- Restored documentary about early Moon rover development by General Motors Defence Research Laboratories. These rovers were initially intended as part of Lunar Surveyor missions, but research eventually shifted to the Apollo Lunar Rover.
The original colors were extremely faded. Here they were balanced for neutral tones. AI upscale (Topaz AI) was used to resample the film to HD resolution. While it works in most cases, some artifacts are present in some sequences.
Sound and image cleanup, conversion to original 24 fps frame rate, geometry correction and AI upscale and color restoration by RetroSpace HD.

Grumman and Northrop, in the fall of 1962, began to design lunar pressurized-cabin vehicles, with electric motors for each wheel. At about this same time, Bendix and Boeing started their own internal studies on lunar transportation systems. Mieczysław Bekker, now with General Motors Defense Research Laboratories at Santa Barbara, California, was completing a study for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory on a small, uncrewed lunar roving vehicle for the Surveyor program. Ferenc Pavlics, originally from Hungary, used a wire-mesh design for "resilient wheels," a design that would be followed in future small rovers.

Fantastic thanks!
Robotics hit different in the 60s
Wow this was really early on in the program. Interesting to see what their initial thoughts were on a LRV
First, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Second, I've found it very interesting to see that if people want to move around the moon and other planets that a roving vehicle is essential to go from point A to point B more efficiently than on foot.
Rovers my favourite topic
hiya!-stunning vlog,
😀👍
Merry Christmas Retro Space HD . Your uploads are a much appreciated reference . I watched an Apollo 15 documentary the other evening and was very interested in the TV coverage of them removing the rover from the lem and the issues they had with it just being front wheel driven . Do you know the reasons why Apollo 16 and 17 rover doesn't seem to have any tv coverage of it being removed from the LEM? I made an alternative video in an attempt to explain the trackless rover photos and a question that was fired at Apollo 11 . Cheers. ruclips.net/video/p_UpXjjWt-o/видео.htmlsi=oirCZNkzT6go16Vi
If you pay attention you may notice the gap between the cable and the antenna stalk has something wrong and the astronaut and his shadow disappear as he goes from right to left behind it . ruclips.net/video/oJp4XRavA4U/видео.htmlsi=GgaVGYEQa_Y1Oiq7
