This was really cool to see, a Father on Fathers day with one of his great grandchildren! Interesting to hear his take on the evolution of the MPC. Maybe Akai did listen to people like EA Ski and others who have criticized the sonic quality of the newer machines and they may be looking to get back there. Another Roger Linn/Akai team up would be pretty dope!
sir as a fan of these music since '78. No one was complaining about the sonic quality of MPC’s. The ONLY one complaining was EA-SKI. Zaytoven wasn’t complaining. He’s been using the Ren since 12 and onto the live II,Keys etc. Drumma Boy isn’t complaining about the sonic character. Jermaine Dupri isn’t complaining about the sonic character of the live or X. Metro Boomin isn’t complaining about the sonics. Conductor Williams isn’t sitting at his home studio complaining. Bolo isn’t complaining about the X ,Live or Keys. The drankkang from youtube isn’t complaining about the X. Price Dinero who used the Ren,the X, keys and Live II isn’t complaining about the sonics as well as countless others. All of the previous mentioned are users of the old and current MPC and have had chart toping records or success in THIS era. Let’s stop the nonsense. These newer mpc’s are THE best machines for hardware workflow, drum programming and sampling. What they were able to do in 2012 with the Ren was groundbreaking in itself. What they were able to do in 2017 and beyond with the X etc for CURRENT production and workflow is next level. Where can they possibly go next. It was great to hear Linns opinion on the current state of the MPC’s. As his name was brought up in drama from someone elses opinion regarding the sonics by EA SKI. Who has used the machine consistently since the X (2017) and Live II (2020) but waited until the SE (2024) dropped to go on a rant about the sonics. Linns video wasn’t needed, but again appreciated. As most users and enthusiasts already knew what his opinion was going to be,because it’s THE same machine minus his name and a few hardware bells and whistles.
Rodger Linn is such a humble guy, He made that Iconic design and still to this day the modern MPCs follow his device plan and lay out. Good to hear Akai is showing some respect to Rodger however this could be partly due to time and how long its been, there is probably a legal element.
@@GhettoStyles Well like I said in My video about Akai MPC Key37, there parts and technology come from InMusic stock parts, and while there modern devices are good, it is old technology.

I have many mpc's and have used all of them at one time or another. None of them make drums sound and feel like the mpc3000 it's just some kind of voodoo magic.
I heard about folks complaining that MPC X Retro ed had worse audio outs compared to the prior model, and I've also heard folks refuting that as well. Never used one myself, so I really don't know. I do remind the complainers that all of the MPC standalones can use a usb audio interface or mixer with no issues. Now, as for an Akai device with some new Linn tech? I could see a Force 2 with his keyboard built in; give Ableton's Push 3 a run for it's money.
I have both the MPC X and the Retro XSE which is in my latest videos. I don't notice a difference in the sound output. What is notice is the XSE is definitely faster and can run more plugins at once.
I think your Input, tutorials, Demo's are so Dope! I think the latest MPC's, X/ SE , live are the best. I have a 4000/5000 which I just purchased. IMOP the newer MPC"S blows them away. So I am selling both to a good friend. I also have a Roland MV8000, and my God, it is So Dope also. I HOPE Akai do better with Roger L, in the future. I not sure what he would bring or add to the MPC's. I WILL BE waiting and watching.❤
The New Akai Force may incorporate the Linnstrument for the Pad layout. I can see this happening, as it appears that Roger Linn and Akai may be hooking up again 💪
Linnstrument meets MPC w some Deluge goodness would be cool along w some Force features from the modulation department. One can dream! This video warmed my heart. That foul play on the IP vs Roger Linn was a painful scratch. ❤
I wish he made this video 2 years ago, before the clowns, trolls and snake oil salesmen made the online MPC community intolerable. I thought of making a video reaction, but then I remembered I don’t care any more 😅 Great to hear your perspective though bro 🫡
I can't say I have an opinion on wether the old MPC's sound better than the new ones, but I think a lot of audio professionals out of Roger Linn's generation have a different set of preferences compared to younger musicians and audio professionals. Back in the day, they had lo-fi and strived to create higher fidelity, a clearer sound. They put enormous amounts of time and effort into achieving this, an that will form their ear to listen for specific things. Younger listeners are less impressed with super clear hi-fi, and many prefer a bit of grit and texture to the sound instead. In other words, at a certain point in audio refinement, "good" becomes subjective.

I think his disagreement was with Numark who bought Akai. But now Numark has been bought by inMusic. I don't know, but I guess that means different managements. Normally those Ceo's don't stay for more then a few years before they go somewhere else.
It appears Roger Linn is not being truthful in saying that he had a falling out with the original Akai company. According to his earlier video, he had a falling out with the American Akai company. It does appear that some reconciliation took place in order for him to bury the hatchet with Jack O'Donnell. ruclips.net/video/jdMRxUC77RQ/видео.html
I know about that but I think it is a little bit of both. The previous Akai business folded and the chair holder James Ting went to prison for fraud in 2005 for stealing $800 million from the company and tampered documents which was the same year Jack O'Donnell acquired the rights to it. The last MPC he was involved with was the MPC 3000 which was released in 1994. All of the fraud happened between 1994-2004.
Yeah, there are some reports out there that lay the stopping of payments at the feet of James Ting. We probably won't have true clarity as to what went on.
