Beautiful fish gd result, but maybe I would of had everything ready at bottom and kept fish down there , oxygen levels are low through summer ,and resting it for 30 secs in shallow stagnant water won't achieve much
Not trying to put downer on it ,but state of our rivers I'd of had it resting further out ,and for atleast five times longer
In my early days did same with barbel ,and it nearly died when returned, luckily I went in got it ,learnt my lesson, no record of catch is worth the potential loss m8

The river hull is free and any one can fish the river with a uk fishing license, I have been fishing the river for 5 years and taken me 2 year to learn how to catch them

@@alanrichardson7790 hi mate yes mainline is 20lb mono with a 1metre hook length of 10lb with a size 12 hook 👌🏻 hope this helps

We all been there when we catch a lump for the venue ,adrenilin ,excitement take over , you could tell you were thinking right way as mentioning resting fish , but iv been there twenty seconds in edge of river not resting a big whiskers like that , need to be in some flow and left 5 mins I'd say .
Reffer back to when I did similar thing and watched a barbel go belly up ,luckily got it ,and held it fifteen mins upright in flow and swam off , they will go back ok or seem top but they knackered m8 they fight so hard and I think as anglers there's probs more fatalities than we realise , but if we handle them right nearly all will go back strong
I mainly fish trent these days and unless huge they never leave the river ,gorgeous barbel from what looks like a small river 👍

Less than 7 hand widths in length. All mens hands are within a couple of mm, the same width btw! Trent barbel are heavy for their length. A 12lb trent barbel is 9 hand widths or more long. Unless you are severely deformed, that fish is not 12lb.

the Trent they catch them over 16 lb but for river hull this 1 is close to the river record

I'm agreeing with all said this wasn't good fish care , but people listen better when people arnt having a go , and the weight don't matter all fish should be treat carefully
But advise and support not beneficial having a pop ,someone preaches most switch off
