Not that it needs my endorsement, but I got to play this one recently. Fantastic guitar - great tone, great feel. A man could live a happy life with just this one.
16:09 It sings right here.
Oh my dear ! That blend of warmth and balance is insane ! Congrats to your Shawn Brock Special model !
@@roberthasleder3660 you said it buddy, this thing is all anyone could ever want!
Congratulations, Shawn!
Your new signature D18 is nothing short of spectacular. 100% dialed in, Joshua's work is impressive.
I sure do appreciate it Paul! I am absolutely thrilled with this thing beyond words.
This guitar has a beautiful, sparkling sound in the highs. I think it'd pull off being a sublime modern fingerstyle instrument while of course being a D18 to the core. Maybe i havent heard enough D18s and some of them are similar in this regard? For me, Its jumped up there with 3-5 other (vintage inspired modern) builders as being the most beautiful and pure sounding guitars Ive heard. And this is deeper and earthier than any of the others. Such magic here..nice to hear whats possible.
Edit. Ive been comparing this video with other prewar D18 style guitars on this channel and it does seem to have a more sparkling high end. And now I just compared it to the new video of the holy grail 1937 D18 and these guitars sound very similar in the high end, very similar sounding overall, really.
@@lapocasini1246 man I was just going to say it’s amazing the similarities between this instrument which was made three months ago, and that 1937. we sat around comparing all of them yesterday pretty extensively, and while they weren’t the same, there were more similarities than differences. I feel like Joshua has a recipe and work ethic that will take him to places mini builders only dream of.
I am here to learn from you, dear Shawn. Thanks.
A beauty for sure! Josh has made another winner! A beautiful D-18.
Man it’s like the perfect combination of hard-core tradition, but jazzing it up a little bit. This guy is absolutely dangerous!
Sounds great!! How cool, everybody wants to build your signature guitar!
Man I don’t know about that lol. I sure do consider it an honor though to be involved with these guys; they are not just great builders, but great friends! I sure appreciate you Don.
That is gonna be something when it wake up!
Man almost hope it doesn’t wake up anymore, it’s already so loud that I have had to train myself to hold back a lot when playing with others. That’s an odd spot for a guitarist to be in lol.
Freaking Amazing sounding!!! Especially in new guitar.
Man you said it! I recorded the video on Monday, and it’s even more of a guitar than it was then. I have played many guitars from the old golden era that people have paid $150,000 and more for, that couldn’t come close to touching this thing on power.
Congrats buddy! Sounds like you have a winner in your hands. Happy for you brother!
Brother I sure appreciate it; if this one isn’t a winner, I sure don’t know what would be lol. It’s like a Powerball ticket with blue and white purfling 🙋♂️😂
Wow, Shawn, that is one powerful, clear, and sweet guitar! Josh has outdone himself on this one! Terrific! Enjoy it (as I do mine…)!
Man, there is nothing like these is their Chuck? You need a padauk though. I’m convinced if everyone Gave one of those a try, they would want one. I was talking with Josh earlier, and he said, I believe if I had 10 of those built and sent them out to perspective buyers, I wouldn’t get one back lol. I think that is a true statement, although I would say the same for the mahogany, Brazilian, Guatemalan, And so on… 😃
@@ShawnBrockMusic You are so right, Shawn! I have drooled over every one of your Josh Young demos (well, pretty much all your demos!) and I think it’s clear that Josh has got the Special Sauce, a Magic Touch, that comes through all of his creations. I recall being knocked out by your Padauk, too, and I may have to wait until I replenish my resources before i try one of those. Enjoy them!
Yup. That is an incredible D-18. Everything about it is special. Congratulations...
Thank you very much my friend. It’s always nice to have some little details out of the norm, that reflect your personality and things that are special to you. I feel like Joshua did a wonderful job capturing that for me. I knew it would be an Ace from the start.
Yeah man it sure is special to me. Having known this young man since before he started building, and watching him come along, having my favorite color incorporated, and old Bert on the peg head, that is special in itself, not to mention the incredible power, tone and playability of it. Definitely a guitar of the lifetime for me or anyone! 😄
You’ve got yourself a powerhouse in this one! Happy for you Shawn!
Lol thank you very much Mark! I am as proud of this thing as I would be if I built it lol! I’m very tickled with the variety of what I have, and if anyone was ever spoiled, I would be in that category. 😀
10K views in 23hrs .......You cannot fool the public! So, it is what it is!
I guess you are right, they are taking to this one like a duck to water lol. Makes me very proud!
The SB SPECIAL IS A GREAT SOUNDING GUITAR PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN QUALITY. JOSHUA YOUNG DID A GREAT JOB BUILDING THAT ONE AMONG OTHERS OF GREAT GUITARS.
Brother Mike, this young man is going places old geezers like us never dreamed of lol. 🥹 i’m sure very proud of him, and he has done an excellent job on all of these in my opinion. God bless you my friend!
@ShawnBrockMusic Jesus bless you Brother.
That's a killer guitar brother!
I sure appreciate it old buddy!
I love your darn demo’s. Keep up the great work Shawn.
Man I sure appreciate you always taking time to give these things a listen. I reckon I will keep it up as long as I can lol.
Awesome guitar ! Great sound !😅
@@lonniehudson7101 thank you very much! Man you should hear it now! It is purely psychedelic lol. Thing sounds like a Harley Davidson coming through.
Very great sounding 18 !! Congrats Shawn !!
I sure do appreciate it Mike! This thing grows so much each day, I kept thinking that I should have waited to record the video lol. It’s unbelievable what this thing was right off of the bench, which doesn’t come close to comparing to what it is now. Josh is a very talented and hard-working young man!
You are a beautiful person...and the guitar hides if you really are a bit over weight.
I don't see too well, but your joy is infectious!
John, brother I sure do appreciate that man more than you ever know. Us fellows who can’t see good have to stick together don’t we. Four good ears tops a set of eyes any day. God bless you my friend!
Definitely a sweet sounding guitar!
I appreciate you watching sir! I’m going to bring it over and let you play it.
Yes Sir!!!! Nice Shawn. 😁😁 EE
Congratulations on your new guitar. I'm amazed at how loud it can be, really clear, balanced, and a little touch of reverb when you hit it harder. I think that's because of the sustain, which is crazy. It's all about the woods, and there is definitely some great wood in that guitar. Great demo
Joe, you are correct, it does have a touch of reverb when slapped hard. It’s one amazing instrument for sure, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. as good as it was when I got it, I never imagined it could grow exponentially.
Shawn, if you could only choose one of these guitars would it be this one, Thames, or the Edmonds?
What is the price point of this guitar?
Thank you for all you do for our community!!
Man I never put builders in a competition. All three of these guys, Young, Thames and Edmonds, our friends of mine, who do excellent work. That’s always enough for me. It’s like John Arnold said the other day, “ you could put two builders in the same shop, give them the same materials cut from the same trees, the same glue and tools, and have them build an instrument to the exact same specs, and somehow in the end the instruments would still sound different. Somehow the personality of the builder gets incorporated into the sound no matter what.” That’s as true of a statement as I have ever heard anyone speak; so the trick is finding the instrument that jives with your personality. It’s almost like getting married in a way. oh wait, I might have just diagnosed myself with multiple personality disorder. 😂
😂 Thx Shawn
@@ShawnBrockMusic Will Kimble says the same thing about mandolins. He changed up his builds after he got to spend some detail oriented time with a Loar. He told me that made a big change for the better in his mandolin sound, "...but they still sound like me."
Good lort!....That's a howitzer.
🤣 might be the best description I have heard all week lol!
You sure picked a great guitar Shawn. Well worth the wait. That Mahogany gives it a very soft but clearer notes than a Rosewood would have. Rosewood sounds great but this guitar sounds amazing.
Man I sure do appreciate it! His instruments are so good, it is impossible for me to pick one over another. Although, I am a little partial to having Bert on the headstock lol.
@@ShawnBrockMusic Yes he sure is a awesome builder. Haha I prefer having a planet on the head stock or something but to each their own. Both are out in space lol Hey would you have a listen to a guitar I built? I'm not a pro Luthier but trying to learn how. It's a Maple back and sides with a Baked Sitka top. Cheers! ruclips.net/video/xt79X3h6vwo/видео.html
Now, if I could just buy some of your flatpicking talent...
Man you would sure want to return it if you did lol 🤠
When a guy is young, he learns by his mistakes. He’s GOT to make some improvements at some point - wait. Hold on. That was that other guy. No THIS one here; it’s a keeper. No doubt. No doubt in my mind. Oh, yeah.
If I could do what he does, I don’t know if I would ever sleep lol.
Volume . OK. That's obviously a pretty complex one. Like horsepower versus driveability , Or rideability. Cruise, versus race? Then (for the mix heads!) there's the physics of rooms , crowd noise, microphone placement. FEEDBACK????!!! ut-oh. Serious learning curve. Onboard pickups versus those sedentary Sennheisers (or whatever you said they are lol) And let's not forget attitude of the player. Bluegrass guys know how to walk in gently, respectfully. Because Praise Jesus.
7 grand is a bit
It sure is I reckon. After all though, the top, back and sides could be retailed for over $1000 easily by many suppliers and builders. Plus, it’s a handmade instrument, still for far less than Martin wants for a factory made authentic.
@@ShawnBrockMusicright on. I play a hand built 000 that’s around $6,000. The money isn’t what it used to be. Thank you for your time and playing!
in 3 days! I thought it was this morning
No chief, it will be Saturday morning man. Have to put out that USA Luthier video for tonight, and I was trying to keep them from competing against each other.
@@ShawnBrockMusic good thinking... loving the Appalachian luthier collection! You got them all ringing like a clean bell... thanks for the awesomely great content!
