In this configuration the mini play is acting as a controller. The sound will be coming from the MPC BEATS SOFTWARE. You must select a sound program (Drum Kit, Keygroup, or VST Instrument) first.

Thank you for the answer and showing the movie. Well, I have to admit that I'm not so familiar with the settings. Yes, some pads give sounds by clicking the mouse, but I can't act with the MIDI controller Akai Mini Play. For now, I'm using the second MIDI controller Arturia Mini Lab and alternating with three versions of Analog Lab: Analog Lab older version, Analog Lab4 and Analog Lab V. I once did a test that went well. Well, I connected Arturia with Analog Lab 4, while Akai combined with Analog Lab (the older version) On the one hand I gave my music and in Akai some effect and it worked. Both connections with Analog Lab were through the "Device" settings. I guess I'll have to find someone in my city to help me. My greetings Yo ! :)

Hey man, it’s still not letting letting me learn the pads? I have new midi map set but when I try to change the pad mapping it’s just showing up what it used to be
If you are using the updated version of MPC BEATS 2.10 there is now a default AKAI preset for the MPK MINI PLAY. Alternatively if you still need or want to program it yourself you must now also go into PREFERENCES/MIDI LEARN and make sure the MPK is set to CONTROL, TRACK, and MASTER. This video was made using the 2.8 version not the new 2.10.
Hey, akai released a midi map for the play now :) i dont know if you have to download a kind a extra thing on the product page to get it to work, but there is a mpk mini play map now. I did map my mpk mini play before that according to your explanation before, tho. I like that there is just that information in this video, 5 min is a good lengh. I found many videos talking 5 minutes about other things and then it didnt even solved my problem i was having, so you did a good job of shaping your video, thanks :)
Thanks for the comment. And yes they did add a new MIDI map for the 2.10 update. I covered it in one of my 2.10 videos. As of now this will only relate to people who have not updated to 2.10 or later.
Make sure it is connected properly. When you hit the keys you should see a green light flashing at the top of the screen showing MIDI input. If you are getting input make sure your device is enabled in the MIDI Learn tab. Then go to preferences and make sure it is set to GLOBAL, TRACK, and CONTROL. You might also want to select SYNC.
I’m not looking at it at the moment but I believe the MPD226 has a built in preset. All you should have to do is select that and go into settings - MIDI/SYNC and make sure it is set to CONTROL and TRACK.

I ran into an issue. I have the MPKmini w/ 8 knobs. I tried the Bank A/B thing while mapping, but after trying it, for example Knob 1, adjusted the first in the bank A and the B at the same time. Any solutions to that?
I can confirm this is happening. Possible due to the new update. I just tested it myself with the MPK Mini 3. I will let you know if I find a fix for this.
@@AnubisProd I don't know why they don't have all of their devices premapped. You really should only have to do that with third party equipment. EVERYTHING from Akai should have a default preset.
Thanks for this. I've been looking everywhere for a tutorial for the Mini Play. One problem though. When I try to map out the buttons when I select learn, it doesn't detect it. And, when I press the buttons, they register to the wrong things entirely, like I press pad 1 it goes to 2, and pad 2 goes to 6. Really confusing stuff.
You might have missed setting it to CONTROL and TRACK in the PREFERENCES menu under MIDI/SYNC.. If it is your only keyboard you can also set it to MASTER.
I'm in the market for a digital keyboard (with onboard sounds--not a MIDI controller) with drum pads like the MPK Mini Play. I primarily play guitar with a looper pedal, and I want to be able to loop piano/synth and percussion into the pedal to expand the versatility of my rig, but I really want to avoid adding both a keyboard AND a computer to my live rig (which, again, is why I'm looking for a stand-alone device with onboard sounds rather than a MIDI controller). Any recommendations besides the MPK Mini Play? Something with more than 25 keys would also be nice but not necessary.
I think there are better options than the Mini Play and I would recommend the MPK Mini 3 above the play if you are in the market for just a controller even though the Play has built in sounds. For a great option with sounds built in I would probably recommend the MicroFreak from Arturia/Korg. It has built in sounds and is also a synthesizer.
You have to use the Akai MPK Software Manager that came with the MPK on your computer. One opened click the options/preferences cog ⚙️ and select advanced options. From there download/install the MPK Mini Editor for your controller and open it. Select File/Send to Hardware/Program 1 which should be your default settings.
I couldn't map yet, I clicked PAD 1, then I pressed PAD 1 on mini play. But NOT appear any assign. Any solution so far please ? Is there any i/o setting missing ? Thank you

@@lauriemusic8216 oh ok. I understand. Well when you are looking at the MIDI Learn menu on the right side of the page there is a drop down menu to select different parameters. You can chose from pads to q-links and much more if you want but the only ones of some importance is mostly pads and q-links.
Is there anyway you how to get the mpc one on controller mode? I’ve been trying to do this for almost a year. I’m stuck on that red screen saying looking for computer 😶🤯🤯🤯
That was supposed to be fixed with the 2.10 update. I just checked my MPC One and its definitely still a problem although I usually keep my MPC One in standalone.
G.S. question on mapping a sustain pedal and I am not able to map the knobs to the qlinks, the pads were successful thought any advice? This is for the MPK Mini Play
I have a sustain pedal but it is not traditionally routed right now. I will look into it and see if I can help you out. The MPK Mini Play does have a sustain pedal input on the back of it.
@@chmorgan7798 I have been playing around with the sustain pedal to see if I could map it to a Q-Link and have been unsuccessful so far but it seems to automatically map to the SUSTAIN automation lane if it is connected and it does work.
@@GhettoStyles that sounds good, I can see the pedal functioning on the mini play also on a keyboard just not in the software, the qlinks still seem like they are not able to be mapped it is just dark grey and non selected, I see in the preferences also where there is a pedal and it is also non selectable
@@chmorgan7798 You can map the Q-Links but they are not the same as a regular MPK Mini though. I think they could have implemented that better but as far as software connectability the MPK Mini 2 and 3 work much better. I just wanted to help because I saw a lot of people frustrated with the MIni Play understandably. The Play has built in sounds but I would personally rather sacrifice that for functionality. Hopefully I did help you get closer to your end goal with this video though.
Hi! The procedure for the pads worked and now they are mapped, but not for the knobs. I click on one in the software when it is yellow, then I turned the one I want on my controller, and nothing happens. The Q-links column remains empty. Any idea?

@@danielmesat4559 when you turn the knobs do you see the MIDI light blinking? If it is blinking it is getting an incoming signal from the controller. If not it could be an issue with the MPK. This light will be in the top right the screen labeled IN
When i first use MPC beats - i push in Preferences midi/Sync - "Reset" knob. And forgot about it. In midi/sync my Akai MPK - is gone . All solutions in comments - doesent work for me. After reinstall MPC - i found my Akai MPK mini - and "Control", "Track" buttons (not active) in Preferences - Midi/Sync . I activate this buttons - and it's start working! Thanks!

Go into the Preferences menu. Then MIDI/SYNC and make sure the MPK Mini Play is set to CONTROL and TRACK and you can set it to MASTER if it is your only keyboard.
That is how it is designed. The first 16 notes of the Key bed in the default octave are the same as the pads. You can play instruments using the keys 🎹 or pads depending on what mode you are in and the type of instrument.

Thanks for asking. Start with Bank A on the MPK Mini Play and start with PAD 1 which is the pad in the bottom left corner and go in order from there up to PAD 8. Then switch to Bank B and do the same thing. The process is the same for the Q-Link knobs except the Mini Play does not have 8 knobs so assign them as you see fit.
Hey Im having trouble with my MPK mini play. I already have it set up and working with VIP software but i cant record anything on that software. So I came to the MPC Beats software also provided (for some reason) and now I can't get the sound from my physical keyboard to record or play through the computer. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
The VIP software does not record. It controls all of your VSTs in a centralized location allowing you use them through a single interface and combine multiple VSTs together. The MPK Mini Play will not play sounds from the device itself when connected to MPC Beats. It will act as a controller. You will have to select the sounds available to use from the MPC Beats library. The vip software has no recording capabilities but you can open the vip software INSIDE MPC Beats and use MPC Beats to record the sounds you make with the vip software. The point of having the vip software is it allows you access to all of your vsts from one place and also allows you to combine up to 8 vsts to create one unique sound for use. It has many other features but those are the main two for me.
@@ianman420 it does work with MPC beats. Update your MPC beats software to the latest version and it has a built in preset. Otherwise it is because you are most definitely missing one of the steps somewhere along the line. I have helped hundreds of people with this issue.
@@DavePuryear I do still have a rarely used windows PC. I will try to test it to see if I can help but if the computer recognizes it then the software should also. I would try unplugging the USB and possibly restarting the computer but I will also try to look and see if I can help more.

If it is still not working after following everything in this video the number one problem is in the preferences. Open the preferences menu and go to the MIDI/SYNC tab. You will see the MPK MINI PLAY listed. Make sure you select CONTROL and TRACK... and if it is you ONLY keyboard select MASTER.

Are you using the MPK Mini Play version 1 or version 2? Also the software has now been updated to include a default preset for the MPK MINI Play version 1. Lastly you MUST MAKE SURE the MPK Mini Play is both ENABLED and one the PREFERENCES menu inside the MIDI/SYNC tab set to CONTROL and TRACK.

@@bevelynwright1826 ok. Let’s start over. I will get you together. Which MPK mini do you have? 1, 2, 3, or mini play? The original MPK Mini 1 will work but it has to be programmed. If you have updated to the latest version of MPC Beats version 2.10.0 you will find that they have added a default presets for the MPK mini 2, 3, and the Mini Play. (Which was not there at the time of making this video.) Also due to an update that came after the making of this video not only do you have to ENABLE your MPK Mini, YOU ALSO HAVE TO GO INTO PREFERENCES and then to the MIDI/SYNC tab and select your MPK device for CONTROL, TRACK, and MASTER. Now if you only have samples on two pads those samples will ONLY play when you hit those corresponding pads or the matching two keys on the keyboard. The rest WILL NOT DO ANYTHING as they are left blank. If you want to play keys or sounds in a chromatic scale across the keyboard you can either select the sample pad you want to do this with and hit the 16 LEVELS button, or you cal load a KEYGROUP PROGRAM, a VST INSTRUMENT, or a MIDI Instrument. That’s just the way the pads are set up so they can be played chromatically. As long as it’s set up in the correct order it will work fine. Don’t worry about the numbers.
Most of the time people say it isn't working it is a minor step being missed. Make sure you have it ENABLED and also in PREFERENCES - MIDI/SYNC make sure it is set to CONTROL and TRACK

That is exactly what this video is for. The MPK Mini Play does not register to the software so you have to program it manually.
what if the numbers are not popping up to say it registered that input? having trouble with setting mine up currently

It doesn't. You have to actually push the OCT+ or OCT- buttons on the MPK to change the octave of the keys.

@@fever9823 Nope. The octave on the MPK work seperately. You can be -3 on the MPK and +2 on the MPC at the same time.

In the newer versions of the software you have to go to preferences then MIDI/SYNC and set your device to CONTROL, TRACK, and GLOBAL

I'm in the market for a digital keyboard (with onboard sounds--not a MIDI controller) with drum pads like the MPK Mini Play. I primarily play guitar with a looper pedal, and I want to be able to loop piano/synth and percussion into the pedal to expand the versatility of my rig, but I really want to avoid adding both a keyboard AND a computer to my live rig (which, again, is why I'm looking for a stand-alone device with onboard sounds rather than a MIDI controller). Any recommendations besides the MPK Mini Play? Something with more than 25 keys would also be nice but not necessary.
I think there are better options than the Mini Play and I would recommend the MPK Mini 3 above the play if you are in the market for just a controller even though the Play has built in sounds. For a great option with sounds built in I would probably recommend the MicroFreak from Arturia/Korg. It has built in sounds and is also a synthesizer.

How do you factory reset the mpk mini play ?
You have to use the Akai MPK Software Manager that came with the MPK on your computer.
One opened click the options/preferences cog ⚙️ and select advanced options.
From there download/install the MPK Mini Editor for your controller and open it.
Select File/Send to Hardware/Program 1 which should be your default settings.

I’m not sure what version of MPC Beats you are using but if you update to the latest version there is now a default template for the MPK Mini Play.

@@lauriemusic8216 oh ok. I understand. Well when you are looking at the MIDI Learn menu on the right side of the page there is a drop down menu to select different parameters. You can chose from pads to q-links and much more if you want but the only ones of some importance is mostly pads and q-links.

Is there anyway you how to get the mpc one on controller mode? I’ve been trying to do this for almost a year. I’m stuck on that red screen saying looking for computer 😶🤯🤯🤯
That was supposed to be fixed with the 2.10 update. I just checked my MPC One and its definitely still a problem although I usually keep my MPC One in standalone.
G.S. question on mapping a sustain pedal and I am not able to map the knobs to the qlinks, the pads were successful thought any advice? This is for the MPK Mini Play
I have a sustain pedal but it is not traditionally routed right now. I will look into it and see if I can help you out. The MPK Mini Play does have a sustain pedal input on the back of it.

@@chmorgan7798 I have been playing around with the sustain pedal to see if I could map it to a Q-Link and have been unsuccessful so far but it seems to automatically map to the SUSTAIN automation lane if it is connected and it does work.
@@GhettoStyles that sounds good, I can see the pedal functioning on the mini play also on a keyboard just not in the software, the qlinks still seem like they are not able to be mapped it is just dark grey and non selected, I see in the preferences also where there is a pedal and it is also non selectable
@@chmorgan7798 You can map the Q-Links but they are not the same as a regular MPK Mini though. I think they could have implemented that better but as far as software connectability the MPK Mini 2 and 3 work much better. I just wanted to help because I saw a lot of people frustrated with the MIni Play understandably. The Play has built in sounds but I would personally rather sacrifice that for functionality. Hopefully I did help you get closer to your end goal with this video though.
Hi! The procedure for the pads worked and now they are mapped, but not for the knobs. I click on one in the software when it is yellow, then I turned the one I want on my controller, and nothing happens. The Q-links column remains empty. Any idea?
Go to the preferences menu and the Midi/Sync tab and make sure the MPK is set to TRACK and CONTROL. That usually fixes the issues.

@@danielmesat4559 when you turn the knobs do you see the MIDI light blinking? If it is blinking it is getting an incoming signal from the controller. If not it could be an issue with the MPK.
This light will be in the top right the screen labeled IN
When i first use MPC beats - i push in Preferences midi/Sync - "Reset" knob. And forgot about it. In midi/sync my Akai MPK - is gone . All solutions in comments - doesent work for me. After reinstall MPC - i found my Akai MPK mini - and "Control", "Track" buttons (not active) in Preferences - Midi/Sync . I activate this buttons - and it's start working! Thanks!

@@dubjay1981 the MPK MINI MK3 is definitely a better choice. You still get the same sounds and more . You just can’t play them as a stand-alone unit.

Go into the Preferences menu. Then MIDI/SYNC and make sure the MPK Mini Play is set to CONTROL and TRACK and you can set it to MASTER if it is your only keyboard.

That is how it is designed. The first 16 notes of the Key bed in the default octave are the same as the pads. You can play instruments using the keys 🎹 or pads depending on what mode you are in and the type of instrument.

Thanks for asking. Start with Bank A on the MPK Mini Play and start with PAD 1 which is the pad in the bottom left corner and go in order from there up to PAD 8. Then switch to Bank B and do the same thing. The process is the same for the Q-Link knobs except the Mini Play does not have 8 knobs so assign them as you see fit.

Its not letting me assign the pads to the program I did the preferences step but mine says sync and track not control.
You are looking at the OUTPUT PORTS. You need to select CONTROL and TRACK on the INPUT PORTS.

Hey Im having trouble with my MPK mini play. I already have it set up and working with VIP software but i cant record anything on that software. So I came to the MPC Beats software also provided (for some reason) and now I can't get the sound from my physical keyboard to record or play through the computer. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
The VIP software does not record. It controls all of your VSTs in a centralized location allowing you use them through a single interface and combine multiple VSTs together.
The MPK Mini Play will not play sounds from the device itself when connected to MPC Beats. It will act as a controller. You will have to select the sounds available to use from the MPC Beats library.

The vip software has no recording capabilities but you can open the vip software INSIDE MPC Beats and use MPC Beats to record the sounds you make with the vip software. The point of having the vip software is it allows you access to all of your vsts from one place and also allows you to combine up to 8 vsts to create one unique sound for use. It has many other features but those are the main two for me.
Any help here, followed the steps but cant seem to get it to sync. its connected but it dont seem to sync when i hit the pads.
GO TO PREFERENCES and click the MIDI/SYNC TAB. Make sure your device is set to CONTROL and TRACK. If it is your main keyboard 🎹 select MASTER also

@@ianman420 Don't worry about the numbers it places on the pads as long as it is the right pad you will be fine.
Okay thank you. Still haven't got it working right though. Pretty choked that I was sold this unit under the belief it worked with mpc beats.
@@ianman420 it does work with MPC beats. Update your MPC beats software to the latest version and it has a built in preset.
Otherwise it is because you are most definitely missing one of the steps somewhere along the line. I have helped hundreds of people with this issue.

@@DavePuryear I do still have a rarely used windows PC. I will try to test it to see if I can help but if the computer recognizes it then the software should also. I would try unplugging the USB and possibly restarting the computer but I will also try to look and see if I can help more.

The app isn't mapping the pads. I have already done preferences->input->MPK Mini Play to Control and track, but it still doesn't work.
I had it set to MIDI keys, instead of pad keys. That was the problem.

If it is still not working after following everything in this video the number one problem is in the preferences. Open the preferences menu and go to the MIDI/SYNC tab. You will see the MPK MINI PLAY listed. Make sure you select CONTROL and TRACK... and if it is you ONLY keyboard select MASTER.

The original MPK Mini 1 will work but it has to be programmed.
If you have updated to the latest version of MPC Beats version 2.10.0 you will find that they have added a default presets for the MPK mini 2, 3, and the Mini Play. (Which was not there at the time of making this video.)
Also due to an update that came after the making of this video not only do you have to ENABLE your MPK Mini, YOU ALSO HAVE TO GO INTO PREFERENCES and then to the MIDI/SYNC tab and select your MPK device for CONTROL, TRACK, and MASTER.
Now if you only have samples on two pads those samples will ONLY play when you hit those corresponding pads or the matching two keys on the keyboard. The rest WILL NOT DO ANYTHING as they are left blank.
If you want to play keys or sounds in a chromatic scale across the keyboard you can either select the sample pad you want to do this with and hit the 16 LEVELS button, or you cal load a KEYGROUP PROGRAM, a VST INSTRUMENT, or a MIDI Instrument. This was for the older version of MPC Beats. If you have the 2.10 version of MPC Beats there is now a usable preset in the Default Akai location....
why are my numbers not in order it goes from 32- 39 than goes from 16-23
That’s just the way the pads are set up so they can be played chromatically. As long as it’s set up in the correct order it will work fine. Don’t worry about the numbers.
