If you want to make it better, get TuneECU and get rid of all the restrictions they put in there. Sport mode is the full power mode, but it doesn't deliver full power. It's not as restrictive as Rain mode, but it still doesn't deliver full power. It's very muted in the mid range, and at 100% throttle, it never delivers more than 91% power. And at 6000rpm it drops down into the 83% range, strangling it up top. You can get rid of all that in about 15 minutes with an Android phone, a bluetooth adapter and the TuneECU app. It has nothing to do with the fuel or ignition tables, it's all in those ride by wire tables. That's why the Thruxton makes more power than the Speed Twin, because it's not as restricted. The motors are identical, the fuel and ignition tables are identical, the only difference is the extra restrictions in the throttle tables on the Speed Twin. It's the same with the Street Triple R and RS. They are the same motor, same tune. But the R is heavily held back up top, so that they can charge more money for the RS that isn't restricted. TuneECU gets rid of that and can make your 2020 R model, have the same output as the RS.
I love my Speed Twin, it's first ever Triumph and I went with it because I can't get comfortable on a Thruxton. So I get all the fun power of the Thruxton but with the comfort I want when riding. It does have some problems but nothing I can't fix later myself IE the rear and front suspension need to be upgraded, but it's not a deal breaker for me. It's just an all around fun bike and the best one I've owned so far.
The real secret is that it sells for $5k less than the Thruxton because the shocks don't say "Ohlins" on them. There's big money to be made selling bikes to those who know nothing about riding besides what they think are good spec sheet details. I have a 2016 Thruxton I bought new for ~$11k. It has a FAR better paint job than the new stuff and has been fantastic over the last 49k miles. I added handlebars to it, too ;) They are great road bikes.
I'll be picking one up in a couple of months. Thanks for the review, but my heart was in my mouth a few times during your lane-splitting maneuvers in traffic. Must be a different motorist culture in SA than here in Australia.
What it is is another dream work of art class and quality.i remember the orriginal speed twins thunderbids tiger100s bonnies.we used to chop them and have such fun in the 70s. Im so glad and proud triumph bsa enfield norton are all back .british bikes oodle class i love em .
I have had no choice but to subscribe to this channel. I was blown away listening to the bike and the presenter! Just perfect. More and more content please
It's been years since I road a bike but I can't shake this one. I've convinced myself to save for the next few months/year and find a nice 2019/20 model.
Matt’s dad here. Just got a 955i Daytona. Like the looks, the acceleration and the broad power curve. Used to ride a Norton but the company is a zombie now.
Looking at the radiator, while it's a very good fit and design, I think it needs a cover to protect it, I would think it's very vulnerable to damage from stones, which of course that useless front mudguard won't stop.
I thought the same thing, which is why I bought one for my 2022 Speed Twin. I bought an EvoTech Performance one for about $90, and it is super easy to install and was a decent price too. Well worth it in my opinion.
Great video and review these bikes are great to ride the torque and sound are addictive just love riding mine ive just traded my 19 in for a 24 in navy blue il make it my own now 👍🇬🇧
That is a nice bike. I would buy one but triumph makes the scrambler 1200XC, and it’s gorgeous, fast, handles like a sport bike, gorgeous, has a beautiful TFT display with all the tech you ever want and need, gorgeous, fully adjustable suspension with 200mm of travel front and rear, oh and it’s gorgeous. No plastic parts that cover the polished components, and its comfort level is the same as the speed twin, the seating position is up right. Plus it’s gorgeous. If I was to do it again I’d seriously consider the speed twin only because of the high swung exhaust, because the speed twin looks almost as good. Both are awesome bikes, but the looks of the Scrambler win me over, and you get all the other benefits. Please allow me to make a comment about how you guys ride in the UK…..it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up how all of you squeeze between cars, in the town, as well as in the freeway. You’re raised the danger level ten fold because anyone can decide to change lanes or turn at any second. I just advise to not do that and enjoy the ride. Then give it the beans when you can. It might be my age but I just enjoy being on a bike. Ride safe, ride forever. Cheers !
I own a 2020 Speed Twin 1200cc and two 2012's; Bonneville SE and Thruxton. The '12s have one less gear, weigh a few pounds more (ST 470/SE 475/Thruxton 495 pounds), they have 2/3 of the horsepower at 67 and 68; the 1200 has far better brakes and an extra gear but it is a bucking bronco even with the "Ducati spacers" in the throttle it is snatchy like a 2-stroke below legal speed limits. It is for sale.
Rumor has it that the 900cc version is actually better. NOTHING replaces the delicious sound of those 1200s, but- lighter weight, a re-tuned 900cc motor, and possibly under $10 grand. I need to keep the weight down to manage around my dirt/stone driveway!!!
How would you rate it as a second bike? I'm riding a Trident for now, but it's a bit lightweight so on the highway it's not very fun to ride. How's the wind on the speed twin?
I personally love this bike. It is like a sleeper, looks like a Bonneville but goes like a rocket ship and handles like a dream. No wind protection so same as trident.
2021 Speed Twin owner. I feel so connected to my bike. A perfect blend of aesthetics and performance.

One of their best selling bikes.

I just bought a 2023 and it's everything you described. I love my new bike. Its perfect for the southern California roads 👌
I have them too love it , my 3rd Triumph alongside Thruxton R and RS

Wasn’t ‘16 the last year they were made in UK (England/Europe?)
before they shipped manufacturing it Thiland ?

Same here
Excellent review.

I agree with. Its a great all rounder and a ton of fun to ride. Had mine since 2020 but thinking to trade in on a 2023 speed twin.

DUDE 😮💨
I have a 2020 Speed Twin and love it!
Really enjoyed this video, you have given us a real feel for the bike and the riding experience, marvellous thank you.
Thank you so much 🙏
Just got my 2022 same colors. I love it.
Awesome, congratulations 🥳 and many happy and safe miles
I already wanted one.
Your video is excellent. I can’t wait
Thank you 🙏
Beautiful bike. I thought to change my rebel 500 2022 for the speed twin 900 but the seat position of the rebel for me is the best.
This motor though is soooo much fun 🤩. Go for a test ride
Looking at the radiator, while it's a very good fit and design, I think it needs a cover to protect it, I would think it's very vulnerable to damage from stones, which of course that useless front mudguard won't stop.
The radiator covers used to come as standard. I’m shocked they’ve done something so stupid.
I thought the same thing, which is why I bought one for my 2022 Speed Twin. I bought an EvoTech Performance one for about $90, and it is super easy to install and was a decent price too. Well worth it in my opinion.
I added an extension to the front mudguard which also stop mud messing up the radiator
Not as much as you'd think.Ive 112,000km. on mine, no worries
@@asacarrick1440 same here, I’ve 30000mls, no problems.
The brake squeal is a common issue. I recently saw a video where the pads were upgraded and it eliminated the sound.
Nice review mate..as you know, big Triumph fan, since I ride the speed triple..
Thank you 🙏
Now I want one!
Lovely looking bike.
Brilliant video 👍I’m hoping to get mine in the next couple of days
Awesome, congratulations and enjoy 🥳

You know this video is from South Africa, not the UK? I agree though, that the guy makes a dodgy pass early on, as he joins the motorway
beautiful machine!
Thx for your Video.
I love mine!
nice review ma china, loved to see the streets of joburg again on a good bike, you got a sub from for sure
🤣😜👌 thanx

Great review, very enjoyable and informative. You have a new sub.
Apart when we meet them on rugby fields I like South Africans. Glad to see you enjoying the Beaut.
😜🥳🥳🤣👍🏻

So did you get the 900, they say its not built as good as the 1200 with dual discs and great engine!
@@pontypete7357 The 900 is a more refined engine with more precise fueling. Also lighter and noticeably nimbler.
Now I want one too great review thanks
Thank you so much 🙏
I love mine, but am tempted to put clip-on handlebars on, , and upgrade rear suspension
Will wait for a couple of months though
Thanks for vid
Better off buying the Thruxton in that case
Great review, thank you. A like and sub to you channel.
Thank you so much 🙏👍🏻
bloody hell you are a lane splitting god LOL
🤣🤣 thank you
Definately some potential for motocycle fail videos 😉
Motorists seem awfully well behaved in SA! If I tried to lane split at that speed in the UK I'd last about 10 minutes!
Haha, it works well here in SA 💪🙏
Bloody ded right 👍
Wow, I wouldn't dare to split lanes the way you do. I'm Still a novice, but here in Canada it's not allowed anyway
Here is SA it is legal and after 35 years of doing it, it becomes second nature

Is that a squeaky front brake I can here ??
What RPM are you at when you’re doing 100 kmph in 6th gear ?
i agree 🤟😁
I like how efficient your riding style is. You are fast, but not in a hurry. How long have you been riding?
Thank you for this compliment 🙏
Since 1986
Needs cruse control.
Good review, but you trust the other drivers too much
Not Stylemas...!
