In 1975, I got to go for a ride and photograph the hero '55 Chevy in Am. Graffitti. Back then, it had the hand painted (movie) yellow Calif. plates on it. The back seat had a snap on vinyl cover over it. Nasty car, radical cam!
Very cool. My dad raced throughout the midwest, and I still race over at Eddyville today. Ive asked Gerald Kramer, the current track owner, if he remembers the Camaro.
2 Lane is one of my favorite films, partly as a car guy and also just because if its world view...check out the Rob Zombie soundtrack to the 2 Lane video clip on YT. Everything I've read about the 2 Lane cars is that there were 3...2 454's and 1 L88. I think they used them all for American Graffiti...although the actual car upside down at the end of the movie was a 6 cyl hardtop (you can see the single exhaust), the few seconds before where its going off the road is the 3rd car that was wrecked as well...the stunt coordinator said that they had to force it to roll because it was so well built and stayed planted. explains why there are still 2 cars even tho one was rolled. Also, the 2 Lane movie is about Existentialism, so definitely was not 'about nothing'...2 hot rod nomads traveling and living in the moment and for experiences, with GTO living in a fantasy world for something that was never going to come, contrasting the 2 lives...very early 70's themes.
Marty here, I always heard the 3rd car was just for an unfilmed roll over scene in the film. That’s why in this walk around I only said there were 2. I very well could be incorrect in saying there are only 2 but I never considered the 3rd car an actual film used car. And yes, you’re correct about the film as well. It’s my favorite movie. However for the general audience it can be hard to watch since it is a very empty movie as far as plot and other ideas go. I enjoy it because it is a snapshot into an America that doesn’t really exist anymore. Thank you for the comment. I enjoyed reading it.
They actually built three of those Tulane blacktop cars. One was the driver car one was the racing car and the other one was the one that was the stunt car they could be crashed
6:14 gears is definitely a street racing gear. You might be able to start in 2nd gear and drive it like a three speed with a low hole 1st.. 😅.. that Camaro is bad azz!!
Officer Falfa, Bob Falfa. That's F-a-l-f-a...bet he won't be goin' around huntin' for Canary Yellow Dueces sittin' on a set of chromed reverse steelies with the perfect Hot Rodders Rake anytime soon.
I love the sound of them m21 and m22 Muncie Rock crusher transmissions play bring back so many memories I had so many of them in so many cars that was the only four-speed that I would put in my car because they were bulletproof
I'm old enough to remember the yenko Camaros the yenko Nova and all the other Yankees that he modified they had that distinctive White strip with his name across the back of it
The Best Part of Being Old .. At 16 My First was a 66 GTO ;..2nd was a 69 Z-28 for 1800.00 in 1979 .Then The 68 R/T 440 Charger for 650.00 in 1980 as a trade in for a Cordoba at Middleton Dodge in Pacifica CA ..Best Car Ever !! Bow Tie Slayer !! Yeah All You El Camino Real Cruzers !! Good Times !!
Add bring back memories my very first car I turn 16 in 1976 my very first car was a 66 GTO and it was loaded 389 three deuces four-speed horseback in them days our dog until it didn't run no more
Checking car with a Vega with a small block Chevy motor in it that I used to run 8 mi on back in the early 80s it would run 6 second flat which back in them days was pretty quick for a streetcar when you're driving it to and from the track and then I had a 70 Chevelle super sport I had three or four kutless Supremes I and to be honest with you the supremes were 0:56 the best cars I ever owned the 75 I had had swivel reclining bucket seats a sunroof it was the s***but of course back in the day I ended up blowing it up
What they did is smaller dealers who ordered 1 or 2 cars at a time, would be accumulated with other 9561 orders, and then when they had enough for running they would release. I found a 9561 Lemans blue black with U17 and rear antenna. So no spoilers... sold new at KING CHEVROLET in Cincinnati. They only sold one as far as known. It's Body number is close to the one above and was a 05D build. ordered early March. most cars were built within 4 weeks of ordering. Yenko is already sold, customer of mine who has 3 1969 Yenko Camaros and I discussed it Friday night and he started calling and tried to make an offer while the show was going on and it was already sold.
That double Copo, desert scene Camaro is one of the coolest timepieces I have ever seen. It has the same vibe as the orange1975 Holden HJ Sandman Panel Van from the first Mad Max movie with similar scenic paint on the side. That Camaro is a "here just take my money car" You can't put a price on something like that IMO
Yeah that car was a trip to see. I had the privilege to see it a few times in my life. I always went to the Street Machine Nationals in DuQuoin Illinois every year. I met him there and talked to him. He was a nice guy, I was just I think 15 when I first met him.
Love the Camaro content. Keep it coming Parker. Curious if you could expand on the trim tag sequence build numbers. Does anyone know what those build numbers are for the double COPOs on trim tags so you can determine around when some of these order builds for special, order cars went through. Looks like that VIN was built May June timeframe.
3 55s built for two lane , one car #2 was sold after production to a stunt coordinator for his son . The others 1&3 went on to American graffiti.# 3 the stunt car was destroyed at the end of American graffiti. Super cool they were able to find and restore #2 they actually found the original doors from the movie on a rusted out 55 race car in a storage lot. #1 was full built race car , #s2&3 not built to the same specifications . Although #2 was closer to #1s spec . than 3 the stunt car. The 55s are all actually copy of their builders daily driver 55 . He’s in the movie , he’s the gentleman that mentions the “famous panel truck” the shirt he wears in the film is actually his shop and the shop that built the film cars. I wonder where his car ended up? the prototype two lane /American graffiti 55 .
They production company didn’t want to use a 55 Chevrolet in two lane . Until a producer went for a ride in the”prototype “ 55 after the ride he understood the importance and green lot the production of the 3 movie cars
Actually, the #1 and #2 cars only differed in the engines. The frame, suspension, differential, axles, transmission, body panels, and interior were identical between the two.
Just found this out yesterday when I stumbled on this video. W-43 prototype. Thats a lot of engine. Too bad they wouldn’t green flag it. ruclips.net/video/5CyDt9HEIn0/видео.htmlsi=VkaydfVKADAmE5Mx
The truth of the 2lane cars are that there were 2 different cars in GRAFFITI AND 2 DIFFERENT CARS IN 2 LANE....ONE OF THEM WAS BOUGHT BY THE "DRIVER" after the movie two were total losses and 2 survived and that is one of the two the other is still in primer but in pieces...one piece front ,headers and all......and it will die with us 🤯Thank you Mr Taylor.
That’s not what Richard Ruth, the builder of all of the 55’s for both movies says. Also, James Taylor didn’t like hot rods and couldn’t even drive a 4 speed before being cast in the movie. Not saying it’s not true, just that’s not what anyone with any relation to the movie has ever said. James Taylor has a video with Jay Leno looking at one of the 55’s. Where he hasn’t seen it since the movie was shot. It’s cool that you claim to have it. Would love to see more about it.
Just to give her period correctness & be brought up to her cinematic picture perfect spec's, her rear slicks need to be larger just as they were when Sweet Baby James & Dennis Wilson went huntin' for action
Thanks for the info guys, but I believe there was a third Richard Ruth 55 in San Fernando valley that was white. My older brother owned it for a while in Vanuys in the early or mid seventies. It had the same tilt front end and 454. We used to hang out behind the B of A in Vanuys looking for races on Saturday evenings. A guy with an early 340 Duster challenged us to race stating it was a street car? Liar! When he showed up with the car on a trailer, Howard Lytle who owned the race car Indian Summer saw this go down and realized the guy had tricked us offered to synch and adjust the carbs. At that point we were in a panic and said sure, please do. He fiddled with the carbs for about 10 minutes after which he told us, OK, you're ready. We took Mr. Dusters money home that night. 😉 I don't know if Mr. Lytle is still around to verify, but this is him. ruclips.net/video/cFff4r9BC_4/видео.htmlsi=N3q5kFTE-sIvTnDl
It would be so cool for you to visit the Dynacorn clasic bodies who are replicating body shells, a shop tour would be so cool and you talking over the quality of these Chevelle, Camaro, body shells
So my friend just picked up a real 66 l79 Chevelle that unfortunately got in small accident in 72 and sat ever since but motor was pulled and there is no build sheet does have original posi and fuel line is correct for l79 car and factory cut out for 4spd my ? Is there any way to document the car with out original motor its a non ss car but obviously without documentation it affects price of car but was bought in a package deal with a 66 l79 ss that unfortunately doesn't have correct motor someone put a 69 lt1 motor in it to go racing but both cars had sat since 72 ss car was garaged and besides motor being changed it was painted black from its og blue green color but neither car has documented paperwork providing proof of them being l79 cars one picture of non ss car before being hit with 327 emblem on fender both cars along with a ton of parts were bought for 12,000 but obviously that price gos up considerably if there is away to prove l79 heritage but besides factory fuel lines and word of mouth and a few old pictures nothing to prove is there anyway to prove it

Dennis , not Brian. I love a lot of American classics, but whenever I see the Falfa '55 Chevy , I tend to think there's no more beautiful car.
Yes I misspoke Dennis Wilson’s name. Sorry about that. We were doing this off the cuff just walking around.
@LetsFNgo Dont be sorry . Brian's one of the coolest guys in the world too.🙂👍

Yes there were three
Great show! Great Video!💯
Look at those beautiful cars!🥰🥰
That last COPO has some history! Do you restore it factory or leave it alone?.. I think i would leave it.
I would leave that alone, its got mad max vibes and its just so cool. A Copo Camaro is cool but that Copo Camaro is unique
67' YENKO MY FAV CAR IN THE WORLD EVER!!!!! WHEN I HOT THE MEGA MILLIONS IMA BUY ME!!!!!

I believe it was the rear end whining not the 4 speed the old rears sound that way mostly not all .great video thanks
Nope! It was the M-22 Rockcrusher, no mistaking that sound. Makes me grin everytime I hear it.
Officer Falfa, Bob Falfa. That's F-a-l-f-a...bet he won't be goin' around huntin' for Canary Yellow Dueces sittin' on a set of chromed reverse steelies with the perfect Hot Rodders Rake anytime soon.
It's interesting that it appears to have Oldsmobile rockets in the paint scheme.
The Camaro I would love to have that baby.Definitely can be a diamond 💎 in the rough.
11:25 *Dennis Wilson. The other guy is musician James Taylor.
Yes I misspoke in that, I knew it, my mouth just didn’t say the right name lol.
@ I figured as much. The correction was more for the young folk. 😃
Nice!💯

Yes you’re right. I misspoke on both counts. Sorry about that.
I can not imagine letting a 69 Z- 28 sit in my yard and just rust away WTF....
Idiots more money than braincells

Per Richard Ruth, who built the cars. Car 1 had an L88 427 in it. Car 2 had a LS5 454
Everyone should subscribe to this extremely important RUclips channel.
Absolutely!💯
Of course Nickey and Yenko were copying Mr Norms Grand Spaulding Dodge which had been making super Mopars waybefore '67.
Did you ever hear about the cutlass W 41
Just found this out yesterday when I stumbled on this video. W-43 prototype. Thats a lot of engine. Too bad they wouldn’t green flag it.

That Camaro z28 was once owned by the legend JEFF HAGAMAN in his 20,s..there is a sweet old picture of it somewhere..
Blue Camaro with junk in the trunk!

350 olds is not a small block 455 is wider than the 350 are Virtually the same only the Deck height and 455 is wider is the difference
Tulane blacktop they made three cars two regular one was a stunt car
Yes but the stunt car never got used for the proposed roll over scene.
Ask Finnegan about a front end like Nickey. Not a good drag and drive setup.
I don't think most people are looking to go 160mph in a gasser. Certainly most can't afford it.
I'd clear coat that Camaro and enjoy the hell out of it
It would be so cool for you to visit the Dynacorn clasic bodies who are replicating body shells, a shop tour would be so cool and you talking over the quality of these Chevelle, Camaro, body shells
