  • Here’s a walk-through of how I embroider a California Poppy onto a hat.
I am using a size 5 needle and 2 strands of floss throughout this video.
To complete this project you will need the following stitches: Satin Stitch, French Knots, Back Stitch & Fishbone Stitch

I'm watching your videos for the first time and I really like seeing clearly all the intermediary steps :) thank you!

I just finished doing this design on the pocket of a t-shirt and just wanted to say thank you for the video! It was easy to follow, and as my first time doing an embroidery project, I think my poppy turned out quite nice :)

I’m just starting out any advice? What should I start with first? I love watching your videos!

That's awesome! I would suggest starting out with fabric in a hoop as opposed to a hat. When I first started I drew a little design and then just went for it without really knowing formal stitches just to get a feel for it. Think of it as drawing with floss.

Do you do anything to finish the inside of the hat? I've been wanting to embroider a cap for a while and was wondering if I should just leave the stitches exposed on the inside..

Autumn Fetridge hey there! I leave them exposed on the inside and tie very close knots after I finish with each length of floss. It does not interfere with wear at all and as long as you tie good knots you shouldn’t have any issue with anything coming loose.

Hi! :) when you say 2 strands, do you mean 2 (out of the 6) doubled, totalling 4? Or do you mean 2 complete strands of 6, totalling 12?
I love your videos, they make me want to keep embroidering and learning
