A perfect balanced helicopter will still vibrate. That is why quadcopters work better for video. Those blades changing pitch every turn with cyclic inputs will shake full size helicopters also. The old saying is full filled that how a helicopter flys is: It creates so much vibration the ground rejects it. lol
At first I said the camera mount when it was first shown wasn't good as it moved way to much when touched and I was right. But I still believe the last little bit of Vibration is probably due to having the cockpit windows removed as now the down draft from the blades blows into the cockpit instead of flowing around it. Learned from flying in a open cockpit (no doors) compared to all enclosed heli cockpit in real life.
Nice video. My first heli fpv flight was 15 years ago flying in Ikarus jetranger on 36mhz and the fpv gear was 2.4ghz. fun times. Still enjoy the fpv stuff today.
RC helis have always been troublesome to FPV, due to the inherent vibrations. I have to admit though I did not expect the 'answer' to be a 'solid' camera mount - I expected you would wind up mounting the camera via small rubber isolators - as used on old quad gimbal camers mounts - how wrong I was!!
yup few simple mods. lower the head speed by smaller pinion, (or lower kv motor) Asymmetrical Rotor Blades gives huge flight time improvements. you can go much deeper but then it will cost a lot more lol 30 min easy flight time when done right
@@Dragon69FlyTeamdamn thats some pretty impressive flight time coming from an fpv drone with 3-7mins basically depending on how fast youre flying and using full throttle. Ive always been interested in trying an rc heli but they either seem to be cheap one's or the nice expensive ones and i just dont know anything about them also in general. I fly fixed wing some with fpv and fpv drones, but never a Heli. I would love to pick up one of those smaller ones they have now that actually seem to be hobby grade by horizon i think and theyre also not crazy expensiveas like a first one to try it out. Any recommendations for something decent for like $100-200, or is that not going to happen?
@@mxracingunlimitedltd7784I like the eachine e160 (i bought it on banggood ) its cheap in repairs, so far i onley stripped the main gear and it was a easy 2$ fix. if i would crash my scale birds it would be a 2000$ and up cost mostley ending in a totall loss lol. when taking off in beginner mode the eachine 160 flys like youre drone. then you can slowly progress and turn off assist to progress full heli controll. it can do all what it bigger brothers can do 3d etc. its super fast even faster than my racing drones if i want. great platform to learn. its onley weakspot is its main gear. if you fly above tall grass it should be all fine. it doesnt like lamp posts dont ask me why lol. it does have similar flight times like youre drone. you can lower the headspead for longer flights but you will loose the nimbleness to do 3d (witch isnt my style) in fast forward flight it starts to behave like a plane. youre pitch (up down) translate in elevator like a plane. in slow flight it behaves like a drone. im sure you will master it fast becouse you fly both plane and drone's. When you fully master the this little bird, you can fly all helis! even the big gassers/ turbines. the bigger the heli the easyer they fly! Onley from 500size and up, they crash like real helis to. (totall loss) this little heli is also have a brushless tail motor, so no worries of wearing out the tailmotor and loose controll. most cheap helis in this class dont have brushless rear motor and those brushedmotors wear out fast wich turn out in a crash you dont see coming. also in normal forward flight you will fly longer than hoovering. youre main rotor will behave more like a wing. i could go on and on but i stop now. Have fun with whatever heli you can get. just try to get a double brushless motoer if you go small and go 6ch (variable pitch) avoid fixed pitch so its easyer to fly in windy conditions.
Why is it so that helis fly longer? I thought that all those sophisticated linkages and the swash plate eat away the efficiency, as oppose to a drone where props attached directly to motor shafts.
First things first you did good putting the airwolf theme in! Secondly, Im' thinking of doing this with a NITRO helicopter using a Motionsic BAG 2-axis headtracking gimbal. I previously flew that setup on a nitro powered biplane until that bipe ate shit for unrelated reasons. The BAG eats vibes like candy.
If move it forward then would lose the context of the cockpit and giving the impression in a helo cockpit. I like how you can see the tips of the blades as well. All adds to the immersive experience. Not sure what you mean by adding board behind the camera? For what reason?
If windows are cut out and you are moving it stays cool enough but adding a fan would be no bad thing. Important that the VTX is as far from the FC as possible to minimise interference.
@@EssentialRC cool. I just installed it the same as you did. Of course glued not Velcro hahha. When powering on the Heli with VTX it won’t get hot instantly will it? I’m thinking I’ll still add a fan regardless
@@THEMIGHTYCB Good decision. Only factor is additional weight but these small fans and very light so should not affect CG. Advise do a range test to ensure VTX not interfering with FC.
This has to be the first video I watched where I don't see the word AMAZON in the Show more. How nice! I'm sure your next video will show working gauges. Just kidding. Your video would be even better if you could find the AIRWOLF movie/TV show theme music. Well done, chaps. Now, go treat yourself to some good Zymurgyot. BING says that's British slang for ale.
Nice, that cockpit view! I'm still learning on an XK110s, too small to mount a decent camera on. I think it might actually be easier flying FPV because you don't have the orientation problem. Would be good to have a rotating camera though so you can look to the side as well. Future project?
Have done head tracked FPV on several other projects. Yes...easy to do as long as the RC heli/plane can take the weight of the additional panning servo where you need it.
Sense you have converted it to the AirWolf have you flown it in the inverted mode? If you have? How did it go? How did it fly and how well did it do in the transitions back and forth between right side up and inverted and back?
@@EssentialRC nice. I tested my new dual sky battery and made it to almost 11 minutes then RTH activated. Was so impressed haha. My 3S doesn’t even allow RTH to activate as it believe it might be too low voltage it just drops lol.
@@THEMIGHTYCB Hmm thats verry short flight time... my 450 scale heli (verry old build still uses a old style flybar) manage 15 min of flight time on a 3000 mh 3s! Good to hear from you Darren Thomas is hello again and friends and family are all good here now and we are all good thanks again

🤣That record-scratch was spot-on! I was in disbelief that you were enduring that horrendous view.
Awesome. Love airwolf. That music brings me back.
No fake volcano to fly out of? Lol AWESOME LOVE FPV COCK PIT VIEWS - more of this pleasw
Ah the music takes me back❤
Good flight and unique perspective from the cockpit.

I winced when you were showing the internal set up Dom, the raggedy way the camera flopped about on the Velcro! Well sussed, eventually😉
Yeah...bit amateur ish wasn't it 😆
softmount the camera in a tpu printed part buddy, or on rubbers
Helis can fly so much longer than quads, its a shame they got pushed aside as quads got more popular. Would love to see more FPV builds with them.

There is one idea maybe move the camera closer to the front of the cockpit and Maybe put like a board behind the camera

Oh sry I didn’t know, the board was so maybe it would dampen the vibrations a bit but idk I’m not very good at this stuff lol 😂
I don't think it will get any better than that last flight. Just need to do some longer more interesting flights now.
If you tilt the camera up a tad you can maintain forward flight without feeling like you're diving into the ground.
problem was the camera being held down with velcro
Maybe a second camera looking down, to spot helipad? Or full VR FPV.
What did you do with the windows? The kit from Flywing appears to have windows covered from the inside with fiberglass....
Cut them out
I'm in love! Lol😂
Did the VTX get hot at all? Is it worth adding a fan to blow onto it?

Amazing! You guys think it can work with a DJI gimbal FPV camera ? (the one that turns as you look around)
I think so!

Yes. Cut out with a dremel and just left them open. Works great 👍
