I think it is so important to "keep your eyes on your own paper" in anything that you do, because if I do things for the sake of competing with another person, then, I just become a watered down version of my competitor. I don't want that. I want to be the best version of myself that I can be.

"The public is smarter than you". Thank you for the humility. It's really easy to get wrapped up in your own creative process and think that the audience just doesn't get it. The truth might be that you haven't refined enough, that you're lyrics don't hit home, or that it's just not the right time for that song. If you don't maintain humility then you'll never improve.

Evan - I just want to thank you. I've been watching your RUclips videos for a long time now, and this one, I keep coming back to. As a full-time musician, I have achieved the seemingly 'impossible' by being fully independent and making a lucrative full time career for myself as a performer with no management or even representation. I treat music as a completely entrepreneurial endeavor...I'd rather make my own path by my own definition of quality, than to work for someone else who carves the way for me and dips in my pocket at every turn.
For the last year or so, I've felt like I plateaued, and I have this burning feeling that I am just at the cusp of taking it up another level. In my business this is confusing territory, but your videos, especially this one, I think are getting me closer to figuring out how (and why) to do exactly that. So thank you for this.

However, freinds are not encouraging me and perhaps i don't sound nice. but something within me believes me. and i believe i have a talent . I started to support Ed Sheeran, just because of his character four years ago. Then I started to listen to his music. Now he is my very fave singer and I really am a huge fan of him. No matter what may happen to him or no matter what media may say about him, I am always that supportive and try to make more people be a fan of him. This has become a habit and a part of me now.
And of course you have to be a great musician.

I’m not a successful singer yet but my biggest dream is to be one. I kinda have my rules here (I don’t know if they are helpful or not, I didn’t make it yet but...):
1. Know what you want. When you know exactly what you actually want to do and when you know deep down that’s all you want do no one can stop you from reaching it
2. Make what music you like. I mean I know that Hip hop was the biggest chart topping genre this year but I don’t wanna do hip hop. It’s not that I don’t like it. It’s just that it doesn’t feel like myself. I don’t see myself doing that.
3. Keep the eyes on the prize. Always have that image of yourself when you made it
4. Be a nice person. I think it’s obviously
5. Don’t listen to people that try to bring you down. Plus remember that sometimes people who say you won’t do it it’s not because they don’t want you to make it it’s simply because they are afraid you’ll fail
6. Take risks
7. Know that you are good enough for making it.
8. Be the best version of yourself and always keep improving. Remember Ed Sheeran couldn’t sing
9. Learn from mistakes and failure
10. Don’t believe in ILLUMIBULSHIT. It’s honestly the most shitty theory that stops people from achieving success because they make them be afraid

As I’m writing this, or typing? Im currently sitting at 20 years of age.
September 12, 2019.
I’ve left home to pursue music. Living in hotels, playing small gigs just so I’m able to have a roof over my head, playing on the streets, doing anything to make my dream come true.
I, just like many of you, love music so much. And the feeling I get when I play....is indescribable. I put “define your expectations” because sometimes it takes hardships to become successful. Being homeless, really anything to get where you want to be has to be done. Sure I could be in college- working a conventional job just to get by, but I don’t want that. I want to change lives and impact people on such a level that I can’t put it into words. Music fulfills me- it completes me. Having high expectations does MAKE a difference.
Gotta keep kicking your legs in that water even if you can’t swim well because eventually you’ll learn that rhythm and movement and you’ll perfect it.
May be late to the party with this one but I think it’s important to lift others up. y’all remember my name

I do appreciate your comment. They say Jimi Hendrix was like that. He loved music so much that he used to play a broom and a string on a pole before he owned a proper guitar. He also was reported to live with different people at their houses, with girlfriends and being homeless sleeping in alleyways and abandon construction sites.It seemed he tried to keep himself free and loose from ties and hangups that would keep him from is musical goals. But by doing so, just doing what he does, he was discovered. He was extremely lucky. The old jazz guys used to say, "How do you get out of Harlem, you get a white man to carry you out." But those days are gone and so is that music industry. Today you need a little bit more than sticktoittiveness to get to the next level. But while you are younger go ahead and grind it out and keep your true motivation.

Many people are artists and fame does not make you a great artist! Make your art for the sake of making art. Don't pander to popularity. Give it a go in your own way, it could be a lose lose situation (like many life choices) but you had the guts to try something different. Being unique is best, even if you loose. Thankfully you don't need to be in that fame spotlight to be a musician. It can keep you sane too in dark times and you can make great friendships along the way which is key.

OPINION #1----How do you explain the success of taylor swift? The money earned from her tours, videos, the records she broke, and she is signed to a major label. Did she had to suffer from the things the major labels do like loans, Burden, unequal royalties?

2)PERFORM ON AWARD SHOWS
3)GET RECOGNISED AT AWARD SHOWS
4)EARN RESPECTIVE ROYALITIES
give or take- in this scenario, what should the musician do?

Today before I seen this video I literally did what Taylor Swift said about writing down a line that inspired her. I was driving and I just came up with two lines and I sang it with a little melody. Well that inspiration wasn’t going away and as soon as I got home went to my room and I found an instrumental on RUclips and I wrote an entire song based off of those two lines I wrote . It’s one of my best songs this writing cycle .
