I also just loved the image of her standing in a blood-soaked kimono surrounded by bodies, and her laugh was just frosting on the creepy ghost cake.
This game. If you pay attention to the twin ghost. Sai. Yai. Is her sister from the "first game". So this game happens 1st in chronological order then the 1st game happens some time later.
I emulated ff1 and did not have hardly any of the issues you had aside from one bug from emulation on the final boss which was remedied by a setting change. Your scaling set up must of done something wild for you to have all that trouble. I remember having way more healing items in ff1 than I ever did in ff2 for instance. Love your vids man!
Spoiler for people who wanna play, but safe for Avalanche *Sorry about my English btw* About why Mio goes along with the ritual, in one of the endings of Fatal Frame 2 *Wii* shows that Mio was also being possessed but in her case by Yae. Of course in the PS2 this is not present, but could be an explanation Which could also explain why after strangling her sister, she kinda seems lost and doesn't understand why she did it. *You can notice her reaction in the ending of Fatal Frame 2 PS2*
It's been quite a long time so I'm unsure how effectively this information is relayed in game (and honestly apologize if this is information that comes about in the third game as well that I'm jumping ahead for) but it's worth noting. If you're considering the tangible connections between the games, the woman who hangs herself in the courtyard in the first game after her daughter disappears because of the game of demon tag? ... That's Yae. She's cared for after her escape by Ryozo, the younger folklorist that was friends with Itsuki and Mutsuki. They fall in love, have a child, Mikoto. Mikoto disappears, but she comes back alive after wandering the forest. By then her parents have both killed themselves. She has a daughter, Miyuki - Miku and Mafuyu's mother. Yae and Miyuki's resemblance is noted in the games if disjointedly - they both committed suicide by hanging in a Sakura garden. It's not coincidence, and the Camera plays a large role in the fate of the family.
Sae's laugh will always send chills down my spine. It's one of the reasons why I love her as an FF antagonist, especially with the section where you don't have your camera. The Doll Maker and Kiryu twin's house is another favorite of mine from things like when the camera changes and suddenly, one of the twins is just standing there being extra creepy to the audio during the fight as you try to figure out whether the doll or girl is approaching you.
@@AvalancheReviews that’s awesome! I hope you enjoy 3. It’s probably the most captivating storyline in the series imo, deals quite heavily with grief & being unable to let go.
This game along with the original scared the absolute shit out of me as a teenager. Maybe things have changed since but for a while those were just downright the scariest games I ever played. Even over silent Hill 2 and 3 Two things do it for me, one is I just have an irrational fear of anything related to ghosts/spirits/demon hauntings The second being the fact that even in Silent Hill you get a damn gun. Having nothing but a camera really made things uneasy.
2 is absolutely my favorite game in the series, with 3 close behind. That said, as flawed as some entries are, I don’t think there’s a single bad game in the series. At worst I’m still having fun with them, even if the latest entries don’t hold up to the PS2 hay day.
I totally agree. There are parts that I don't like about all of them, but I'm glad I played them. It's just such a unique vibe. You really can't get it anywhere else.
As someone who will defend the Wii as the best console ever made for reasons I'll state... But before then I will say that when a Wii game has bad controls it has a deeper bottom of bad than a standard controller. Just because of the almost Kama sutra like guide and moves you need to pull off. When it's bad it's sheep baaaaaaaaaaaad. But when the controls are good? Nothing compares period. So why do I find the Wii the best console? 1. It has some of the best and most unique games of any system. Whether they were games that rely on wii mote gimmicks or try their best to circumvent it for a more traditional game. 2. The controls are some of the best when done right (which was few and far between in all fairness). As a long time channel surfer through the 80s and 90s it was as if I was born to wield it. 3. Due to the controls scheme it provided developers with a breath of fresh air on how they approach games and the types they could make. They had more freedom by not being shackled to a standard controller nor running the risk of needing to sell a peripheral for the games success. A short list of some amazing games include. Pandoras Tower Xenoblade Chronicles Farewell to the Moon (forgot the full title) The Last Story No More Heroes, also 2. Silent Hill Shattered Memories (I'm a black sheep when it comes to my preference for that one) Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 Red Steel 2 Cursed Mountain (horrendous controls but...the game and idea behind it pushes it enough for me as an experience). A myriad of others I'll spare you from having to read. Lastly...it can be considered cheating but access to the GameCube games and at least before it shut down the shop access to a huge library of games from turbo grafx, Nintendo and other systems. The system really did provide an oasis at a time when the other companies did have some great games as well but many companies seemed to focus on resigning similar games as either third person or first person action games. Endoldmanrantwhohasbeenplayongaincecommodore64.
Nice coverage of another legendary series! If I can make a request Jared... can you cover Crow Country? Im having such a blast with these indie titles feeling really spoiled after Signalis and tormented souls and I think you'll love this one
Thank you for covering this franchise. Fatal Frame 3 really spooked me when I was playing it as a teenager. There was something about it that really got under my skin and unnerved me, whereas1 and 2 didn't give me that "uncomfortable" feeling. Loved both videos and am looking forward to more. :)
I thought the folklorist from 2 had a connection to the siblings from 1. Maybe I'm misrembering. Also, it was a thing in pre-modern Japan for parents to kill one of a set of twins. Not for any magic ritual reasons; just because having two children at once was seen as animalistic and uncivilized. Which is arguably worse.
I remember a third ending where both sisters survive. It was something about Mio sacrificing her sight by staring into the hell void. The twins then find themselves outside the village with Mio completely blind and having to rely on Mayu. While Mayu seems genuine in her want to help her sister, she also has a bit of a sinister smirk. I think it's because, in some perverse way, she knows Mio won't ever be able to leave her behind again.
That was added for the Wii Remake and you have to beat the Wii Remake on it's hardest difficulty to get that ending. And yeah Mayu's sinister smirk is because she now realizes with Mio being completely blind she is now completely dependent on her and has no choice but to stay by her side forever and ever.
I remember hating this ending because it was added for the Xbox release, and everyone was going on about how it was the superior ending that should have been made canon. It felt like such a cop out when death of one of the twins is exactly the point of the story. Otherwise, what was FF3 meant to be? Just a dream?
I've been waiting for this moment for SO MUCH. This is the scariest pice of art I've ever experienced. I was a huge survival horror fan all my life, was completley in love with SH and RE and had always heard about fatal frame but never played. Then, my ex's cousin bought this game on psn and it I coudn't put in words how much I loved it. It is, together with SH2, Signalis and RE: Remake my favorite game of all time, and it may be the best game out of the four.
@@AvalancheReviews I Just rewatched the video and noticed that you may have missed something that made the combat so much harder for you: It looks like to me that you made your whole combat revolve around Fatal Frames, and those only happen in a REALLY small window, like less than a second maybe. I always played with a focus on the zero shots, the ones where the lens become red. The amout of damage they do is significally bigger and they are much easer to pull off. The ONLY thing that bothered me about the game, after playing it a lot, is that I wished it was more "survival", with less health and ammo around, because if you focus on the zero shots, the game is waaaaaaaay easier, maybe too much so. So imagine my surprise when I saw you saiying it was too difficult 😅 Maybe give it a go again when you can and try playing it with this strategy, insted of going only for fatal frames. I'm sure it will make the game click better with you, at least difficulty wise
Jared ive been following your channel since the early RE retrospective days and your content has only improved. I look forward to every one of your uploads, keep enjoying Japan man you rock!
As I crammed myself into my crowded Tokyo train this morning, I was overjoyed to see a new Avalanche Reviews video, especially of one of my favorite survival horror games..❤
The thing I remember most about this game the most is the Spirit Stone Radio. The execution of that little side activity was the most unintentional funniest part of the game. I'm pretty sure almost all the recordings were just ghosts complaining and not really adding anything other than filler. Me and some friends would joke constantly about them, making up our own little wails like "I'm getting snacks. So alone... so alone." In that sort of tired raspy voice.
I listened to 2 or 3 of them and never touched another one again. Same for part 3. You can get audio recordings in that game too, but listening to them is even more cumbersome.
This is the avalanche review I’ve been waiting for since the early days of this channel. One of my favorite games of all time. I’m at work rn but I know it’s going to be a treat and an amazing start to my weekend once I’m home and got everything set up to watch. To say I’m excited is an understatement 😅.
My favorite horror game of all time, thank you for covering it. I’m a bit surprised at your lack of praise for it…It seems as though you’re comparing it to something that doesn’t exist, but I understand if you’re not into it. This is the SH2 of FF. I don’t think you’ll like 3 any more than 2, but it is very good. The Wii remake is an abomination, thank you for doing that justice. After 3 the series goes to hell, somewhat like the SH series. I’m not sure where you got the idea that somehow it was going to get better here from here, rather than reaching its peak. As far as most are concerned, you just played the peak of the series. If you mean to suggest that you think they can do better, I agree. But so could SH2. I apologize for coming off argumentative here, I’m just a bit blown away at the lack of, personal enjoyment? you had for it.
Always great videos! Not going to say you jinx it, but ya may jinx it lol. If i do recall, I think Yae does tie losely into first game. Which man that is some bad luck for her! Keep up the great stuff man! Also, first car, Hyundai Accent! Zoomie!
I know that Mayu's injury happened 10 years in the past yet she is still bandaged made me think with a knee injury like that would need years of treatment like physio and surgeries. I actually thought she was still bandaged because she recently had surgery on it. No proof, just fan theory lol. 💝
Bruh, this series is probably one of my favorite horror franchise second only to the RE series. Can't wait to watch your review of the rest of the series. This game is the peak of the series and the 3rd got a little too back track-y for my taste but still has an awesome story. I have all the games in my steam deck so I can get scared outta my pants everywhere!
You know what's funny about the Wii version? I emulated it out of curiosity with the mouse as the wii mote, and after cranking up the sensitivity to a more manageable state, playing the wii version on keyboard and mouse feels... So natural, lol. Makes me curious to see what the PC version of 4 and 5 are like with these controls. You're a tough critic but you are also fair, I am very happy to see you covering one of my all time favourite series!
The thing about the main ending is that Mio doesn't willingly go along with it, it's heavily implied (and the Xbox exclusive good ending confirms it) Mio is partially possessed by Yae's spirit, so the moment she passes the Shinto gate into the ceremony site, she's basically in a trance, which is why you see Mio acting like she just woke up upon realizing what she just did. As for Mayu's bandage and limp, well, it's not too complicated, putting two and two together from the time between her injury and the events of the game, that fall was nasty enough to leave her with a permanent limp, those things do tend to happen, when an injury leaves you lasting effects even after it healed.
There is a stone monument right in front of the village when the game starts. It was also seen in one of the cut scene and was mentioned in text documents as well. It seem to be something more but it never play any part in the game story. Have always wondered whether i have missed some details over its significance and impirtance if there were any to it.
It's really funny how when someone wants to talk bad about anything any excuse can be enough. I've played every "Fatal Frame" related stuff since original hardware and now with emulators and I can say for sure that the first trilogy it's not as bad as he point them to be. God forsake us is he goes past FF3 because that'll really be a hard ride. I can only say that if you're new to the franchise, you don't know anything about Fatal Frame and this videos are just first approach to the games don't take them as the last word. Go an experiment them yourself as the first trilogy is truly a thing to remember 😊
I think it’s pretty disingenuous to say that he’s trying to talk bad about the series at all. Jared may have a different take than you, and you may not agree with some of his conclusions or what he prioritizes, but that doesn’t mean he’s sitting there trying to dislike the games. And also, generally speaking, he has plenty of good things to say. You act like he’s just trashing them and saying they’re terrible, which in no way is what’s happening in these videos at all. Look, I get that it’s not fun to hear somebody criticize something special to you, especially when you don’t agree at all with that criticism, but that doesn’t mean it’s coming from a place of bad faith. It really can just be a difference of opinion. If anybody was stoked as hell to play and wanted to love a survival horror game, it’s Jared here.
18:57; why does the author keep repeating how odd and out of place it is that ghosts can move stuff with their hands? 1. It's fiction. 2. It's a damn video game 😅! 3. In how many movies, books etc. in the history of humankind were ghosts able to move objects around? 100s if not 1000s? Given the above, why is it so "weird" 🤔?
23:00 It does, the sister that run away, with the folklorists assistant appeared in the first game. "Ryozo is reintroduced in Fatal Frame II as a student of Seijiro Makabe's. Makabe headed to Minakami Village to research the traditions of the place and Ryozo tried to find out what happened to his childhood friends, Itsuki and Mutsuki Tachibana. Following the instructions of Itsuki's letter, he helped Yae escape from the village when the time came, and took her in when her home vanished into the night."
This was the only Fatal Frame, hell, only horror game, I was even interested in playing. I admit I'm a big chicken when it comes to horror games and films, but I LOVE horror stories, so you and Let's Players are a god send.
The controls in Project Zero 2 Wii edition is actually best emulated! The Wii remote controls suck BUT on dolphin , you can very easily map the controls to a controller and it feels GREAT! No more motion controls because you can even map the Wiimote shake to a button. I know you wrote this after finishing FFMOTLE but if you ever choose to emulate that game, using a regular controller on dolphin actually feels more fluid than the remaster’s controls! also wish you would’ve mentioned the newly added cutscenes that develop Mio and Mayu’s relationship to give this game some more credit ♥️
The small issue that snowballed for me was the constant buzzing noise the Camera Obscura makes when you're charging your shots. The first game's charge-up animation and clear audio cues made so much sense and had a bit of style to it. By comparison, the muted orange meter over slightly more muted orange made it unclear for me.
I didn't notice if the camera does less damage here, but I do think the fights are longer, especially when it's against multiple enemies. I do like the idea of hitting all of them in a single shot, but to do that you need to actually find the right moment or position yourself correctly and both of them aren't easy to do in my opinion. Also, for the ending, I think it's implied that even Mio is possessed and that's why she immediately cried and chased after Mayu's butterfly. However, my personal interpretation is that they both knew it had to be done for everyone's sake, which is indeed the main theme of the series overall.
I still remember my older brother and I abandonded the game after 1/2 way through the first FF because it was too scary...I only just finally completed the 1st game a few years ago. I am really hoping they do a remake for the first 3 games for future generation to enjoy. For me, these absolute classics.
Can't wait for Fatal Frame III. My fav entry of the series and the most intriguing story wise imo. Manor of Sleep is a cool setting with its lore and stuff.
Awesome retrospective. I've just realised that I forgot to comment on the first game. Crimson Butterfly is definitely the more refined but I think that you summed it up well. There is nothing broken about 1 but it was clear what made 2 a more polished game. I got gifted a working Xbox and I dug out my old discs so I'm slowly playing through 1 and really looking forward to 2. Although my friends were better gamers, I'm realising how much better my 20-year-old brain could work my hands vs my 42-year-old mush. Silent Hill and Resident Evil were my introduction to Survival Horror but the original Xbox had some great titles that I love to this day. These two, Obscure and The Thing. I've just listened to your short videos on the last two from 10 YEARS AGO!!!
The Xbox version of this one was my introduction to Fatal Frame. I don't get scared by games easily, especially on replays. This one still scares the hell out of me to this day.
19:37 Ehhh, that seems a bit too blatant/on the nose; why not end on that same shot, only Mio now has white hair and fade to credits/menu as she begins to sob?
I think the key to Fatal Frame and it's emphasis on cultic sacrifice is the simple fact that the act has actual consequences on the spiritual realm. Cultic activity in Western media is ultimately revealed to be a superstitious sham, it's just some front for weirdos in hoods to get their rocks off killing people to appease the deity of the week. In Japanese media, it's like "gee this sucks, but so does the entire world being overrun with actual, literal demons." It would be one thing if Fatal Frame's ghosts were all psychological projections of the protag's inner turmoil, but the series has the balls to say "yeah, ghosts are real, and so is the hellmouth y'all keeping letting open" lmao. Great video as always.
One of the best survival horror games ever, my spine still shivers whenever I remember those nights of the mid 2000s. And I don't know about USA, but the Wii remake was released in PAL territories.
I haven't played Fatal Frame titles in ages (played through all the installments save for the 5th one) but from the memories I had, combat is definitely something I think Fatal Frame got wrong most of the time. At first, it may sound scary to face the ghosts directly using a camera, but due to how easy it is to actually stagger the enemies using Zero shots (or even Fatal Frame shots, since the timing is awfully forgiving) and how encounters are more than often mandatory to fight againsts (making the player too accustomed to the ghosts), combined with the overall easy difficulty of the game, the survival part of Fatal Frame is often nonexistent for me save for the very few times they use instant kill enemies (Kusabi, Sae, Reika). Not saying the game is bad obviously, because I really enjoyed it as something that's more leaning towards atmospheric horror than survival because man, the game is good at building up atmosphere.
I mean, would you really want a hell gate open? On another note, it does make me think that it's one of those think of the group mentality that I hear about with Japan. Like the don't cause too much of a fuss even though everyone knows the boss is kind of a scum bag.
Another great retrospective. But Jared, my brother. You're still using RE item pickup SFX for the vignettes. Ever since that last SH video I cant stop noticing it. I know it's so minute and doesnt really affect the video, but it's that attention to detail that really immerses me into whichever retrospective you're working on.
Looking forward to seeing you play FFIII, IV, V!! Also shame about how there isnt much Fratal Frame OST available bar the gamerips. I enjoyed the Lunar Eclipse BGM though 😁
This is making me wanna pick up the games asap. Thankfully they're available digitally on PS3 but I would like to expand my Xbox library especially with horror games.
I guess the third review is coming out soon, if you stick to your 2 week schedule. I don't always agree with your perspective, but I have come to really enjoy your reviews over the last couple of years. Too bad you don't have more subscribers, tho. Anyway, it is such a shame the developers took such a long time to figure out certain improvements, despite the obvious feedback.
Yeah, the 3rd one should be live in a few days. Glad to have given you a bit of entertainment over the years! Let's hope for a few more years. Cheers dawg!
@@AvalancheReviews Cheers to you as well. Hope you cover Crow Country after finishing with the FF series retrospective, despite it being a small indie title and a new release.
The Wii version was the first FF game I played and I loved every second of it. I didn't mind the controls too much. I enjoyed the combat system, the graphics, the story, the atmosphere and the sound design. Since you didn't seem to have played the Wii version to the end, it has 6 different endings, some of them pretty harsh, only 2 of them are somewhat "good endings". I also don't recall enemies being invulnerable or the 3 kids being that difficult in this version, maybe they changed it.
Love the story of this game but personally i find the combat really easy, I agree with your criticisms about the wii version i kept getting cramp in my wrist from trying to stop the drift and the voices do not fit the characters they just made me laugh. Also did you know there is a Fatal frame film released in 2014 would be really interested in seeing a review Jarred.
Thanks for the video, Jared! The series has been pretty slow for years, so it's nice to re-visit them with you. Despite the improvements, I think FF2 is weaker than the first. It improved on graphics and voice acting (which is to be expected). Mechanically, the only real improvements are the quick select between film, the addition of the type 7 film, and more emphasis on multiple enemy encounters. Otherwise, the repeat ghost encounters are worse, the story is a rehash of the first game with worse pacing, and the enemy design is also a rehash or more boring. Half the time, the ghosts just look like zombies. The village is mostly just a series of small houses, not very different from the mansion in the first game. And the camera makes an incredibly irritating buzzing sound when a fatal frame or shudder chance is possible. It's still an excellent game and one of the greats of survival horror, but I much prefer the first.
I'm probably biased, because I grew up playing the fatal frame games. To this day I don't remember if I finished the first one, it only took me so long with the second because yes I got scared while playing, but wanted to see the ending of the story. With the third.. Omg.. The manor of sleep was toooo big.. I just finished watching the gameplay of Fatal Frame 4 Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, and it was much better than I expected, now trying to play it on pc and I can say, with most fatal frame games you need a controler with thumbsticks for walking and controling the camera otherwise forget it.. I tried playing the 5th one on pc and it was only possible bc the ghost move slow, ok they all didn't move slow.. with the 4th, they don't stop moving... Basically, in my opinion using the keyboard and mouse don't work with playing games like Fatal Frame..
I think you will enjoy Fatal frame 4 mask of the lunar eclipse ps4/ps5 HD remaster. I never got to play the Wii U version as in never was released to the west and I never owned a Wii U. Story wise and scenery is amazing in the 4th entry. Atmosphere is absolutely amazing!! I was so excited to see the second entry on your channel. This franchise has been my favourite for the longest time. 😊😊 For more info about the lore, culture and background on this franchise check out the RUclips channel, Tara A Devlin. The Wii is the only Nintendo home console I have never owned, but purchasing a Wii U gave me access to the few Wii games I really wanted to experience like SH: shattered memoires and some of the obscure Atlus and Xseed distributed titles. When the Wii released and was contemporary I had so much disdain for it and everything it was attempting to do in gaming, but there are select titles that definitely need to be played

That actually fits. i could see that being the case.

I think a lot of people forget the names and end up not picking up on this. Almost every family tree in the first and second game have a connection. If you write down all the names and just circle repeating ones, there is a clear line through.
It isn't just the family lines that links them; the theme of being treated as an object is in both.
She definitely has a great origin story. That scene with her laughing is pretty damn effective.
Spoiler for people who wanna play, but safe for Avalanche
*Sorry about my English btw*
About why Mio goes along with the ritual, in one of the endings of Fatal Frame 2 *Wii* shows that Mio was also being possessed but in her case by Yae.
Of course in the PS2 this is not present, but could be an explanation
Which could also explain why after strangling her sister, she kinda seems lost and doesn't understand why she did it.
That's actually a really cool connection to the first game!!
I've had a few people comment something similar about Sae. It's cool to see how effective she was as a character.
Oh shit. More Jared already? Sweet.
The next 4 videos have already had their scripts finished. So there should be a lot of videos coming in a short amount of time pretty soon.
@@AvalancheReviews can't wait
Seeing a Fatal Frame retrospective makes me excited that we may one day see you cover the PS3 Episodic Survival Horror Game "Siren: Blood Curse".....
I’d love to see that!
I was NOT expecting this so soon! You keep us fed with good content 😭😭
Get used to it because I'm working on the next one as we speak.
@@AvalancheReviews that’s awesome! I hope you enjoy 3. It’s probably the most captivating storyline in the series imo, deals quite heavily with grief & being unable to let go.
Friday, and a new Avalanche video? Hell yeah
Thank you so so much!!! Hope you liked the video
Trying to catch up on your videos Jared and you always pull all the stops on this one. Thanks a major ton my man and keep up the great work!
I've been trying to get back to the more regular schedule. There's about to be a bunch of dope stuff coming in a short time.
This game along with the original scared the absolute shit out of me as a teenager.
Maybe things have changed since but for a while those were just downright the scariest games I ever played. Even over silent Hill 2 and 3
Two things do it for me, one is I just have an irrational fear of anything related to ghosts/spirits/demon hauntings
The second being the fact that even in Silent Hill you get a damn gun.
Pandoras Tower
Xenoblade Chronicles
Farewell to the Moon (forgot the full title)
The Last Story
No More Heroes, also 2.
Silent Hill Shattered Memories (I'm a black sheep when it comes to my preference for that one)
Super Mario Galaxy 1/2
Red Steel 2
Cursed Mountain (horrendous controls but...the game and idea behind it pushes it enough for me as an experience).

Nice coverage of another legendary series!
If I can make a request Jared... can you cover Crow Country? Im having such a blast with these indie titles feeling really spoiled after Signalis and tormented souls and I think you'll love this one
I'd love to see him cover it!
@grawman67 i actually just finished it, its fantastic, not perfect but really enjoyable :)
@@JammedClipper Glad to hear it! I've been wanting to pick it up!
54:00 Do a Trauma Center Retrospective, it'll probably be the only reason to stop doing that.
Very nice. Crimson Butterfly is my fav of the whole series, so its great to see you cover it.
Off topic but Jared has a calming voice, been listening to these on flights and before bed
My personal favorite in the series. Also that ending plus the optional end boss just made it so much better.
Oh wow! So you got into the series kind of recently? That's dope as hell. I definitely agree 2 has the best total package out of the other FF games.
So imagine my surprise when I saw you saiying it was too difficult 😅
Maybe give it a go again when you can and try playing it with this strategy, insted of going only for fatal frames. I'm sure it will make the game click better with you, at least difficulty wise
Oh, I never finished the first game because it had "issues".
It was just that scary to play for me.
Jared ive been following your channel since the early RE retrospective days and your content has only improved. I look forward to every one of your uploads, keep enjoying Japan man you rock!

Finally after how many years you’re covering fatal frame lol I gave up on commenting every video asking you to like 3 years ago😊😊
Listen, I need to take my time with these things! I can't just rush into a video. I need at least a few years to really think about it. HAAA!
@@AvalancheReviews I’m just happy you finally gave the series a real go, it was a hard sell to me at first too until I finally played the series
Fatal Frame 1-3 are the only one's I would replay over and over!
You've set me up with way too high of expectations!!!
Same here! Been waiting since I first subscribed 🎉
There's scarier horror games. Can't be your favourite if it's not scary.
Always great videos! Not going to say you jinx it, but ya may jinx it lol. If i do recall, I think Yae does tie losely into first game. Which man that is some bad luck for her!
Keep up the great stuff man!
Also, first car, Hyundai Accent! Zoomie!
Thanks dawg!!
Sooo glad ur covering this series!! There’s nothing like the camera obscura mechanic & the ghosts being face to face with you 😭
It's nice to finally be tackling the series
I know that Mayu's injury happened 10 years in the past yet she is still bandaged made me think with a knee injury like that would need years of treatment like physio and surgeries. I actually thought she was still bandaged because she recently had surgery on it. No proof, just fan theory lol. 💝
FF2, like a fine wine, aged beautifully.
Love your videos! Never played these, probably never will, but I've enjoyed your company over the last hour.
I may not agree with you on everything you've ever said... But damn do I agree with hating on the Wii's controls.
That comfy feeling when Jared posts a new video😊
Get ready for untold levels of comfy. I'm gonna get these next few videos out fast.
Great Video! This was definitely one of the scariest games... experiences ever!
Yeah all the stuff around it made it look like they performed ceremonies there.
That would honestly be great.
Fatal frame 2 is the best one out of the whole series.
Fatal Frame 2 is a great game!
Man, Obscure on the Xbox is still so much fun!!!
They definitely could have made it a little more impactful.
Great video man!
Thank you
I love your style man, your approach to content is refreshing & bright yet dark & eerie where it needs to be.
@@AvalancheReviews Definitely dig the content you out out! Long time fan.
Another good video to add to the awesome video list 😉
That's a good list to be on
Wish they port the PS2 Trilogy to PC too, maybe use the Xbox ports as base plus QoL and bonus content to boot.
That would be so amazing
Huy que buen video, ahora a verlo. 🦧
One of the best survival horror games ever, my spine still shivers whenever I remember those nights of the mid 2000s. And I don't know about USA, but the Wii remake was released in PAL territories.
Yep. Just PAL territories and Japan.
That is very much a thing here.
And the other endings?... I even think that the Xbox version had an extra ending and the Wii version even more extra endings... :S
I'm not sure that I care enough to beat the game again on nightmare difficulty, just to see a few seconds of new video.
What I love the most is all of this do converge on the 3rd game 😍
Another great retrospective. But Jared, my brother. You're still using RE item pickup SFX for the vignettes. Ever since that last SH video I cant stop noticing it. I know it's so minute and doesnt really affect the video, but it's that attention to detail that really immerses me into whichever retrospective you're working on.
Hi hello are you doing a retrospective of the siren games in the future ?
Maybe one day, but right now I don't have any plans.
actually one of the prior attempts was the kusabi, the 2 creepy girls with the doll are probably earlier and probably suceeded
I remember waking up at around 2am to my aunt beating Fatal Frame 2. That ending was so surreal haha.. I was 9 at the time.
Yo your aunt sounds awesome.
I wonder if they will remaster the wii version or the xbox director's cut version for the ps4/ps5 and xbox series x/s, xbox one and ofc the switch
Looking forward to seeing you play FFIII, IV, V!! Also shame about how there isnt much Fratal Frame OST available bar the gamerips. I enjoyed the Lunar Eclipse BGM though 😁

Every since I saw a comment saying that's what it sounds like, I try so hard to space the two words out. HA!
@AvalancheReviews it actually sounded like it this time, but I have to give you a hard time, friend.
This is making me wanna pick up the games asap. Thankfully they're available digitally on PS3 but I would like to expand my Xbox library especially with horror games.
They're pretty damn great on Xbox.
This and Silent Hill 3 are the only two games that legit scared the shit out of me as a kid. Easily one of the best horror games of all time.
Love it, keep it up!

Thanks for the vid
I can definitely agree about that noise when you're charging up a shot. It's very annoying.
My first Fatal Frame ❤️😱🥶 Thanx for the video 😮it gave me the ring vibe (Japanese one ;)
